I was thinking the same thing when I found these pics!
What up with Adrien Brody? He's doing scissor kicks with the side-stand down?
The helmet that Jared Leto is wearing looks just like my whitewater kayak helmet. Great helmet for kayaking definitely wouldn't want to crash my motorcycle wearing it though.
I hear you about safety gear, it just amazes me seeing people in shorts and T-shirts riding around with no gloves to boot! I shake my head but at the same time wish they don't go down like that! They are after all grown ups and it is their choice. The Prince is cool, and down to earth, he refused to go on a honeymoon and instead went back to work flying SAR missions, he will make a good king! On another note, Tori Spelling's other half races races/rides track days on a Ducati.

Bloody Bono, no wonder he's just signing the bike not riding it.
PS: Please don't prove me wrong with a photo of him riding. I prefer to retain my Southpark inspired view of him ;D
This is pretty cool, for those who haven't seen it! If only I was really, really, ridiculously good looking. I could be a model, idiot.

Jared Leto looks like a douchebag.
So does Tom Cruise, though that is sort of inevitable.
Brad Pitt's bikes are tastefully, though slightly, modified. I approve.
I'd have never guessed that Fabio rides and owns a shit-load of bikes, but that's cool. I approve of this, as well.
I don't give a shit what Bono owns. He'll always be a tool.

Sorry, I didn't realize I was being graded.
Should I take out the apostrophe? Or perhaps I could change it to Ducato.
I'd hate for anyone to be kicked in the nads. Or testicles, as that would be the correct usage in that sentence. ;)

Years ago on MTV Sports, I believe..they showed Fabio and his bikes. He had a ton of 'em. I don't recall if he had any Ducs? There was at least 20 dirtbikes in his kitchen though! [laugh]
I like that fairing on Bloom's bike. [thumbsup]
I know Cruise is bad..at least he rides and works on his Ducs. Ryan Reynolds though..he gives Ducs a bad name. DOUCHE!! [thumbsdown]
What fairing is that on Orlando's bike.
eric dane looks like me at a stop light....cursing the bike to not stall, please do not stall...their are cars behind me, please dear italian gods of two wheels and expensive taste. still for some reason, i can't get this 100% of the time. gotta be above 2000RPMs to not stall...why this is, just makes things difficult. to me, the bike should start going enough to not stall without any throttle at all...especially at $10,000!
wonder what would happen if i used the "choke" lever to up the RPMs at a stop light(would be a pain) but maybe i wouldn't have to worry about using throttle? just a newbie thought....hahaha
go ahead, let me have it!!!

14T front sprocket.
Honestly...would this help me. This "problem" i am having is really affecting my enjoyment in riding this bike. i love this bike, i want to ride it, but the enjoyment factor is not there because i'm so worried about stalling. i can get it all day in a parking lot and then every now and then still, i will stale...at the most embarrassing times.
Would this change to a 14T front sprocket really help....can you give what it actually does in order to help me out. not really a gear head so i would love to understand why it matters to change to 14T....thanks by the way
It would help - but more gas is the solution. Just gas it man...

As Sad Panda said, more right hand and better clutch/throttle coordination is the main thing. However, if you are on a 696 and fairly new to riding, the $40 sprocket plus 1/2 labor is a big help. Have the dealer verify at the same time that your idle is set high enough as that can also be a factor.
The bikes are massively over-geared, presumably for noise (drive by) and emissions..., and/or for the Autostrada! There is a reason Ducati offer a 14T as an accessory. [roll]
Before ordering my 796, I rode a 696 demo with a 15T. It was silly how tall the gearing was with a bike with not a lot of bottom end. So, there was a 14T on my bike on delivery as I had done this on two of my Ducatis before. A 14T will also tighten up your other ratios a bit.
However, to get back to your question, launching will definitely be easier. It WILL NOT launch at idle though! ;) For that you may need a 1200...
thanks alot...i'm gonna do the 14t sprocket change. really appreciate all the advice and help on my questions and comments.

That Fabio clip was great. Bike hoarder is the word. Looking at the dirtbikes, they look like they were used some. Thats cool. I'll bet his friends love to visit him. I would expect Fabio to have all those bikes stored in some huge, eat off the floor like, garage. Not crammed in dusty garages and plastic tents.

It seems like the "Long Way Round" and "L W Down" cop lots of flack, but I really enjoyed watching both of them. I can see why hardcore adventurer riders might see it as very cushy having a support fleet and everything else, but it has definitely inspired me to go on my own adventure ride sometime.
And, with a hundred or so street bikes alone, I would love to see what Fabio pays for registration and insurance every year :o Maybe he gets a special rate [roll]

It might have been the recession or it might have been the fact that they have a certain clientele that doesn't love a Ducati, and they aren't know for managing their money well.

