Ducati has had a partnership with Tumi for a while now...though I do like some of the subtle updates done to the bags for the most recent release...

Nothing says douchebag at the airport quite like your Ducati luggage! [thumbsup]
Think I'm gonna buy me the carry on duffle for $300 and the 25" expandable case for $600 just for the super douche look.

the regular tumi luggage is already at those price points.  the ducati part doesn't add any extra msrp amazingly.

I wanna join the douchebaggery but I treat my luggage like shit every week and travelpro holds up at a third of the cost

I would use this maybe if I worked for Ducati...but my Ducati gear stops at hats and t-shirts.

Someone please explain how wearing a Ducati hat or t-shirt is any less douchey than having Ducati luggage?

Remember...the luggage isn't expensive because it's Ducati branded, but rather because that is what Tumi luggage costs...whereas that $50 Ducati shirt you're wearing is that expensive only because it says Ducati.

???

It just makes you that much more of a douchebag.

I used to travel weekly and my luggage took a beating. I prefer Samsonite just because their hard cases were excellent. I don't mind paying slightly more for something that has proven to last, but I ain't paying no $300 for a carry-on bag unless it gives me a BJ every time I take it on the plane.

Because it's a t shirt and every company and their brother's company has a t shirt or hat. Going out of your way to buy luggage that's branded Ducati (unless you're traveling with the team), makes you look like the douchebag that buys everything Harley. AKA Harley douchebag of which there is an unlimited supply here in MKE!

I don't get the logic...promoting a brand is promoting a brand. Having a Ducati carry-on is no different than wearing a hat or shirt (which you had to go out of your way to find likely...and probably paid too much for as well since Ducati clothing is overpriced).

FWIW I have a KTM roller bag. It's an Ogio, not a Tumi, so it cost about 1/3 the amount. But it's a quality bag and it's easy to see at baggage claim when I have to check it, unlike the standard black roller bags that all look alike. I didn't "go out of my way" to find it...just saw it on a site, needed a new roller bag, so I bought it. Big deal.

The true douchebag is the guy that has a Ducati bag (or wears a shirt, hat, etc), but doesn't own a Ducati, or worse has never owned one. Same as the guy with a West Coast Choppers or OCC sticker on his truck, but doesn't own one or even ride.

Tri J is only a closet douchebag. Come out of the closet dude  ;D

I think there are 2 issues we're discussing here. 1) Would you pay a premium for a bag because of the brand name? 2) How much of a douchebag do you look when using things branded with a motorcycle name when the item has nothing to do with a motorcyle?

I think that if you build a hard case that can be attached to a Duc, then it makes sense. I would pay good money for a roller bag that can be used on my bike.

I'm a douche, I bought a ducati hat on ebay for $20 and a t-shirt at my local dealer (3 miles away from my house) for $25 while I was there picking up a part.

Now I just need to get the ducati wine, the ducati watch, the duacati cologne and the ducati luggage.  That will surely complete my package. Maybe that will upgrade me to Douche Nozzle!

I don't really think wearing ducati stuff makes you look like a douche only because nobody's really looking at you anyway.
Most people are too wrapped up in their own world to care what kind of t-shirt some other clown happens to be wearing.

for me the bigger issue is paying a premium price for a hat, t-shirt or piece of luggage with Ducati labels all over it. I'd rather save my money for motorcycle trips and mexican vacations when it's cold here.  I guess if you have the spare jack to spend on ducati stuff....... great, but for me, I'd get very little out of it relative to the cost.

Seriously, who cares.  If people want Ducati luggage, then they can buy Ducati luggage.

The only thing douchey is judging people based on what they're wearing or what luggage they buy.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Seriously, wait on the year end clearance.  I got a couple t-shirts, a long sleeve t-shirt and a long sleeve polo for under $100 in January.  They had to make room for the new styles.  I look good in nice stuff (the stuff my local dealer carries is good quality) and don't spend a fortune.

Yeah, I don't know.  It's just that t-shirts with motorcycle logos just don't seem to be in the same category as designer luggage.

I bought the Ducati-less version of the backpack (like pic but plain black with just Tumi logo) that expands to hold a helmet from the Tumi outlet up in Seattle.  $60..decent price!  Never actually used the helmet holder but I do put my raingear in the expandable pocket.  I've had it now for 4 years and still use it daily.  It does the job, i.e.: carries books, food, has a couple pockets on the shoulder straps, etc.  Tumi could definitely improve on the design though!  First buy adding more pockets and then taking some pointers on ergos from Kriega!  The design of the new backpack is kind of cool but it doesn't look very functional for riding.

Really?  Gee, I haven't been in a mall in years.

What's a Luck Brand store?  Is that a typo for Lucky Brand?  What kind of store is it?

In any event, my point stands.  If one can't recognize a distinction between a bike t-shirt and designer luggage, so be it.  I can explain it to you, but I can't comprehend it for you.

