Title: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: ducatiz on August 03, 2010, 05:27:52 AM You have $10,000 to build your dream bike.
Post links to everything you purchase. Yes, just $10,000. Install labor is free, but paint, fabrication, engine work (i.e. head, crank, etc) work is not. You can buy any bike and customize it, but: 1. It must be a Ducati. 2. It can be any year or model. 3. All parts must be commercially available or custom, but you have to post a link or info about the part(s). 4. Must be either STREET or TRACK. 5. Your starting bike should be as close to stock as possible. the point is to show off what your "bike bucket" list is and what you'd do if you could. JFF = just for fun Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: ducatiz on August 03, 2010, 05:32:06 AM This is the bike I would start with:
1997 900ss CR http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290458379467 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290458379467) 10,000 - 3,999 = 6000 SIL header http://www.spareshack.com/products/230/900SS-carb-91-98-Sil-motor-Spaghetti-Style-Headers.php (http://www.spareshack.com/products/230/900SS-carb-91-98-Sil-motor-Spaghetti-Style-Headers.php) 6000- 915 = 4100 Sharkskinz mono seat ($250) plus pads ($180) plus paint (200) = $630 Raceparts rearsets ($150) HC pistons ($650) Heads ported and flowed with the SIL exhaust ($800) Nichols flywheel $450? Bucci alu clutch $500 SIL high mount CF cans $800 will finish later... :D i think 10 grand was a lot to start with.. not much of a challenge.. maybe drop it to $5K? Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Jaman on August 03, 2010, 07:03:41 AM ^^ it makes me a little sad to see a beauty like that with so few miles of enjoyment...

Of course after building the first one the second one is easier and faster to build (and will be yellow or Ducati red and with a normal fork on it...) Goal: to build something very different that is fun/unique and will get magazine coverage (already booked) for under $10K total outlay. and since ducatiz is doing 15,000 im doing $15,000 too... [evil] This is actually what im going to do with it since im on an actual $2500 budget... 1098 forks + calipers - $800 Aluminum subframe - $350 ECU Flash (guages are destroyed) - $400 FP Racing Levers - $165 Nose fairing frame- $150 Armored Bodies fairing - $650 Total $2515 Which is right where i am at as far as budget goes.... now what else would i do with the rest of my $11,685? Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: MotoCreations on August 03, 2010, 04:21:17 PM It is cool how people spend for their dream bike with budgets of under $10K (or $15K) If price was no object -- the extra Desmosedichi engine needs a custom chromoly chassis, restyled carbonfiber bodywork and a few other additions... and a slightly difference "stance/attitude adjustment" in my opinion. Can you say "DesmoDevil-sedichi"... [evil] (too bad the engine isn't actually mine) Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: ducatiz on August 03, 2010, 04:30:38 PM with budgets of under $10K (or $15K) If price was no object -- the extra Desmosedichi engine needs a custom chromoly chassis, restyled carbonfiber bodywork and a few other additions... and a slightly difference "stance/attitude adjustment" in my opinion. [evil] (too bad the engine isn't actually mine) having a limited budget makes it more interesting because people have to make choices. what's more important? or what does one THINK is more important? Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: He Man on August 04, 2010, 05:18:13 PM depends on how your economic situation looks.
I dont have a lot of money, in fact ive never been as broke as I am today. And owning a ducati doesnt help for sure. which is why i do most of my own things, so i cant justify spending $350 on rizoma levers, when FP racing levers are half the price and function the same. If you have a budget to spend, spend it on something that is worth spending on..suspension, not NCR clutch covers that are over priced [evil] if you want to drop the price down to 5k, then just delete everything i spent on shit i wouldnt buy anyway cause i cant afford it. and stic kwith 749S $800 actual mods, or really parts i have to replace because they no longer work $2500 remaining $1700 would be enough to pay for a years worth of trackday expenses + tires. Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Javamoose on August 04, 2010, 06:48:42 PM Done (http://www.ducatiusa.com/bikes/monster/796/index.do). I would be happy. [moto]
Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Travman on August 05, 2010, 04:10:08 PM I haven't priced it out, but my dream bike would something similar to this Radical Ducati.
Superbike frame S2R swingarm Air-cooled engine V-Rod headlight Custom bodywork Custom Exhaust (http://blog.radicalducati.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/imola19.jpg) I've got a hunch that it would be hard to keep it under $10K, but maybe I could do it by finding the parts cheap enough over a period of time and staying away from the high dollar stuff like the Ohlins shock. Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: ducatiz on August 06, 2010, 05:18:07 AM For 10k?
Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: ducatiz on August 06, 2010, 05:49:35 AM No. But knowing of the existence of this motorcycle precludes me from dreaming of others. I can delete the post if it doesn't fit in the thread. sac whole point is what can you do for 10 grand...not what can you go out and buy from someone else.. [beer] sac Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Triple J on August 06, 2010, 06:07:56 AM I'd start with my existing 748 trackbike since I couldn't make anything I'd consider a "dream" Ducati for $10K, unless the bike was free.
It would be track only, as any dream Ducati should be made for the track IMO. '02 748S: Free ;D (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/JJGeo/IMG_1268.jpg) Pierobon 748 F02 Frame: ~$4,500 http://www.pierobonframes.com/foto.asp?foto=pf009&nFoto=1&pag=1 (http://www.pierobonframes.com/foto.asp?foto=pf009&nFoto=1&pag=1) OZ Forged Aluminum Wheelset: ~$1,864 http://tinyurl.com/284cj3q (http://tinyurl.com/284cj3q) Aluminum Subframe: $475 http://tinyurl.com/2co39ea (http://tinyurl.com/2co39ea) Speedymoto Adj. No motor work since the 748 is fast enough for me, aspecially given the tracks within a 15 hour drive. Miller is the only one where more power would be nice, and that's only down the front straight. This should significanty lighten the bike, and also significantly improve its handling. [thumbsup] Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Spidey on August 06, 2010, 06:41:56 AM Mine is really, really boring and not the least bit custom.
Used Ducati 916 (pre-1988). Red. With full Termi system. In near stock condition and in good shape for $6-7K. Resprung/valved front+rear suspension. Open clutch cover. Aftermarket pressure plate. Depending on how the lever fits, maybe some CRG or pazzo levers. New rubber. And that's it -- my dream bike. I guess I *could* add bits here and there but that's not really part of my dream. Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: MadDuck on August 06, 2010, 06:43:59 AM Under $10K? That would have been my old 98 Monster 900 that I bought for $3500., put a ton of goodies on which would have brought it up to nearly 10K. Rode it and worked on it for 3 years and then sold for $4,000. [laugh] [laugh]
Actually for that money I think I would get some sort of 996/998 and do some good engine work to it and some suspension work. That'd probably would bust the limit right there. :( Title: Re: JFF: Dream bike challenge Post by: Travman on August 06, 2010, 08:52:02 AM For 10k? I really have no idea? Check out Theo's (Taftnomonos) 2V Superbike project. I don't know what his budget is, but I know he plans on making some money back by selling the 999R motor that he no longer needs. Maybe he will weigh in. He is saving money by just using the 999 tank and tail section instead of buying something European and expensive. I wouldn't have to start with a 999R. I could save by starting with a 749 trackbike that still had a title. I know the DS1000 motor Theo is using probably cost 3-4K. So I could use a 900 to save some money. Cool Motogadget type guages can be expensive so I'd try to use something stock. http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=37734.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=37734.0) (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/2V%20SBK/DSC_0416.jpg) |
