I need to replace both modules since they were the cause of the lack of spark. Are there after market options or is Ducati NA the only source for them?
ignitech(or similar), dp modules, or OEM.
that's about it. used on ebay the oem modules are usually $150-$200 for the pair. sometimes you can find a bargin though
OK. I see that the dp modules are $233 each on the DNA website. Can they be had cheaper somewhere else? How much do the oems cost typically?
There are 3 different DP modules, depending on the curve you want.
You can poke around on fleabay.
The Ignitech runs about â,¬120 plus shipping.

I saw your post in the CAM section about ordering the ignitech system. My bike is currently at ducpond and they told me they are trying to source ignitor boxe without spending n arm and a leg for the OEM modules.

i've seen those, but what curve do they have?

Please bear with me as I ask the following questions. I'm trying to understand the purpose of these modules.
1) Do these modules control the firing of the coil, ie ot advances or retards ignition "firing"
2) If I choose a module(DP) that has a different curve than the OEM unit, is it a "plug-n-play" scenario or should other adjustments be made to the bike.
3) Can these modules be by-passed, ie can the motorcycle run w/out ignitor boxes
4) What are common causes of failure for ignitor boxes

1. Yes.
2. More or less plug and play, but if you pick something that has a hotter curve than the original, you should probably tune accordingly.
3. No.
4. Dropping them. Age. Electrical surge. Crappy original build.

No curve is published. They are supposed to be replacements, not "hot rod" parts.
I bet you could ask them and the would tell.
Ive used Electrexworld for these on 97M900. Slightly different resistance (higher if I remember) but no issues and great price and service.

I've seen a really high correlation between loose battery connections and dead ignitors.

I saw a bike destroy every box installed due to a missing engine/frame ground.

That's a strange one.
You'd think there would be enough of a ground path through the engine mounts.
Current for the starter motor has to travel somehow...
Powdercoated frame?

nope...
freshly painted.
No other cause was ever found.
It ate 4 of them before we gave up.
There was never any reason figured out
But with the engine-frame ground wire installed/attached, all was good?

The bike was disassembled.
