just wondering, i think ill be on mine till snow hits...
I was out at 48 degrees. Not MAJOR but you know....thts stilll pretty cold
it 43 now and im riding today.
hey guys new to the forum! Been riding everyday this week including today, just got home from a ride down to Bongis in dux to get a turkey sandwich. (if anyones local and has not been there you really need to give it a try) temp is currently 49 here in Hanover mass.
ohyeah, 06 S2R 800 by the way [thumbsup]
I rode last weekend and plan on riding this weekend. I'll ride till the salt they roads which will be any day now. [thumbsdown] The salt will wreck the bike.
But I have heated grips and a heated jacket, perfect for those 40 and below rides.
As soon as I get my bike back from the shop on Friday, then I'll still be riding until the weather hits probably around 40s. And uh....not to sound to be mean or anything, Phoenix area is still 50s-80s. It's been too long of a wait, wish I can have pick my bike up today, but guess I have to wait til' Friday. [moto]
Still riding,,, won't stop except to let snow and sand clear the roads as needed. But I'm in CT, our winters aren't as bad as those of our friends much further north..
Oz
My bikes have been stored away since 2 weeks ago. I also have a good excuse .... I had hip replacement surgery last Thursday. [cheeky]
You kids are all waaaaaay too exuberant. ;D
every now and then... we get some really fantastic temps in december [moto]
we have radiant heat in our garage, so we never put the bikes to bed.
i wont ride unless it's 50°+... i don't have the right gear for colder than that
I rode to and from work Thursday. It was 33F and started raining as soon as I hit the end of my driveway. Not too bad, except it's clear I MUST get a pinlock shield and insert for my helmet.
If it's not raining and the roads are clear of snow, ice, and sand I'll ride down to about 20F.
Willl be back on the road this week.
I usually ride down to 20*, anything below disables the bike.
Q
wow, i'm only good til low 50s, it gets way too cold for me to enjoy it anything lower. if it hits 50's while i'm home this weekend though, i plan on riding :)
how hard was it to install heated handgrips btw? i really like the idea of them!

It was 28F when I left the hospital last night at 8:15. My bike was covered in frost so I was watching closely for any frost on the road but didn't see any. With proper gear, cold isn't really the issue in itself. Ice, snow, and road sand aren't my friends so I usually stop riding when those appear on the roads.

In my case, not any effort at all since my bike (Multistrada 1200ST) came with them from the factory. It really shouldn't be at all hard on a Monster, though.
Sunny, 63deg. tomorrow ( Sat. 13 ) Who's gonna be out there? I will.
i'm definitely getting out there... i'm just waiting for it to get a little warmer than the 40 that it is right now.
Heading out today [thumbsup]
The Architect and I went to the top of the Kanc today.
Wish we didn't get started so late.
It was nice.
Road was kind of wet from the snow melt, but it was fairly warm until the sun went below the mountain peaks.
it isn't often I get to ride on Nov 13. [thumbsup]
I got out today as well. It felt great. It did cool off very quickly when the sun got low.
From today.

^^^ that looks cold. :)
Time to winterize the bike.
Maybe on more quick ride today?
bike ride FAIL!
i pulled the bike out yesterday to go to breakfast and enjoy the weather and ride, and my battery was too dead to start :(
oh well... i'll have to borrow a car battery booster pack and jumpstart it.
does anybody know if that will overoad the battery? if it's ok, i'll do it or just let it charge slower on a trickle charger. once it's trickle charged, can i just disconnect the battery for the winter?

A car booster pack will work. Just remember to connect red first and then black. You'll need to ride it for a while to charge it.
The battery should stay on a tender for the winter, but if you just trickle charge...
remove it from the bike and charge it at least once a month during the winter.
yay, bike started for morning commute this morning! this might be my final ride for the season...
what should i do to winterize the bike? fill gas tank, fuel stabilizer, detach battery... anything else?
I also 'fog' the motor and change oil and filter. Even though my bike is stored inside I've had problems with corrosion on valves.
Fogging oil should be available at the box stores or any marina. Just run the motor and spray into the intake until the exhaust starts to smoke and shut it off.

Don't run the fog through the filter. Either take the filter off or spray it into a vacuum line off the throttle bodies.

I know you knew that, he may have not known it. ;D
Well, I just received my "terminate" signal for the season's riding: they were salting the roads in the Monadnock region as I was driving my parents back from Logan at 0200. My car had a layer of ice about 1/4" all-round.
Ice melts , but salt sticks and makes the roads squirrely. Maybe it's just that it makes me squirrely.
In any event, I'm out until spring unless it rains heavily enough to get the salt off the roads and is warm enough that they don't re-apply it.
Good call!
The salt also does a number on the bike. It gets everywhere. The chain will rust before your eyes.

I didn't even know eyes could rust...
Ya, wait for some heavy rain to wash away the salt. Then you have to look out for left over sand and run off.
Do an out and back on the same road or loop to check it out. Wash your bike anyway.
With that, I'll ride year round 40 deg. plus ( no ice thank you ).
My first two years on a streetbike were year round. Snow and ice, sideways dragging feet. 15.5 yr. old idiot.
Layer up ! I snowboard in neg 20. I use the same gear to ride. Balaclava and Gore-tex is good.
Mid 40's this weekend, no salt on the south coast ( Ma. ) I'll be out. Only problem is Pirelli Diablo Rosso doesn't like the cold.
Sideways dragging feet.

Of course they can, that's why it's best to buy coated...........

Went for a ride yesterday around town and out to MotoMarket. Pleasantly surprised by the number of bikes there.
I think I'm going to winterize the Monster but keep riding the Multistrada until the road is snowed/iced. :)
I went out for a ride yesterday. It was about 40 degrees so the heated vest was nice. It was a pretty short one -- long enough to get it warmed up so I could change the oil. When I got back I got the oil changed, put in the stabil, fogged the engine, pulled the battery, put it in the garage and covered it. Can't wait for spring.

0 yesterday.
about 20 today.
I'm done. ;D
went out 2 days ago it was 18 degrees, didnt have my gloves on as they got a little wet so my hands hurt pretty bad so im also done for the winter
every time i finish a mod i want to get out and show it off so it kind of sucks.

0 yesterday.
It's officially cold!
I was done after the kank ride.
well i took her out today as the sun was out and was about 35 degrees.
was pretty comfortable and didnt feel cold. It snowed a little last night
but the roads were clear and dry. so i really cant say when i will be done riding,
every time the sun peaks out i have to hop on and get that "one last ride" in
before i put her away.
I ride year long. With the snow storm last week I ended up not riding since from 12/24 until yesterday and today again. I don't have a garage which sucks. I don't winterize - just ride. I need to get access to the battery to connect heated gear like i have on my VFR, otherwise my hands freeze on longer rides under 40degrees. It was warm today (I think 53), but there was still wet roads with slush which made my back tire skip every once in a while... not pleasant. ATGATT of course..
47 deg. today. Did over 80 mi. 30 something melt run off in the shade wasn't so fun.
put on 50 miles last saturday, roads were clear and in the high 30's
Well I got out for a ride today, what was suppose to be a ride around the block to warm the bike up and make sure I hadn't forgot how to over the long winter ;) turned into a nice 30 mile ride through SE MASS/RI. It was a bit chilly but it was worth it [thumbsup]
