Title: Advice requested Post by: racerx454 on June 23, 2011, 06:26:23 AM I am looking to purchase my first bike and thought I had found it when I discovered the bike has at least one glitch that I would like to understand before everything else is finalized.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v353/racerx454/Monster620042.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v353/racerx454/IMG_0051-1.jpg) 2004 Ducati Monster 620 Capirex (1600 mi): Issue is dent in gas tank to right of "DUCATI". My question for y'all is what should my expectation be regarding removal of said dent or repair of tank. This is not something I am going to attempt, so I plan on having a professional do the work if possible. Any recommendations on a dent removal company or bodyshop? Guess on cost? As a beginner, part of me thinks I should leave it as I might drop it and repeat the damage. However, I do need to understand the cost of repair and possible devaluation should I choose to proceed. My local mechanic buddy has not seen the bike, but suggested I go ahead and replace the tank (estimated $500, but that seems low to me). Thanks y'all! -Kevin- Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: KnightofNi on June 23, 2011, 06:33:49 AM new tanks can run up to $1400 i believe.
That's a brand new one from the factory, through a dealer. dent repair and repainting will prob be around $500 Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: the_Journeyman on June 23, 2011, 06:55:06 AM $2 fix. Looks good, adds character.

You are probably going to drop it and just make another dent. Ride it for a year and then when it is time to put the bike up for winter find someone who can fix it and give them the tank. $500 is about the norm.
Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: seevtsaab on June 23, 2011, 08:47:03 AM Yup keep the tank for now.
Very few miles, willing to bet the belts are original, get them changed asap. Cool bike. Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: Josh_357 on June 23, 2011, 09:04:34 AM I have a similar dent in mine, just on other side. I am planning on sending it to here. http://motorcyclepaintlessdentrepair.com/testamonials.html (http://motorcyclepaintlessdentrepair.com/testamonials.html) I did not get a quote yet though it'll be over the winter.

Very few miles, willing to bet the belts are original, get them changed asap. Cool bike. Thank you. When I saw the pictures for the first time I smiled (didn't see the dent until later, but it's a zit on a supermodel). I'm sure the belts are original. What will a new set of belts run, approximately? Thanks! -Kevin- Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: avizpls on June 23, 2011, 10:53:48 AM mid-range....$75?
About the dent though, every Ducati has that dent. Mine did when I got it and it still does! Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: redxblack on June 23, 2011, 11:14:06 AM The belts are around $50, plus labor. $75 is a fair ballpark to have them done. If you figure you'll probably want to get an oil change at the same time, it might be closer to $100-$125 out the door.
Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: AJ on June 23, 2011, 12:25:09 PM +1 to keep the dent for now, change the belts, change the oil.
I'm on my phone, so I could just be missing them, but it looks like the bike doesn't have frame sliders. Since this is your first bike, I highly recommend sliders. Looks like a really nice bike [thumbsup] Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: SacDuc on June 23, 2011, 12:30:23 PM A 2004 Ducati Monster 620 Capirex, huh? The dent may affect the aerodynamics of the bike limiting your top speed to a mere 139mph. sac Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: AJ on June 23, 2011, 12:59:06 PM A 2004 Ducati Monster 620 Capirex, huh? If you figure you'll probably want to get an oil change at the same time, it might be closer to $100-$125 out the door. $125.00 total for oil/filter plus belts, parts & labor? I'd say that is on the low side. Don't know about costs in the area where you live. [cheeky] Even if you spent $200.00 it would be well worth it for someone who knows what he is doing. Title: Re: Advice requested Post by: sbrguy on June 24, 2011, 09:41:25 AM i'm surprised those guys could get the pdr out of a ducati tank that is great work./
