Title: "roadracing" bits & pieces
Post by: ccm900 on November 14, 2010, 01:21:40 PM
I picked up this monster a few months back that has some "roadracing" parts on it. After doing a little research I haven't been able to find anything on these guys except they are no longer available. Does anybody know the story on this stuff? Any good? Sought after? Just curious. Here's a few pics of what I have. I've also got a high mount exhaust and a steering damper on the bike with an unknown manf. Any ideas?

So far The roadracing parts I know of are the rear carbon tire hugger, the sprocket covers and the carbon brake cooler.

the rise at the body by the tank exposed the entire vertical head. looked really trick

yeah it was aluminum and as noted has a big pass through. Their stuff is pretty unobtanium and I've watched a couple ebay bidding ways errupt over the more sought after items

those things were aluminum tanks in the days of steel oem tanks. very light.

when i replace mine, as much as I would like to score one, because the manufacturer is now defunct, i may get an ETI. I did have a Japanese (iirc) manufacturer of Aluminum tanks bookmarked somewhere though.

how do you have an aluminum tank? It is either steel or it is plastic or it is very expensive and you bought it from somebody other than ducati.

I'd be all over that if it hadn't been crashed and subsequently chromed. The beauty of those tanks to me was always the AL finish...

If I am correctly decoding what the seller was saying  ??? - it was painted to look like chrome - not chromed. Either way I agree - aluminum tank is best left alone - maybe a clear coat so you don't go broke buying NevrDull

Sold for $650.

I don't really understand these holes.  Is there a passageway through the tank that leads to the airbox?

I had asked the seller the same thing.  Says that they are air passages which help significantly to direct air into the airbox.

The holes seem gimicky to me.  They shouldn't be on the top side of the tank if they are to direct air into the airbox.

Work or not I'd rather have the extra fuel - if these really are holes through the tank - And unless we find the guy that bought the thing we'll never know - They would have to decrease the tank's fuel capacity.

nope....got rid of it.
went to a 'regular' chromed DP tank

I had trouble with the pump (it was converted from a carbed tank i think...)
it didnt have the holes...

Was the tank you had actually aluminum - I still question if the one shown on ebay was actually aluminum

It was, in fact, aluminum (I've seen his bike up close. It's purdy)

And I'd forgotten it was made for carbed bikes.

So who still owns the rights, product drawings, etc... to roadracing?

If anyone was in close with them, or knows them, try to put them in touch with me, I would be interested in re-starting that biz state-side.

Cool. I scored a set of these but mine have a different 'bracket' - no top bolt mount but it does have an additional hole sticking up/out by the caliper.  Not quite sure how it attaches beyond the axle pinch bolt.

I will try to grab some pics.

so i'm trying to figure out how one might properly affix these, as I see only one possible mount point, and the ones you pictured have the second mount point at the top by the caliper bolt.

And the example I found on the webs (apparently not so easy to find relevant search results with a company named "roadracing" y'know?)

Any thoughts?   Can't figure out if those two tiny holes - one by the larger front axle fork bottom pinch bolt, the other by the indentation on the 40mm brake calipers - are to be used for anything or not.  They don't appear to be used by previous owner and there's no place to affix to on the calipers in that region - either goldlines or GP's.    ???

Looks to me like those you have and the set shown earlier are for a different type of brake setup.  I think those that you showed would work on my brake system.  Send them my way and I will put them on and let you know.  I can even send you pictures once they are mounted.   ;D

I'd strangle a kitten for an aluminum tank, but I couldn't possibly shell out 2,300 dollars for one. And I drool over the rise that exposes the rear head...

I can't even find a good used steel tank for my bike; I have a WTB on this board and TOB... searched ebay, etc, but I haven't had a single reply.

I can imagine the work involved in building an aluminum tank, suitable for polishing, justifies the cost, though. Quality craftsmanship is rare and expensive.

There seems to be too few options for those who want a good tank-

Congratulations are in order for the OP; he stumbled upon a rare treasure.
