With the current cold snap and impending group ride.
Been thinking about get some heated grips, so far these oxford grips look ok as you can put the on  in a few minutes just wrap around the grip when needed, once the initial wiring has been fitted.
and from doing a few searches a good safety + ,staying warm.

Any one else used or tried these type of grips?

And some may say harden the phuck up but i called 1800 101020.

Seriously, I couldn't give a shit if you use heated grips (not very blingy though). One of the guys that Jukie was talking to in the NFI queue said he uses them ... and loves them.

He said he was copping a lot of stick off his mates until he arrived at 'the Island' with nice warm hands in summer gloves and they were all complaining ... and then asking where to get them and how to install [laugh]

Rob, I installed heated grips a week before taking the DRZ400E to last year's Alpine Rally. For those who don't know, the Alpine Rally is held on the June long weekend each year down in the snowies. They were the best thing I've ever bought for a bike, bar none.  People can call you a girl, but if your hands are warm, their insults will be water off a duck's back.

I don't like the look of the ones you've chosen though - they look a little thick and you may have trouble fitting them under normal grips.

Super easy to install, and also cheap. 2 speeds - warm, and hot.

On the ride back from the Snowies last year we went through some rain, and my gloves had steam coming off them!  I love 'em.  [bow_down]  [bow_down]  [bow_down]

Do they do them with tassels?

i rode to Oberon on Thursday last week and froze my lanky fingers off!

all the way home i was thinking where i could buy and wire up hand grips for the rest of the trip home...

Smart move Rob. Friends of ours have them on their bikes and they are awesome and not too hard to install.
I went for a ride with these guys on Saturday. They were as warm as toast and I froze my fingers (and other bits) off. I am seriously considering a set for myself. Good luck with the  installation, you shouldn't have too many dramas.  [thumbsup]

Next ride I expect a nice warm cuddle with those warm hands ! LOL.

Rob.........I also have a Harley with heated grips.......one problem i guarantee you will incurr. ........certain so called "mates" will get great delight in turning the buggers onto high in the middle of summer.......by the time you realise and turn them off its too late....your hands keep the heat in for around an hour........you soon learn to check the buggers every time you hop on.....i am already thinking of putting them on my S4R......i just have to have the balls to walk into D'Moto with a good excuse for needing them......i already cop a lot of flack about my Dyna......known to them as a "combine harvester".....haha.......but it serves a purpose...try pillioning on a monster for a distance......and don't let it get you down if someone mentions "middle age soft cock syndrome" mate........they'r just jealous........of the heated grips i mean.......... You will  also need a small 15amp ,12v relay, some 10amp wire , 10amp inline fuse ,cable terminals, cable ties, elecee tape.
about another $30.
I  allready had the bits. [thumbsup]

Fitting the heater pads is the easy bit.
the wiring and fitting the switch a bit time consuming to make it all neat.
Not much room to squeeze it all in,with out stuffing up the delicate Ducati wiring. [roll]  [drink]

Now for the confession: the finer points of electrics confuse me.  When I wired these into the Suzuki, I just tapped into one of the wires leading from the ignition (the one that was only on when the key was on). I didn't use relays...

It would be very helpful if you described how you wired this up - where did the relay go, what wires you tapped into, etc. Perhaps a diagram or pics?

If I ever do put heated grips on a Ducati, I'd want to do it right!

I'm a qualified electrickerer, so I can answer that.

The reason for the relay is to reduce the current through the ignition switch.  If you just put the extra load (whether that's high power lights, or girly heated grips or whatever) on the output of the ignition switch, you risk overloading it and turning it into a puddle of expensive molten plastic.

By using a relay, you keep the extra load on the ignition switch down to just that needed to energise the relay coil.  The main power for your girly grips comes directly from the battery (via a suitable fuse, of course), so no expensive ducati electrics get fried.

85 is earth
86 is battery positive
30 is switching wire
87 is output to girly grips or what ever you are turning on (IE Jukie ??)

Can recommend the Vince Strang Grip Heaters...have used them on my past dirt bikes and work a treat...cold fingers = lack of control when using clutch and brake and warm fingers when riding is bliss  [moto]

Surely Brian, you would only get caught once, then you would pull the fuse out and then have a bit of a laugh at your mates 'cos they think your grips are on but you know that you have out-smarted them.
