Title: The Giants
Post by: MendoDave on November 01, 2010, 09:27:37 PM
So who of you is the least bit stoked that the Giants won the world series? I haven't heard a peep from you peeps that you even watched it.
Having just come from a month long stay in Texas, twistin by the pool, I was quite delighted to see the Texas fans fret and worry about the games, especially after the first two where 40,000 fans shouted down at Texas from Pac Bel Park.

I think that destroyed their confidence a little.

Been watching every game.  We even start it up at work and listen to it.  It's pretty cool stuff, but it's not motorcycles... I dunno...it just didn't occur to me.

if any of the giants were ducati owners ... perhaps i would show an interest.

I've watched the Giants lose 2 world series...I wasn't going to get into it until they won. And now that they won, I realize how empty professional sports "victories" really are. And I actually went to Game 2 :)

Congrats to the Giants!!!!!!!!!  Watched every game. That was awesome and long coming.  Could've been more fun winning at home, but the important thing was to "just win baby."

Ciao!

I bleed blue, I was raised that way. Not that I was rooting for the giants, but I wasn't rooting against them.
When I attend games we usually go with a diverse group and the heckling isn't too bad.
But alas I can no longer say "by the way when was the last time you won the big one" to silence the masses.

I second the Yankees sucking it.  I despise the Yankees.  Jeeter can bite me.

No yankage luving here, that blue is for Dodgerness. I find yank blue only a couple shades removed from black.

Oh wow, Yankee haters?  Really?  That's about as novel as a GSXR750.  I understand why you all hate the Yankees; we have more fans and a better front office which leads to having more money to spend on players than any other team.  We have more home attendance and more road attendance than any other team in baseball or any other American sport for that matter.  So while you all hate the Yankees, you all pay to see them when they come to your city to play (and more often than not beat) your worse managed, worse attended, less fan based hometown team.  In case you can't tell, I was born and raised in New York.

Yes, the Yankees didn't win the World Series this year - as you know and I'm sure are about to point out - they were handily beaten by the Rangers which the Giants handily beat.  They'll be in the playoffs next year just as they've been for 14 of the last 15.

Having said that, I've lived in the Bay Area for 7 years so hats off to the Giants.  They played well and this win was huge for this town - first Bay Area championship in 15 years.   The fans at AT&T are some of the most electric I've ever seen and this team is exciting to watch.

And finally, if it weren't for me moving to the Bay Area I would never have started riding let alone buying a Ducati.  S2RMassive out.

Still hate the Yankees.  And Red Sox fans, too.

lived in NYC for 3 years, got to go to Yankee stadium many times, and invariably, no matter who the Yankme's were playing, I would always see at least 2 or 3 idiots in their Red Sox jerseys, drunk off their asses, taunting Yankee fans...
[bang]

that being said, it was also kinda great to see Manhattan semi-suicidal for a week or so in '04.  ;D

2004 was not good.  1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009 were way better.

White with Navy blue pinstripes would look great on your 748 MB.

Everything looks good on the 748.  It's a 748.  Still hate the Yankees.

I still don't get baseball.  I mean, I'm happy for the home team and all.  And folks seem geuinely moved and excited with the championship.  But since baseball is teh suck, I'm beginning to suspect it's cuz they're all completely daft.  And not a "hey, craziness is HAWT, what are you doin' later" kinda daftness.  More like a "I suffer from head trauma and eat glue" kinda daft.

That said, I approve of hating the Yankess.  Only cuz it annoys the hell outta Yankees fan, who take this shit way too seriously.  I don't feel the same way about the Red Sox.  We should all pity those guys -- I mean, those poor folks have to live with other Bostonians.  [cheeky]

Baseball is the perfect game, Spidey. It combines strategy, tactics, athleticism and crazy luck. Add to that centuries of tradition, and you got yourself a real pastime. The rewards to those in-the-know fans are huge, and the cost to become one of the in-the-know is low - just some time watching the game and discussing it over beers and hot dogs with someone in the know. Heck, you can even just listen to the tv/radio announcers, and you will catch on pretty quickly.

My wife and I bought season tickets to the Giants when we moved here because we knew almost no one in the city, and we figured it would be a fun thing to do with our then 18 month-old daughter. What really cemented our love for the team was watching almost every game of the 2006 season while caring for our new baby. The pace of televised baseball is perfect for dealing with the needs of 0-4 month old baby.

I have been lucky enough to witness  my favorite football team play and win a Superbowl and to witness my favorite rider win a MotoGP event, and those events were truly awesome. I went to Game 2, and it blew those events away. And, so far I have never witnessed or felt the pure joy like I saw and felt in North Beach on Monday night.

Yankees suck!
Dodgers swallow!
Go Giants!

That's a good point...reflecting on the things I got to see in person this year:
1) Laguna Seca GP
2) Misano GP
3) World Series Game 2

Pretty cool, really. We live in a great place.

This article sums up baseball for me.  3-4 hour game with 14 minutes of anything going on.

I did watch a couple of the series games in my neighborhood bar and had loads of fun.  But I don't need much of an excuse to go out drinking.   [drink]

I don't get all the griping about watching baseball.  If you don't like it, don't watch it.  There's lots of stuff that I don't like on TV and you don't see me posting up about it.   I despise basketball and I've yet to post up about that.  Not even once.  Haven't even had the desire to post up about how much I hate watching basketball.

You shaddup.  Airtime is a valuable and rare commidity.   I only have 386 channels, and every bit of TV time that is taken up by the suxor beisball is bandwidth that Comcast is not devoting to prOn.  It's the same reason I hate basketball.  And golf.  Actually, I hate pretty much anything on TV other than motorcycle racing, bass fishing, Jersey Shore and prOn.

Oh, and DWTS, American Idol and Glee.  And Project Runway.  And anything on Logo.

 ;D

Just to make the derailment of this thread complete...I'm thinking of black duct tape on mine.  How does yours hold up in weather?

Title: Re: The Giants
Post by: Spidey on November 10, 2010, 11:26:40 AM
Really, really poorly.  Duct tape would probably be fine though.  I dunno if you remember lookin' at the helmet, but the disco effect is from a whole bunch little pieces of sticky vinyl (or something like that).  After a while, the ends of each little piece lift up and they flap in the wind. I need to get a clear coat or expoxy or something over it.

My pink duct tape helmet held up for like 5 years.

OK, without asking why it was pink...you really had a duct-taped helmet?  Because I'm serious about trying this.  I don't want to waste my time if it's going to come apart after three months of riding in the rain.

Who gives a shit?  If it comes apart after three months, just stick more duct tape on it.  That's the beauty of duct tape.

I did, but I didn't use it daily. Did it for a date. I suspect duct tape without anything covering it will break down quickly.

It's looking a little grimy.  Thought the duct tape would class it up a bit.  Now that I type that out I should probably rethink my aesthetic.

What about duct taping your gloves. I kind of like the semi homeless Motorcycle messenger look. At least on other people, not so much on me. especially on Spidey. He should get more duct tape on his van too and live in there with an old CB450 and a mangy looking dog.

As for me I'm looking for an official giants hat that says "Beat LA"
