Title: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Jimmy Ducati on November 12, 2010, 07:03:39 AM Stopped by the local Honda/Yamaha dealer in Ft Lauderdale as I was passing by on a work trip. I wanted to see if the new F800 had arrived yet, they had not. On a whim, I asked if Honda was ever going to bring over the Euro CB1000R I have been lusting after for the last 2 years; I was expecting a big NO. However the sales guy said "follow me". We go to his desk and he goes to this link....
http://powersports.honda.com/2011/cb1000r.aspx (http://powersports.honda.com/2011/cb1000r.aspx) Should be here in December he said, and I am now first on the list! If I likey the first one they get is mine. Looks like black may be the only color here he said. I prefer the what I like to call the Mexican Green version, but black looks ok too. He was thinking $11-12k range, but I think that would be a bad move. $10k is about right. I told him I would buy a Duc again for that price. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: MendoDave on November 12, 2010, 08:54:54 AM They need a version based on the RC51 powerplant.
Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: booger on November 12, 2010, 09:11:20 AM I think you should push for the green one if that's what you want. I don't understand why color should be restricted to black for the US. Dealers need to understand a few things. One, if they want to make a sale they need to provide what the customer wants, not what they feel like providing them. Two, if somebody wants a green bike they better damn well sell them a green bike. It's not like the DOT or the EPA restricts the color to black. Not offering the green bike in the US is baffling. It would seem to me that Honda would want to sell as many as they can sell, and a one-color option undermines the goal.

Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: DucNaked on November 12, 2010, 11:01:27 AM Who wants a Honda? I mean do you really want a bike that starts and runs right all of the time? What fun would that be? I just don't get it. :)

Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: hadesducati848 on November 12, 2010, 11:37:31 AM if that thing cost 11-12 k then i would much rather buy a streetfighter.
besides have you ever heard a girl say " ooohhhh you ride a honda, that is so HOT!" Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? It would seem to me that Honda would want to sell as many as they can sell, and a one-color option undermines the goal. I agree 157%. However that was a guess by the sales guy. He was not sure of a bunch of stuff, he just knew it was official. I'm hoping other colors are available, but I don't hate the black. I really wanted to like the new M1100's being I have a 696, but for some reason the larger size ruins the look for me. I can't quite pin it down, but I think it's just like when you lower a car it generally looks cooler... it's just a hunch, but painfully the bigger bro is meh for me. The S4/S2 I dig in a major way, but I came to the Duc party way late. I like buying new things in general over used. I know it's dumb when you can score a low mileage deal, but I generally have bad luck with most appliance/toy type item I buy, so I go new for the inevitable warranty issues that will pop up. Plus, on the upside, it gives you used buyers something to buy. Keep the (pardon the pun) cycle alive. Before I offend any Mexican's with my "Mexican Green" comment, soy one half Mexican. You would never know it looking at me though, I'm pretty gringo looking, but my Mom is from the homeland. My gringa GF always laughs at me when I point out cool cars and bikes because they are always bright yellow, green, or orange.... She will say "just when you fool me into thinking your a straight up white cracker, that mexican comes shooting out of cannon". What can I say I like some flash vatos. ;D Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Jimmy Ducati on November 12, 2010, 11:50:28 AM That is the strangest looking exhaust I have yet seen. All in all it's cool I think You know I didn't like it when I first saw it 2 years ago, but it has grown on me since then. Assuming I actually get one I would probably keep it for a while, especially since I will be broke. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: fastwin on November 12, 2010, 01:33:50 PM They need a version based on the RC51 powerplant. Agreed. I love my Hayden Replica! Strong, bullet proof powerplant. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: geoffduc on November 13, 2010, 09:18:37 AM So its a honda!! you know that it will do every thing that it says on the tin but do you really want a soulless motorcycle weather it be black or green (by the way the green one looks aweful) and those wheels and strange exhaust, no sir if it were me i'd be changing the 696 for a new 1100 evo... [thumbsup]
Oh well thats my two cents... [moto] [coffee] Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Raux on November 13, 2010, 09:28:10 AM wheels, exhaust, lights.. all need to be changed
but honda products [thumbsdown] not after they screwed me with my Acura Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Buckethead on November 13, 2010, 05:15:50 PM What part of you possibly owning a (totally badass) Honda means you get/have to stop hanging out on the DMF?
Is it not a motorcycle? Are you not going to mod it? I'm seriously lost here. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Duck-Stew on November 13, 2010, 06:00:23 PM Nicely laid out gauges.
SSSA is hidden behind that exhaust, but I'm sure the aftermarket will cure that. Headlight is dumb, but a standard round one is easy to come by (my tastes)... All in all, I like it. Looks better IMO than the naked GSXR that Suzuki's planning. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: geoffduc on November 14, 2010, 01:33:17 AM Jimmy we've had them on sale over here in the UK for a couple of years and I can honestly say that I've not seen one on the road when I've been out and about.
The Z1000 is a much more popular bike but again it don't ring my bell and as for the naked suzuki well lets cross that off the list. Again my two cents but I don't think Jimmy honda rolls off the tongue as good as Jimmy ducati... ;) ;) [coffee] Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Big props to whomever runs this thing [beer] Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Jimmy Ducati on November 14, 2010, 10:58:44 AM Again my two cents but I don't think Jimmy honda rolls off the tongue as good as Jimmy ducati... ;) ;) [coffee] I was reluctant to use that name knowing it is kinda pompous, but my gf's mom called me that the second she saw the name on the tank and I took my lid off. It kind of stuck and now everyone I know now calls me that. It does have a certain ring to it. It surprises me the kawasaki is more popular. My total guess is it is cheaper, and maybe has more power? I cannot believe that more people like the look of the Kawi over that Honda. The exhaust and headlamp on the Honda are love em or hate em items... yes, but to me the whole Kawai is love it or hate it. Here in the states most people are not big fans. The dealerships will confirm this. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: flynbulldog on November 15, 2010, 08:12:36 PM Other than the $$$ why wouldn't you get the streetfighter?
over 100 lbs lighter and 30 more HP and it looks much better... :-\ SF 368 lbs 155 HP Honda 478 lbs 124 HP (advertised specs) Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: muskrat on November 15, 2010, 08:46:01 PM I saw this bike at the Dallas bike show, nowhere near the kick ass looks of the SF.

I love the SF, but even used I figure it will be $2K more than this new. Now that is a total guess being not even the dealers know how much it will cost yet. I called Riva Yamaha/Honda and they told me they wont be here till probably April. The guy said it could be sooner, but based off of past experience went with MArch/April. Confirmed there is no price point yet. WHat I really want is an 848 SF but I guess that is another issue completely. I haven't ruled out a Triumph Speed Triple, but something about that works for me one day and the next not so much. Who knows, I just may keep my 696 a bit linger and my 848SF dream will come true. I didn't think the Honda would ever get here so ya never know..... Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Unfortunately like most of us I have champagne tastes and a sparkling wine budget. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: Raux on November 16, 2010, 11:32:40 AM I'm thinking the 848SF will come through.
They can't continue to go further and further upmarket when MV Augusta, KTM and others are expanding in the midsize market. Title: Re: I Might Be Saying Farewell?? Post by: zenjim on November 17, 2010, 07:06:37 AM Those Honda fellas need to learn a thing or two from the Italians about making videos.
Honda excitement level - watching a bunch of dudes uncrate a bike. Ducati excitement level - dudes thrashing the bike through a warehouse and junkyard performing holliganistic type stuff that requires a "professional riders on closed course" warning.
