Title: The Royal Wedding
Post by: Monsterlover on April 17, 2011, 07:50:08 PM
Why is this such a big deal?

People get married all the time. What am I missing?
Title: Re: The Royal Wedding
Post by: Kopfjager on April 17, 2011, 07:55:14 PM
Well for starters, the Prince and Princess of Whales son doesn't get married everyday.

I still don't see why its a big deal.

You known who else doesn't get married everyday?  My mother and father in laws daughter. I didn't see CNN camped out in my yard. ;)

Maybe my priorities are skewed

They are Royalty, if it was Joe Schmoe and his wife Mrs. Schmoe then we'd never here a thing about it.

Even if it was the Prince of Coratia we'd not hear but a blurb about it.

Must have to do w. the fact that we were once Subjects of England over here and we share a common language.

Otherwise , who does give a Rat's ass.

I refuse to recognize the efficacy of this royal union unless there is streaming video of the marriage being consummated

as for the masses becoming uppity....

I believe it was Marie Antoinette who remarked that the peasants were revolting

to which the King replied "of course they are revolting, they are peasants"

Boarding School Nancy ;D

I recall the rumors back in the era of NORAID and the IRA troubles

that Lord Mountbatten had a history of using his nephew Charles for pleasure

The joke was that when the IRA blew Mountbatten out of the water they ruined Charles' sex life

Seems Dickie didn't mind much his wife finding her own way around back when

To be fair, up until he was in his late teens he was a *very* cute boy.  Then he started looking more and more like his dad.  I shudder to think what he'll look like 10 years from now.

Well, I was getting a little irritated thinking about the colossal waste of cash taking place if the tax payers did indeed have to pay for it.

Then I remembered I live here and not there.

many years ago when the big ears got married to Diana I was on board ship here in the USA tied up alongside. The officers were abundantly clear that those of us that were not officers would not be allowed to watch the royal proceedings on that day on the television set as we were not officers, even if we were not on duty. They all watched it with great glee and had local dignatries on board..It was then that I realized what class distinction was. I was only 17 and felt like I had been trated like a second class citizen. I came from a very good family ,old money, but chose my own way in the world, rather than have Grandma pull strings. When she found out I was not an officer she cut me out of her will.
My life is a blank page and I am the pen. I own my life,I write my own story.
I pity these poor people who cannot even so much as pass wind without even having to ask permission first.
I could care less about the royal nuptuals and care even less what or who or how much is spent. I became a US Citizen in 2007 and love my sweet and wonderful adopted state-Oregon!

It's better than most of the sh*t you see on the news every day !

It's history in the making.

Think back to what you learned in school about Europe...a lot of it had to do with the Monarchs of the different time periods and Countries.

Some day the children of today will read about this as history , a lot of people will have a good time for one day ...more than most people on this Fuc*ed up Planet will have.

As previously stated, it's history in the making. We'll always remember this day..whether we want to or not and what else was going on in the world at this time. The tornadoes, the delayed shuttle launch, Japan, Libya, etc. Ill remember my wife standing in front of me this morning 7 months pregnant and talking about our wedding so long ago now. Seeing Kate in that dress and William in his suit and the look in their eyes reminds me why we got married. Its a happy day. Even if you don't care about the royal family.

I'm surprised no one else has figured this out yet:

It's girl porn.

The fantasy.

Which is better than any reality anyone you know will ever experience first hand.

What every little girl thinks she wants: to be a princess. To marry a prince.

This wedding is the female version of Showgirls. Only nastier.

Every female college dorm room for the next 5 years is going to have a copy.

Girls are going to unintentionally walk in on their roommates watching it in their PJ's, lap conveniently covered by a blanket.

"Oh, hey. Just stopped by to get my purse. Wanna come out to the bar with us?"

"Uhhh... Nah, I'm already ready for bed. I think I'll just stay in and finish watching this. For the 372nd time."

He'll piss on your grave IZ_.

Glad your feeling optimistic in regards to his longevity.  I have a kid to raise starting in July, however.  Class of 2029.  That's a long way out.  Kop will be pushing 75 by then with several years of Crossfit and bad form under his belt.  ;D  His body may give out before then.  If your prediction does come to fruition though, it may be due to a heart attack following kid's college tuition bills.  At that point, by all means, have Kop's caretaker empty out his urostomy bag on my remains.

;D

that little bag could probably be used as a body bag for you as well.
Sounds fun to display you as a little corpse floating in old man fluids.  [cheeky]

King of England
-Head of State of all UK
  - No law goes into effect without his signature (or her if queen)
     - William is in line for the throne
--first king to marry his first choice (well, first who doesn't have to step down)
--AND she's the first spouse to not be a COUSIN

I'd say it's a big deal.  Williams' kids will be the first non-inbred royals.

Was Di a cousin?

Was Di a cousin?

yes..

The line for Prince Charles is as follows :

William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire, d. 1755, father of
William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire, d. 1764, father of
Lady Dorothy Cavendish, d. 1794, mother of
Lord William Cavendish-Bentinck, d. 1826, father of
Charles Cavendish-Bentinck, d. 1865, father of
Nina Cavendish-Bentinck, d. 1938, mother of
Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, d. 2002, mother of
Queen Elizabeth II, mother of
Charles, Prince of Wales.

The line for Diana, Princess of Wales is as follows :

William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire, d. 1755, father of
Lady Elizabeth Cavendish, d. 1796, mother of
William Ponsonby, 1st Baron Ponsonby, d. 1806, father of
Mary Ponsonby, d. 1861, mother of
Lady Elizabeth Grey, d. 1880, mother of
Louisa Bulteel, d. 1892, mother of
Mary Baring, d. 1906, mother of
Albert Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer, d. 1975, father of
Edward Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, d. 1992, father of
Lady Diana Spencer, d. 1997.

Bear in mind that all of the people in their line are ALSO cousins so the effect of inbreeding accumulates thru generations.  If you keep all breeding within 5-10 steps of cousins, the effect over 4-5 generations is like you're marrying your 2nd or 3rd cousin.  After 7 generations... who knows?

for instance:
Charles lineage (parents were 2nd cousins)
Queen Elizabeth->father->father->mother->King Christian IX
Prince Philip->father->father->King Christian IX

20 years from now?!  Well, you're alert but your orientation to time is a bit askew.

That would be cute to see though.  Kind of like a Matthau/Lemon reunion except even more grumpier, older men.  ;D
