Count me     >>> "IN" <<<

I would also be "in" for the Townhomes or whatever works for the group.  Hanging out there was great fun last year.  I never thought that we could get 13 Ducatis in one small garage!

Just put me anywhere that Karl and Pam are staying!!!!!!  ....In fact, now that I think about it, the whole darn group was simply outstanding!      [clap]      I'd be happy to spend a whole week with them riding, eating, drinking, sleeping, and ...repeating.......

By the way, the "Rain Rescue Truck" will again be available for hauling bodies from the "Dirty Bar" for those who are not already sleeping on the floor of that fine establishment.....

Does anyone want color route maps and road suggestions again this year?  ....I'll probably go a few days early and scout the territory and road conditions.  Last year that was giggle producing fun too.   [moto]

Back on topic.

Re: Ouray lodging.

I know there has been a lot of discussion and/or drama over the last couple years regarding the hotel for DiTR.

Here's the deal.

The point of the gathering in Ouray, is just that.  A gathering.  A group of like minded people who love their Ducatis who get together each year to hang out, ride, shoot the shit, ride, drink, eat, bench race, have fun, drink, etc.

It makes it much easier to negotiate for a lower rate if all or most attendees stay at the same place.

That being said, there are really two hotels in town that can accommodate a group of our size with suitable and safe parking - Best Western Twin Peaks and Hot Springs Inn (both have their plusses and minuses)

Unless anyone has a better suggestion for a "base camp hotel", please let myself, Rev. Millertime, Titty or Mojo know.

C'mon, Randimus, NOTHING says TOGETHERNESS more than 38 people sharing a one bedroom condo.  :-*

Besides, it just would not be DiTR without the annual e-fistacuffs over lodging.  [roll]

Y'all have fun this year.  [thumbsup] [moto] [drink] [bacon]

Randy,
There are two condos next to each other that sleep ten folks each...same place we stayed last year.
Additional condos that sleep 8 are available. They dropped the price to $300 per night per condo for this year.
If you and your group are interested I can get you the contact information etc.

I don't think condos are going to work for a group of our size.

While the NM contingent is/has been a cozy clan for a while, there will also be a number of people who aren't as close coming from other states/regions.

In that case, a hotel give the best options for lodging.

Yes....Pam wants to do hostess duties and would like to get requests or suggestions for the menu. Once we know how many folks will attend and receive your sleeping preferences we will book accordingly. What kind of money are we talking about per person, guys?  I don't want to spend too much so I can have plenty of cashola for the Barber trip in October.
Here is one possibility: http://www.alpenglowouray.com/no3.html (http://www.alpenglowouray.com/no3.html)
It is closer to town and sleeps up to 10 (3 separate bedrooms, two beds and two couches).
Total rent for 3 nights is $1,050...so I guess the bedrooms could go for $250 each and the single
beds and couches could go for $100 per person if we fill up the place =$1,150....not bad for a 3 night stay.
Pam can haul two people in her car and the food and booze. Anyone interested in crashing on the floor
would pay $50 for 3 nights . Any money collected above and beyond the $1,050 will go towards
nourishment which ran around $ 350 for the whole group last year.
Your input would be appreciated  8)

Update:
Alpenglow on 2nd str and 5th ave has 2 condos available that sleeps 8 each, check out the floor plan: http://www.alpenglowouray.com/no15.html (http://www.alpenglowouray.com/no15.html)
This keeps us only two blocks away from the B/W and close to downtown.
Talking to some of the NMMR folks this weekend, it looks like we might have 16+ members attending.
Once we get everyone's sleeping preferences and a confirmed head count we can book the place(s).
The deposit for the two units would be $900 which is half of the total cost of a three night stay.
This would give us 6 bedrooms, 4 baths and two couches with plenty of floor space for anyone
willing to sleep on an air mattress or crash on the floor.

I'm fixing to put a deposit on the two condos that sleep 8 plus floor space and a two bedroom condo.
The current head count is as follows:
Bedroom: Krystle & Matt
             Stew & Ro
             John & Adam
             Tara & Kevan
             JJ & Molly
             Pam & Karl
With the additional two bedroom condo we would have a separate bedroom for Buckethead and L'Scott if so desired (please let me know).
Three sleeper sofas in living areas are available plus 2 regular sofas and floor space for air mattresses and sleeping bags.
Sofa proponents are: Ed unless Tara's husband doesn't show up   ;D,  Scott, my neighbor Adam,
Nick J., his friend Chris,
Floor occupants would be Jim (Red Glove), Jonezy, Craig, Justin and maybe Brandon (madduc), Chris Haddad
which means that the regular sofa folks and the floor occupants  need to bring their own bedding or air mattress etc. or have Pam haul it up in her car
The total bill for a three night stay is $2,550 incl. taxes.
This would translate into the following rate schedule for the three night stay:
Bedrooms: $ 275
Sleeper  Sofa : $ 100
Regular Sofa: $75
Floor: $50
This is the total for the three night stay and if you do the math, it
includes $400 for food Pam will haul up there to make breakfast every morning, a couple of dinners and some booze.
You have to talk to her about her cooking fee yourself ;D
She can haul some of your stuff in her car if needed.
Please let me know of any changes or cancellations so I can keep your expense to a minimum.

