Title: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: chiu on May 18, 2011, 06:32:47 PM Hi,
I am going to purchase a 1098s Ohlins front fork for my M796. As i know the fork for 1098S is 53-56mm and my M796 is 50-54mm, so i am going to find someone to help me to wear down my triple tree clamp to fit the fork. Anyone know apart from the diameter is different, any other parts i need to change to fit the 1098s fork on my M796? Is the axle and nut the same? All ducati brake calipers also are 100mm, right? Do i also need to change the fender?? Thanks. Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: Raux on May 18, 2011, 10:32:31 PM not sure you have enough material on your stock to fit the 56mm lower
plenty of people have bored the top for the 53. probably would be better to purchase complete upper and lower triple kit. I replaced it with an Style and Performance set, others have used IMA and I think there are a few more options. the axle and spacers are different, not 100% it's a different nut. best to get the axle, nut and axle spacers (1 of your old ones and one of the SBK is what i used but can't tell you which) the brake calipers are the 100mm mounts, but unless you use the 1098 330mm rotors you can throw away the 5mm spacers on from the forks if they come with it when you buy them. you'll need to change some things for the rotors. the 1098 have a 5mm per side larger offset so you'll either have to -get 5mm spacers with 5mm longer bolts to mount between your stock rotor and your stock wheel -get 5mm more offset rotors with the 6-bolt mount (very rare and hard to source 748R/998R rotors only) -get a sbk wheel and rotors Fender should fit. I think only the gas charged works type fork is different, but I don't have the Ohlins. More questions come, i knew that the offset is not same, so i am going to purchase both stock upper and lower triple tree clamp. And i will wear down the trip tree clamp to 53m mand 56 mm. Is the offset still different if i use the stock triple tree clamp? And i don't quiet understand the rotors part. Do i need to change the brake rotor. Any other method that i no need to change a new rotor? Thanks. Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: Raux on May 18, 2011, 11:15:01 PM not sure you understand the issue on the offset
i'm not talking about the offset of the triple why are you purchasing new stock triples? for the rotors they come in 3 types for different bikes 0mm offset for old monster 10mm offset for new monsters 15mm offset for superbikes there are some threads in the how to as well as accesories and mods to search for with photos etc Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: chiu on May 18, 2011, 11:34:24 PM not sure you understand the issue on the offset i'm not talking about the offset of the triple why are you purchasing new stock triples? for the rotors they come in 3 types for different bikes 0mm offset for old monster 10mm offset for new monsters 15mm offset for superbikes there are some threads in the how to as well as accesories and mods to search for with photos etc seems so complicated for me. I checked this out when I did my fork swap. Motowheels will refer you to an Aprilia dealer in Texas called AF1 & they sell a 6 bolt rotor spacers that are only 2.5mm so you need 4 of these & it will cost you about $110.00 for 4. Just google Aprilia forum & that will get you to there web site/store Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: 2-Skinny on May 19, 2011, 04:03:08 PM You can have spacers machined at a shop- sure to cost less than $110...
Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: chiu on May 19, 2011, 05:42:37 PM Any one know the upper and lower triple clamp of M796 is 50/54mm or 50/53mm?
Thanks. Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: 2-Skinny on May 19, 2011, 06:02:10 PM I would advise grabbing a pair of calipers to check your measurements and parts you get before you have machine work done, install, buy parts, etc.

hey new info check the rotor bolts on your bike. if you have 5 you might already have the 15mm offset needed... so no spacers apparently this is a 796 feature... sorry about that... that just was brought up in another thread. and i guess you might also want to check the lower triple clamp size since someone else is saying it's 53 Title: Re: 1098s front fork on my M796 Post by: chiu on May 21, 2011, 01:26:09 AM Chiu hey new info check the rotor bolts on your bike. if you have 5 you might already have the 15mm offset needed... so no spacers apparently this is a 796 feature... sorry about that... that just was brought up in another thread. and i guess you might also want to check the lower triple clamp size since someone else is saying it's 53 how i can check the bolts is 5/6? Do you the the 2011 version is 5/6? Cause my bike is in service till next weekend. So i can't check it now. Most people said the lower triple clamp is 54mm, so i not sure it's 54/53mm...... You'll need them to take a quick measurement and visual on the forks/wheels. The best thing at this point is to ask one of the dealers, Maybe Dave R from Ducati Seattle can get some specifications for us. If it is 53... i really do wonder if you'll have enough material on it to go all the way to 56 and keep the strength. Where are you located?
