Title: height? Post by: KTMracerx009 on May 13, 2011, 10:36:19 AM alright so im in love with the ducati monster but from what ive heard and read they are not for the "taller" riders. is there a way ro raise the seat on the bike to fit me or would i be fine? now im pushing 6'3 and thats why i ride a KTM dirtbike becasue they are nice and tall.
Title: Re: height? Post by: Monster Dave on May 13, 2011, 10:48:53 AM The answer to your question is yes.
Do a search under the mods section and you should find it. Out of curiosity, have you looked at the Hypermotard? Title: Re: height? Post by: KTMracerx009 on May 13, 2011, 10:57:22 AM yeah i know you can lower it
i havent looked at them really just saw one on the show room floor Title: Re: height? Post by: Monster Dave on May 13, 2011, 10:59:50 AM Since you weren't really specific about the year of the Monster, I was only speaking about the older generation. Others will have to chime in about newer ones.
The Hypermotards are great for people who are tall like you are. Title: Re: height? Post by: zarn02 on May 13, 2011, 12:58:41 PM I rode a '00 M900 at 6'2" without issue.
Title: Re: height? Post by: sbrguy on May 13, 2011, 02:08:25 PM get a 2010 mv agusta brutale they are way too tall. lol
Title: Re: height? Post by: DesmoDiva on May 13, 2011, 02:16:32 PM Maybe stopintime will chime in...
IIRC, he is 6' 3" or 4." Title: Re: height? Post by: booger on May 13, 2011, 02:21:01 PM Newer Monsters do not have an adjustable ride height rod like the older ones did. You can solve that problem however, with... what was it... oh yeah something called 'mo money'. Lots mo. And no, cranking the preload is not the proper way to do it. Buying a Penske rear shock with adjustable ride height for example- that's pretty much the only proper way. $$$$$$
If you raise it a lot, you'll need a longer sidestand to go along with it. A Hypermotard is a good bike, with a properly high saddle. But that's not the bike you are in love with. Look for a good used S4R/S4RS from the previous generation 2005-2008. They have adjustable ride height rods from the factory. They look better and have more badass power & speed anyway. Title: Re: height? Post by: Jarvicious on May 13, 2011, 03:23:34 PM I'm 6'4" and have never though the bike was too small. I've had one or two people say "you look like a damn gorilla on that thing" but they're usually just trying to piss me off by saying it :)
My 05 S2R 800 (same bike Stopintime has, IIRC) has an adjustable ride height linkage in the back that was pretty easy to setup. I guess it depends on what bike you're looking at getting. The 696s definitely sit lower than my bike, I don't know about the 796 or 1100 though. Title: Re: height? Post by: Raux on May 14, 2011, 09:04:50 AM the 1100 can be raised a bit i'm sure with some spacers on the clevis, and pulling the forks through
Title: Re: height? Post by: derby on May 14, 2011, 09:06:33 AM please understand that a "height" adjustment also changes the geometry of the bike and can have significant impact on the handling unless it's done correctly.
Title: Re: height? Post by: stopintime on May 14, 2011, 03:59:17 PM Maybe stopintime will chime in... IIRC, he is 6' 3" or 4." Depends on how I do my hair 8) S2R/S4R not a problem, but better with a built & raised seat and or adjustable foot pegs/rear sets. 696 feels roomier even if the ride height isn't. 796/1100 are close to perfect. Title: Re: height? Post by: meanmonster on May 14, 2011, 07:17:08 PM 2009 1100S with a 2010 796 seat, lower bars (SM bars adusted wth as much downward sweep as i could get) and Rezoma restarts (adjustablity).
Perfect fit at with those mods at 6'2" and 220lb... Love her. Title: Re: height? Post by: KTMracerx009 on May 15, 2011, 07:59:07 PM ok guys that awesome to hear, i dont mind looking like a giant on one, i mean i was riding a 99 kawaski ninja 250 for acouple months (itwas givin to me)
Title: Re: height? Post by: jeffcon0 on May 20, 2011, 07:49:54 AM I'm 6' 4", 190lbs and I ride a 696. The stock seat isn't great for us tall guys so I ponied up for the DP touring seat. I'd say it raises the seat a bit over an inch and flattens out the seat/tank junction to make it much more comfortable. I don't feel uncomfortable or that the bike is too small for me. Sure, it would fit better if I was 5' 10" but eventually you just have to realize that nothing about motorcycling is made to accomodate us tall fellas.
I've had a WAAAAY harder time finding motorcycle jackets that fit. Speaking of which, any of you tall guys have any suggestions on leather jackets with long arms? Title: Re: height? They've both had luck with Dainese; one's 6'3" and the other's 6'5".I've had a WAAAAY harder time finding motorcycle jackets that fit. They've both had luck with Dainese; one's 6'3" and the other's 6'5". Yes, I like the way Dainese fit me - 6'3" with normal/long arms. I'd say that a Euro 56 will probably be long enough, but at 190 you may have to get one of their race'ier models for it to be a proper fit. Difficult to be sure without trying a few on. Another Euro slim fit manufacturer with great reviews, also by me, is Rev'it. Title: Re: height? Post by: justinrhenry on May 20, 2011, 05:04:07 PM i'm 6'3" and have a 2003 620. with the corbin seat and handlebar risers i'm very comfy.
Title: Re: height? Post by: IZ on May 20, 2011, 08:19:05 PM Are you looking at an old or new generation Monster? What kind of riding do you plan on doing? City? Distance? Commuter?
I have an '03 620. Rode it as a daily commuter up until 2/10 when I bought a '10 1100. I'm 5'9 and when I ride the 620 now, it feels a lot cramped. I'd get a new Monster or an MV Brutale..as previously mentioned. Title: Re: height? Post by: Raux on May 21, 2011, 02:01:53 AM Talk to stopintime or DoubleEagle.
