Title: Cheap Xenon? Post by: Bizzarrini on June 09, 2008, 01:48:34 AM Hi Guys!

Cheers! Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: Bizzarrini on June 09, 2008, 01:50:31 AM or these:

Post by: He Man on June 09, 2008, 06:43:09 AM Xenon is a gas and running an electric arc through it excites the atoms and causes it to produce light. Atleast tahts how i think it works. Those look like they are litterally blue halogen light bulbs. Plus it would be a rip off since you only need one H4. I wouldnt bother with it.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: LUKE on June 09, 2008, 09:20:12 AM I purchased something like this. I got them because they are brighter than stock and I often take back roads home. That being said they nothing more than normal bulbs with blue on the glass. True HID is on my shortlist.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: olivs on June 09, 2008, 09:59:31 AM what about these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PREMIUM-XENON-DUCATI-MONSTER-620-695-S4RS-HID-Glare_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35621QQihZ020QQitemZ300231746320QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW is it just bulb replacement or any other kind of wiring is needed? will the temperature be to high for the glass\plastic components? Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: mmakay on June 09, 2008, 10:27:04 AM True HID set-ups can be had for as little as $85. That's all I spent and the difference is night and day (pun fully intended). Blue bulbs won't help you see any better, no matter what they claim.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: RandyFloyd on June 09, 2008, 10:32:21 AM I'd go with either HID's or Sylvania Silverstar's...
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: He Man on June 09, 2008, 01:22:21 PM My biggest question is, what is the quality of the Ballast for those cheapie $85? Because ive been dying to pull the trigger on a set of 2 Bixenon ballasts+bublbs+ wire harness. ( i have duals ). The cheap ebay ones can be had for as little as 125 bucks.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: peaveybassist on June 09, 2008, 01:51:05 PM Search on DML for the HID stuff from hondatech. I got mine for $95 I think with a slim ballast and plugs to just plug'n'play with the H4 setup. Cheap and it has worked well so far. I've had it for about 4 months now. Awesome badass light output.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: knightrider on June 09, 2008, 03:03:00 PM imo never buy bulbs that have a blue coating, the coating accually cuts down on the available light output and its only for looks. hid look is just that, a look, not the performance. and you have to be careful with putting hid into a halogen housing because you will cause glare for oncoming drivers and is illegal in most states.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: northerncalguy on June 09, 2008, 03:46:18 PM Agree with others in the thread that true HID is the best option for clarity and brightness while riding at nite.
On a related note, for those that have HID & ballasts, does your lamp ever "not turn on" during at startup? I've found that I need to flick the high beam on and off after starting the engine to get the lamp to fire. I think this is somehow related to a relay, but not quite sure...I have the one from the bspec guys that I found through the Honda forums. Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Again, cheap bixenons can be had for under $60 per bulb+ballast. THe question becomes whats the quality of those chinese ballasts? Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: Heath on June 09, 2008, 05:53:54 PM PIAA Xtreme White Plus Bulb- H4 Single Pack Part #PIAA-15214 is what I run and I love it. I got it off eBay, if you look on the TOB there was a website for bulbs from Europe. Supposedly they have ones that last longer then ones we can get in the states.
Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: NAKID on June 09, 2008, 05:55:37 PM I'd go with either HID's or Sylvania Silverstar's... I have a Silverstar and I like the additional output. Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: Drunken Monkey on June 10, 2008, 07:35:26 AM A few manufacturers make make conventional bubs with xenon vs the usual inert gas they use. I call these bulbs HID-lite (no pun intended) and they do give a slight boost to the light (but not much)
Not really worth it, IMHO. So +1 on the Silverstars if you're looking to save money (I use one and it's great). Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Not very bright at night since they have a blue tint, but they are cool in the day time. I have a matching running light with a slightly more blue tint. Check out my Flickr page for the running lights. If you want a pic of the lights on, I can snap one for you and post it on my page. I had these on my R1 for 2 years and now on my S4RS. Not sure if we use H7, I forgot but you get the point... Good luck brother. Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: NAKID on June 12, 2008, 05:47:55 PM Stock Monster headlight is an H4

Wow, those look hella cool!! Light output might be an issue for me at night time though (had a near-miss twice because a cager didn't notice me >:(), and they seem quite expensive considering an "el cheapo" full HID setup can be bought for about the same price. How is the high beam? Could you also post some pics of those? Thanx a bunch for the info and pics! p.s. veeeeeery nice bike by the way!!! What kinda fork is that? Ohlins? Or did you anodize it? Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: Goldeneye on June 14, 2008, 06:39:23 PM Okay here goes, I've been out of the business for a while but this is what I think....
If you are looking at H4 bulbs. You can get the standard Halogen. Halogen is the gas that is inside the glass. Or, get the same bulb filled with Xenon gas. Because of the differences in the gasses the Xenon bulb will be brighter and whiter... If you are talking H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge) The light is produced from and arc (think arc welder) not from electricity passing through a wire and making it glow. That's why you need a ballast. The ballast temporarily raises the voltage very high to start the arc. After the arc is established the voltage drops.. So, just because you see Xenon does not automatically mean H.I.D. Now, to confuse things. A standard H4 bulb will use 55 watts low beam and 60 watts high beam (Those are the numbers I'm not 100% sure on) You can get replacement (Off-road only of course) bulbs that have an 80 watt high beam, some even 100watt. So bottom line, check what you are getting. Don't believe the hipe. Those blue coated bulbs, in my opinion, are gonna be losing light compared to the same bulb with no coating. Confused enough?? I am. By the by, let me know how the less expensive H.I.D. stuff works, that would be my preference. Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: He Man on June 14, 2008, 07:40:24 PM I am about to drop $100 bones on a cheapie bi xenon kit. The problem is, do i really need the bixenon? The only difference is the Highbeam featuere is retained,(of course its only the position of the bulb, or a sheild that moves and allows more light to exit). I ride with my high beams on all the time. However i do shut it of if i pull up behind a sedan/coupe full of people, that and i live in NYC where cops give people a hard time for no reason.
The price difffernece on the cheapie kits is $40 bucks. $63 for the HID and $103 for the HID Bixenon. I have duals so i will attempt to install both, however i do not think i ahve the place for 2 HID ballasts, i might jsut end up having 1 xenon to run with the high beam and single H4 halogen for the low beam. So what do you guys think? Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: mmakay on June 14, 2008, 07:55:00 PM Beware. Bi-zenon kits have a much larger bulb assembly. The actuator that moves the shield is behind the reflector, so you may not be able to use it without altering the headlight bucket. No doubt they are all a little different, so YMMV.

Post by: He Man on June 16, 2008, 05:05:31 PM Did you notice the extremely low price and the ridiculous shipping charge! $55 bux to ship from California... yea, thats how they make hte money. ebay charges a fee based on the final sale price, not including shipping. And if a customer wants to return it, they can still turnaround a profit. which is why im very picky with making this order, ive sent emails to all my prospective purchases so if shit hits the fan. Im going to get my money back via paypal (buyer bias) Now as far as pods go, i want them, however, i dont feel like going through fueling issues since my S2R1k has been giving me some surging problems. 87 octane summer heat, and she might hang at 2,000rpms every once in a while, or 3,000 with the clutch pulled in. once i drop to neutral and blip, she'll be fine. So far its a little bit of surging, something wrong with not being able to start in gear, clutch pulled in (i shut hte bike of at lights), and a nasty oil leak on the valve covers, plus the worn valve guide issues. Title: Re: Cheap Xenon? Post by: NAKID on June 16, 2008, 05:41:33 PM I put 89 in mine. Seems to like that better that either 87 or 91...