Karl, I have a small change to make. Molly decided to forego the trip so I can be on the solo riding spirit and carry less emotion..you all know what that means with me...! So anything sofa/couch to fit my tiny 160lb 5'7" is perfect so I can hang out with the group. If we fall short, let me know as well...I'm sure it can be worked out! Thanks! This is gonna be a blast!

Not so fast...Pam just told me that I screwed up on the total I posted, should be $2,713.62 incl. tax and fees.
This will add about $8 per person.

.. hope the last hour bail outs are at a minimum...CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Was not an issue last year...we actually had more folks staying that initially committed.
Also, keep in mind that we can always cancel the two bedroom condo if necessary at a $40 fee as long
as we do it 40 days before the event.

I am going to have to back out this year. My concentration needs to be on earning a living, so an extra trip west is not in the cards. Hopefully, this will not mess up Karl's arrangements for setting up the NMMR Headquarters in Ouray.

DitR Official Signature Cocktail
Though a close personal friend and Aprilia rider (don’t hold that against him) we were able to get world renowned Mixologist Charlotte Voisey to personally design Ducati in the Rockies it’s own signature cocktail.   The DitR Italian Margarita.  It is made with Solerno, a Sicilian Blood Orange Liqueur made in Italy and it is amazing.

The bar at the Best Western Twin Peaks will have all the ingredient to make this delicious drink on site.

Here is a link to the drink:

It has a queen size sofa sleeper available if anyone is interested for $150. Let me know ASAP as we have to have the reservation in to either the condos or the hotel by Tuesday. This is sort of a make it or break on the trip for me. I need to keep lodging as close to or below $300 as possible. Let me know!

anyone has any food intolerances. In case anyone wants to show off their culinary skills and make one of their

Title: Re: DiTR '11

My mapping program says that the quickest way to the fun in Ouray is to go Cuba, Aztec, Durango, Ouray = 287 miles and about 6 hours.   That gets the hot, boring part over in the early morning and leaves the nice road for the early afternoon.   [Dolph]

That is the route that I plan to use, but I will be trailering the red bike, will have the A/C on blast and the stereo playing Vivaldi....  So, my vote doesn't count.  I will also go a few days early to scout the roads.   8)

Going through Tres Pedras adds about 100 miles for a total of 386 miles and is about 7 1/2 hours.  (St. Fe, Espanola, Tres Pedras, Tierra Amarilla, Pagosa Spgs, Durango, Ouray).

Adding Taos to the mix adds more miles and time, 406 miles, 8 1/2 hours.

So, there it is.... The challenge of small gas tanks, long distances between gas stations, Ducati's famed riding position, afternoon rain and the lure of the map-trap with more and more nice roads to ride......   [evil]

It's "map chess".....  Which route....?  Is it an opportunity  ;D  or a trap....?   :-[

Title: Re: DiTR '11
Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on July 26, 2011, 11:00:47 AM
I know it will be longer if we go to Taos  :-\

but that's were need to go to pick up scott...

unless he wants to meet us in Chama?

i'm with Ed, the longer we take the more likily we will hit the rain the afternoon..so the early we get going the better chance we have making thro the pass better and not getting flash flooding...

But it's up to you guys...

Scott you willing to meet us in Chama?

I am leaving two weeks from today to go far north, Aspen, etc. then wind my way back through Grand Junction down to Ouray Thursday nite. Will ride Friday to Durango to meet up with the crew. Hey kids-

At some point I'll need a definitive answer from the group-

1. y'all swinging through Tres Piedras,

-or-

B. Meeting you in Tierra Amarilla

Also, if anyone wants to come up here on Thursday, I have a ton of room, just lemme know  [thumbsup]
We can grill, sip adult beverages, maybe do some warm-up rides, & you'll have a shorter day on Friday. Just sayin'...

Not that this is an answer, Scott.  I will be coming through Taos Thursday on my bike & would absolutely take you up on all the above if you'll take me. I'll be 700mls. in by the time I get there, so if no one else shows & you just want to [beer] I'm down.
Will have to fly out for a bike race Fri. night, so, I figured a Sit on my ass & let the motor do the work ride was in order.
Oh, And a new set of Pilot P's are calling my name.

