Three weeks now it is sitting in the shop waiting for a replacement gas tank! Call today and they tell me it is on back order from Italy and there is nothing they can do. Ducati, you can kiss my hairy #@^^%$!!!! Any ideas of where I might scrounge one up? Anyone higher up I can call and at least vent my frustration? Thanks at least for letting me vent here!

Also, what kind of tank are you looking for, and what's the problem with the one you've got now?

2009 696 Monster. Tank warped where the fuel pump connects to the tank. Gas just leaks out. Can't be sealed so I need a new tank. It is still under warranty and is back ordered indefinitely from Italy. I just saw one on ebay for $300. I am going to call my dealer and see if they will just buy that one and install it.

I would assume Ducati is obligated to replace the tank with a new one as they have been doing with the S*R bikes?
If not I am going to be damn pissed when this inevitably happens to my bike which is now out of warranty.

Oh yes they were quite happy to tell me it would be replaced under warranty. They just can't tell me when.
On a 696?

Maybe tomorrow, or perhaps....never.
I was riding last weekend and at one light i had to stop quickly. next thing i notice is that gas has leaked out of the top of the tank from the cap. now i had just filled up, to the recommended fill area. is this normal? or should i be concerned about a bad seal???
sorry for the thread jack...

Gas moves in the tank, when full it's more prone to overflow. There are built in overflow/vapor drains that should remove most of the overflown fuel. May have been just a bit more than they drains could handle. No worries.. unless it's a common occurrence.

No point in calling and screaming at anyone.... Ducati is taking care of the problem ( by replacing..... tooo bad it'll be temporary) and a small builder from Italy is what you have to keep in mind when getting some parts. I'm on my 3rd Gas tank ( its on it's way, when it get here....who knows). I understand your frustration..... i'm just used to the tank issue.
Theres a HUGE Gas Tank Thread ....... check it out
Best of luck on getting your tank quickly [beer]
My tank was ordered, delivered and installed in a little over a week for a 620.
Granted, the shop forgot about me for 4 months before placing the order, but I've been busy and not riding anyway.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the gas tank issue was resolved on the 696 (and newer models)?

Apparently not on mine. Also mine is not an expansion issue, but a warped tank where the fuel pump connects so it can't get a leak proof seal. I have had the bike for 16 months prior to the fuel tank leaking.

I'd suggest warping and expansion are not unrelated.

Possibly related to excess heat?
yeah could be more heat related as the fuel pump sits right over the exhaust cross over.
that heat shield there covering the tank might need some insulation (foil) on the outside/inside to deflect more heat.
Update on my 696 tank. On Monday I get this email from DNA. I am posting the message in full for anyone that wants to use the phone numbers or email address. So 8 weeks after my bike goes in they finally respond to my email requests for help. Just called the dealer who tells me the tank is on my bike and ready to go. Keep in mind they didn't call me, I had to call them.
