Title: Duc Shop 853R Motor - What Would You Pay?
Post by: Triple J on May 20, 2011, 10:13:34 AM
Like the title says...what do you guys think this is worth?

It's a brand new, still in the crate, 853R motor by DucShop for a 748. I have zero idea what it is worth...anyone here?

It would go into my race bike, provided I could afford it and it didn't affect the classes I can run in (need to check).

anywhere from 2000-4000

i picked up a 996 motor for 1500 off craigslist.  obviously your 853 will probably go for more.

$1800-$3500 depending on how nice they felt like being and how many trick parts are in the motor...if it is built with a Corsa crankcase or a standard crankcase...what kind of rods and pistons...stuff like that...

The big bore parts alone are worth over a grand.

Did they put cams in too?

I'm trying to find out what exactly was done.

He paid just over $4k for the engine work when it was done by Duc Shop.

just a quick piece of food for thought...if this is built to be as high strung as I think, it may not have the longevity and therefore may not be the optimum purchase for you due to $$$ needed to rebuild after "X" number of hours/miles of use on the motor....

but that's normal for a race bike anyway

The 853 motors that were built by BCM have been extremely reliable.

I doubt DucShop motors would be any less so.

looks like it's going be out of my price range, plus it doesn't fit with any of the classes I can race in...unless I jump to the liter classes, which would be pointless.

Thanks for the input everyone...especially kopf! [thumbsup]

thing is unless you're out front winning I doubt if anyone would ask...  I agree about 2000-2500  how long has it been sitting?  Call Mark at DucShop and ask his thoughts about what should be done before it's run.   Main thing affecting value would be demand for such an engine.

True. I'd be interested in that range. He said he has almost 7K invested in it, so I don't think he'll let it go for less than $4k...if that. No idea how long it's been sitting...a couple years easy.

Cool engine - the 853 makes way more than the base 748.   Nash at AMS here the complete bike for sale with an 853 motor in it and it comes WITH a spare 853 motor.   Just to give you an idea of the market.

that's probably where this engine came from -- the bike was wadded before htey could use the spare engine

No. He had a 748R, and had this engine built to put in that bike. The 748 motor ran so well that he never did it though. He tried to sell the bike & spare motor as a package (I offered to buy just the motor a year ago and he said no)...but he recently sold the bike to someone who wants it as a collection piece so had no use for the 853 motor...so now he's trying to sell it.

I wish he would have sold it to me a year ago when I had the $$ on hand.  :-\

The bike here is a 748RS (853) w spare motor. Would make a 748R look like a turd.  All the carbon RS parts, etc.  But by the numbers, a 749S looks more appealing than a 748R