Going to pick up our French buddy in TP will only add 40 miles to the trip if we are going through TA anyway.
This way he can throw some of his stuff into Pam's car...works for me [thumbsup]

I tell ya what, That's pretty darn good for mostly Crest & city mls. Keeping stuff clean is amazing, right?
And, I'm glad you did fall for the 520 "Race" chains.  Hell, I've got bicycle chains stronger than those.  [laugh]

About drop-off, are we meeting at Bernalillo Starbucks early morning Friday. Assume someone will post up the exact time (6 or 7 am?). Can I drop off a small backpack there or would you like it earlier? Thanks a ton to Pam for shuttling it over...Cant imagine riding to Ouray with a backpack!

Why? Why? Why?!!!  [bang] [bang] [bang] :'( :'( :'(

This means you spend the Saturday with us and solo on Sunday back?! Well, if that is what it is, we will make the best of it two days for ya to NOT DO THIS NEXT TIME... [cheeky] Mine goes into reserve always between 85 to 87 miles on clock, so we should be good except on one highly technical route 92 that we did last time...I almost stretch rolled into the gas station and then, my bike did better on gas! I may carry a tube & use Bernoulli from other monstrosities out there...!

Glad you are making it! I cant wait to go...! [Dolph]

Mine goes into reserve always between 85 to 87 miles on clock.

JJ, The more important question is, How many miles do you "really" have in reserve. If we're talking highway miles, I can get twice (Yes, twice) that mileage out of my 1098S. A few of you have witnessed it multiple times.  And yes, I'm going fast enough to get busted.  But when talking Crest runs like so many people do 'em. It's a make the beast with two backsing miracle anyone gets anything over 80.
Squeeze is always better than jerk...and that's across the board.  ;D

Oh, And on another note, The next time any of you see that old bastard on the Duel Sport thingy. Kick him in the nuts for me.    I am a bicycle racer. I do NOT take up any of the road going up. & going down the Crest, Most (and all cars) will have a tough time staying with me on the upper section.  I was going down as he was going up last week & saw him pass "dead" blind. I was far enough inside that he got between the car & I, but if it were motorcycle or car, All hell would have broken out. I'm talking like 3ft. Could have put my foot out & touched him.

Hey you old prick.  Just because you have no respect for your own life... Leave ours alone.

 Ride safe. Rage on Ducs!

I think it's funny when matt gets mad at me when i run out of gas on the moto...but i do that to see how far i can go on my reserve...i have tested this many times [laugh]

I plan to ride up with the gang leaving from Starbucks Friday morning, then zipping back down 550 Sunday for the trip home.  Reckon I can find gas for the MHe at regular 90 mile intervals?   ???
You will be fine Scott. The total distance is less than 280 miles for you and the following pit stops should do the job:
Ouray-Durango 70 miles, Durango-Bloomfield 45 miles, here is where it gets tight... Bloomfield-Cuba 88 miles. I do remember a gas station before you get to
Cuba on the left hand side if you need it. Cuba - Albuquerque 80 miles.

Even though I will be spending this weekend in the basement of a building in lovely Newark, NJ, I am feeling the excitement as it builds. Mouse is so revved up I fear she may explode.

Ride safe & party hard, you all.

I kinda meant on the ride route Saturday around Colorado.  I'm told fuel can be a little far between out in the Boonies.   ;)

As the Rail Runner chugs along past the Indian Reservations between Kiva and 599, I think of the tall mountains around Ouray, the deep valleys, curvy roads, lack of side rails, loud red Ducs beating desmo tantrum, laughter and steak on grills...so close to so much fun...last day at work and the ultimate fun ready to unfold...Hooray! It is almost almost almost time....!  Surely, I'm the most motivated employee today...?! ;D [Dolph]

Any suggestions and recommendations to make it an even better event would be greatly appreciated.

A Review of Ducati in the Rockies 2011

2011 was a great year for Ducati in the Rockies (DitR).  Attendance was up and we saw several new faces among our old friends.  We had approximately 70 people from seven states.  The food at the Saturday BBQ was a huge hit, as were the Italian Margaritas served at the Best Western’s Tiki Bar.  Both of these will be back next year along with some new ideas we are already working on.

Next year’s Ducati In The Rockies will be August 10th - 13th.

We’re already planning to make next year’s event even better.  DitR has a new website with more photos, more detailed ride maps and the latest event information.  Be sure to check out the new 10 minute ride video on YouTube showing a quick run to the top of Red Mountain Pass (Million Dollar Highway).  We also have a new FaceBook page that will better serve our event.

Please contact us and let us know if you have any questions or comments.
