Title: Monster 695 - Replace engine bearing needed ?
Post by: sl8tr on June 23, 2011, 06:34:12 PM
One of my main engine bearings appears to be crapped. Its scored and is pretty easy to poke around.
Does it need to be replaced asap or can I ride for a bit? I can't really afford the cost right now.
I assume this is the reason behind the noise in my engine that's been troubling me.

it will eventually destroy the race and the whole bearing unit will fail and can quite possibly cause very bad things.

how long before that happens is up to how hard you ride. How long do u plan on riding like that before u are able to replace it?

Was hoping to ride all summer.
I don't ride all that hard. Mostly commuting

Not sure what you're looking for but I have a 695 engine sitting around.  It's in mint condition and had 10K miles when I took my 08 695 apart.  Shoot me a PM and we can figure out a price that works within your budget if interested.

That would explain the noise.
Also explains the large amount of scrap on your drainplug.
Don't run the engine with a main bearing like that.
Engine locking up at speed isn't good, I've got a customer who can attest to that.  :(

Most economical to replace the engine as a unit, as MadDuc 20/20 suggested.

Thanks I sent a pm about the engine. I think I had this thing apart five time looking for the cause.

Figures it was the worst thing that could happen

I would not start the bike with it like that.  Caught early you can probably have that motor going again with just a new bearing.  Once it goes it'll probably dump so much crap in the oil that it'll do a tremendous amount of collateral damage.

I had a bearing go out on the output shaft of my old KLX 300...  when it finally really crapped out, the output shaft was split in half, both crankcase halves were trashed, and the first gearset was gone.  DO NOT ride with it like that.  You will find yourself needing a whole engine in the end if you do.

My old 750 was breaking the left side cover from a bad main.

I wouldn't ride it.

Its parked until the engine I bought from MadDuc 20/20 arrives and I can do the swap.
Going to drop the engine as soon as I can figure out how to support it while taking it out.
Thanks for feedback though
