so, if a gallon equals almost 8.5 pounds, then 5 gallons is just about 45 pounds.
now, enough with the easy math. someone tell me how much a 5 gallon bucket (joint compound type if it matters to you) filled with crushed plaster (no lathe...that went straight out the window) tips the scale at.
now multiply that amount (5 gallon bucket x how heavy it is) by 16
i am curious how many lbs of plaster i lugged down stairs today. :P
in my simple math world i figure that the dry plaster has a similar weight to the wet joint compound (see above regarding 5 gallon joint compound buckets,) so 16x45= 720#
yeah, i know, not that big a deal...but this was the smallest of three rooms that i have done this to in the last 3 weeks.

That's a lot of calculations to do just to figure out you're out of shape :-*
Meh... gallons... pounds... ouzos... pebbles... foot/pounds.... stones.... Why worry? Since none of those units make any sense, just keep carrying until you're absolutely buggered, then carry + one more and you can create a new measurment called the Hermia. Be just as logical as any other imperial measurement ;).
Oh and in case you need to convert into metric, 1 Hermia x your own weight / 2.75 = 1.0 Killer-gram ;D
yes the metric or imperial Hermia...not to be confused with its side consequence the herNia
My guess is that you are weaker than you think you are as the dry stuff is probably lighter being less dense.
So each bucket only weighed 2.5 lbs and you are way out of shape.
hermia?

hermia?
Yes. With an "M".
One hermia is the imperial measurement describing the amount a Herm can carry until a hernia is sustained.

Zactly ;D.
These wacko non-metric measurments are so weird even y'all who persist with 'em cant agree how big 'em really are [laugh].

I have British Standard wrenches and sockets...they fit, but the sizing is slightly different.
bring it. [laugh]
i was going to give a serious answer, but i decided not to geek out on this once and remind you that the lbs/gal is for pure water. if there's other stuff dissolved in it the amt goes up. therefore a 5 gal bucket of joint compound and water would be very different.
but i decided not to do that. esp since mrI didnt' go that direction.
Screw that, I do all my calculations in firkins

Thank you lord... [bang]
Piss in the pail first. When mixed with construction materials, piss is lighter than air and will make the bucket lighter.

i would have liked a serious answer...
as it is, i guess i dragged about 80 gallons of old horse hair plaster down the stairs yesterday.
AHA!
i found it. a dry gallon is 48.5 Lbs
so x 16 buckets = 776 Lbs
and yeah, i am way out of shape these days. you should have seen me humping the gypsum board (two at a time) back up the stairs last week....talk about comedy :P