Ya, typo for Lucky. It's like an expensive Gap...and has zero to do with motorcycles, other than paying to use the name.

I do get what you're saying, and I somewhat agree. I just think its stupid to say someone who buys a Ducati bag is automatically a douche though...it may be the only Ducati branded thing they own besides their motorcycle. Who knows. Tumi does make very nice bags, which last. I don't see anything wrong with getting one that says Ducati if you ride one.

Now if they don't own a Ducati then I'd probably agree they're a douche...just like the guy who bought his motorcycle shirt at Lucky but doesn't ride. Whatever though...we all have our opinions.

IMO, moto logo gear is fine in moderation and when on an item that is actually used with/on or worn while on a motorcycle.

Though I do have a nice H-D whiskey glass.

I say, moderation in all things is good, as long as you don't get carried away with it.

I was in the elevator leaving work one day.  A guy walked in with a Tumi/Ducati messenger bag that doubles as laptop bag.  I remember meeting him awhile back so I started a conversation.  Just to be friendy.  Just before the elevator reached the lobby, I asked if he rides a Ducati, pointing at the bag.  With a embarrassed forced smile, he said his wife bought him the bag becuase it's nice looking.  He then quickly rushed out of the elevator.

I didn't mean to call him out.  I was just being friendly.  Really

Also depends, he might have been a Ferrari racing fan. I know a lot of people that are Rossi fans. They wore Yamaha stuff and now Ducati. Does that make them douchebags?

Does a guy that owns a 98 Monster deserve to wear a Ducati shirt less than a guy that bought a DS16? What if I own a Monster and a trackbike? What level of douchiness is tolerable?

Yes, because it was "full regalia". He'd have been a douche even if he hopped into an F40 when he left. If it was just a racing shirt or something, then I'd say no.

That brought up a good point.  I posted awhile ago that I saw a fully decked out 848/1098 going down the street.  It was in full 2009 Ducati WSBK graphic and decal.  The rider had the Ducati one-piece leather and Ducati Arai helmet.  You would think it was a Nori riding straight off the track down to the street.

Of course, it was on NE 8th in Bellevue, WA during 5PM rush hour.  For those of you in the area, you would know traffic is moving at a snail's pace.  Douche?

I agree 100%.  As long as you actually own whatever-it-is you are promoting, I have no problem with anyone wearing a t-shirt (I have quite a few :)), or a hat, or carrying the luggage.

On the other hand, if you don't own a Ducati, or Harley, or whatever, then by wearing the shirt you would be a douche.

I'm reminded of back in the 80s when Vuarnet t-shirts were popular, but very few people wearing the shirts actually owned a pair of Vuarnet sunglasses (and many didn't even know they were a sunglass manufacturer).  I also had a friend years ago who was wearing an 'Eraserhead' t-shirt, and when I made a comment about the movie, he said he had no idea it was a film; he just liked the shirt.   ;)

It is Bellvue. There are a lot of douches there!!  It may have been someone from the Duc shop though test riding a bike they serviced?  ;)

Btw...regarding the Ferrari clothing. That is all you see in Italy! Its like Nike here. Was the guy Italian?  I saw semi trucks with giant Ferrari logos on them. They don't make big rigs, do they. Just supporting "the team" I guess?

Well, that's ok but the fact you rode an FXDX means you're a dirtbag.  Don't you know the old saying?  "Whats the difference between a Hoover and a Harley?   The Hoover has the dirtbag on the bottom."

[evil]

LOL - I have to admit that most of your posts give me a good chuckle...I'm still laughing at the frozen turkey comment on that other post.

You know... People who buy Ducati labeled stuff increase the cache of the bike and keep the company in the black.

Don't hate TOO much on them!
I doubt the clothes keeps Ducati in business.....Harley, that's entirely true.  Considering the prices for 1198's and hourly labor rates that beat Ferrari mechanics I'll bet that's the pot'o'gold.

Don't underestimate the labeling.  The Ducati store in Bologna sells a SHITLOAD of clothes -- not just t-shirts but full leathers, boots, kids clothes.

We raided the bargain bin the last time, they had just moved all the last-season stuff.  I got boots, half a dozen kids shirts, a boy's jacket, and a bunch more.

I don't know.  I sold my FXDX last year, but I still wear an H-D t-shirt from time to time.  I figure I have enough miles on an H-D to have earned a lifetime douche exemption, but I don't know.  I'll have to inquire with the douche review board.

I think if you used to own one, then you get an exemption.  :)

For my birthday my friend bought me a Ducati t-shirt...

His wife bought me a Starbuck's gift card...

She said I needed it to complete the douchebag persona*

*true story...   [laugh]

I have one ducati t-shirt my brother bought for me at christmas a couple years ago. He swore never to buy me another when the next time he came by the house and I was wearing it with the sleeves cut off.

I guess that makes me a dirtbag/douche combo pack