I knew Lyle is a motorcyclist but I never knew he was into Ducs. Of course with his cash he's probably into everything 2 wheeled.
I remember when I was in a Yamaha dealership in Houston shopping for some leather. I glanced across the showroom and saw someone that looked familiar. He noticed me glancing his way. He came across the room toward me and as he was walking I realize who he was. He came up to me and shook my hand. A really great guy. He is kinda the way Steve McQueen used to be; just another guy that liked/likes all things performance.
I bought a new Vanson jacket, Lyle bought the dealership. [laugh]
For anyone interested in Lyle Lovette's M900 shown above, here is an article from a few years ago.

nice article.
One of the first things to pop up after I subscribed to Lyle Lovett's Facebook feed was a mobile photo of a little brass numberplate with "916" on it -- apparently, he thought it was pretty cool to wind up with that room number at his hotel in Milan, and put it up with a "This one's for all the Ducati fans out there" caption.

$26 grand?! 'Paid 30' GTFO! Either Mr Bloom is that is the owner got ripped off or someone's out of touch. A brand new grand tour or Pikes Peak is MSRP of $22K. I see it has the full exhaust - but still not $30k new, nor $26k used.
And I can't find anything matching up to "Carbon fiber Ducati performance rear set,"

Agreed. I grew up in upstate NY which is an absolute shithole for motorcyclists for at least half a year every year, as is most of the rest of the United States of America. Personally, I think Southern California is the motorcycling meca of the U.S. We have some of the best roads in the world for riding and that is year round.
I'm a San Diego transplant who has lived and ridden here for well over 10 years.

I live in S.C, and I hate it for its lack of good roads for motorcycle riding. Curves are almost nonexistent. The only reason to ride in S.C, is to leave for some other state with curves. The night life in the Capitol city is lame. The restaurant selection is lacking compared to some other cities.
Due to family obligations and a new job (which I am looking forward to) I remain here.

No, but it helps to keep the dealer tag on it until you get the plates so that CHP or local PD don't pull you over for having no tags. At least with the dealer tag on it they might assume you just purchased it and are waiting for the plates in the mail. Can take 2-4 weeks sometimes but I've rarely had it take more than 2 personally and since I hate getting pulled over I always put the plates on as soon as I get them.
The paper in the window (on cars) is good for six months. People try putting dealer plates on and fake paperwork in the window all the time. They get to be pedestrians.

I'm not about to be a gear Nazi over celebrity pics.
I wear VERY different gear for very different things.
I may ALWAYS wear a helmet, and long pants, and boots, but my gloves and jackets vary GREATLY.
Not to mention these guys are pretty much always hounded by photogs - who knows what they are doing. Are the riding around the block test riding something? They're probably not out touring or getting ready for a track day in most of these candid shots.

I have ridden many times with less "stuff" on me ;D
If you use the bike as daily transportation, and you live in a relatively small city where typical commutes are in/around 2-3 miles, wearing Moon landing gear is not going to do it.
Or try to come off the beach, with 40C and buckets of humidity, and wear deep sea diving suit to go home, a couple miles from there.

I think I like it. I have been wanting something open faced for some time, and I had planned to pick up a Bell Custom 500, but after I had to sell my Sport 1000, I figured something too 'retro' would look out of place on the Monster. Whatever Mr. Brody is wearing doesn't look too bad.

Thought about a custom color-matched Davida for my T100 briefly, especially since the cute chick on their website on the round case looked hot and it DOES get rather warm here in the summer..., and then I remembered the bugs in the teeth, the hard-shell bug wounds, wasps, etc., etc...., and bagged the idea! http://davida.co.uk/ (http://davida.co.uk/)

From any hill in the upstate I can get beautiful mountain views. I can be in the mountains in 20-30 min depending on which way I take.

With the exception of the upstate region the rest of SC is as bad as columbia or worse. So istand by assessment of the state as dismal for MC riding.

That's a Diesel Hi-Jack helmet made by AGV. I bought one because I had been wanting something open faced for riding around town on hot days. When I still had my Sport 1000 I really wanted a Bell 500 because I loved the retro look, but I didn't think it suited the Monster, so I started looking for something more modern, and the Diesel Hi-Jack won. Sure, it isn't the safest or most practical helmet, and I won't be using it on the highway for several reasons, but it sure looks cool with the dark tinted visor pulled down. ;)

Which is totally fine, and yes, sometimes a big or small rock DOES HURT, but it's not a particularly big deal.
I've got an Arai Quantum which I've worn on and off (mostly winter and rain riding), but most days I prefer my AGV 3/4 (I do have a flip down visor on that which helps with unexpected rain or say a truck kicking up debris for a few miles) or my HJC 3/4.
But these days I don't spend a lot of time at 80 mph on any of our rides...
Oh, and of the THREE TIMES I've crashed in my decades of riding my helmets have NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND. That's not to say that it can't happen and I DO ALWAYS WERE ONE, but I'm pointing out odds. Hell, just look at the hurt report and you'll see odds are that in an accident when the helmet does hit something it will likely NOT be the face or chin.
Again, not saying it can't or won't happen, just that it's a calculated risk. You guys may decide to take more or less risks than I do, but I'm not gonna second guess your decisions. They may involve more speed, or more traffic, or ______________, but those are your calls.

Actually that's not what it says at all. It says your chin is the most likely place to impact. 19.4% of the time for the right side and 15.2% of the time for the left. The face is quite a bit lower, between 4% and 6% of the time, but still in the mid-range. The crown of your head and temples are the least likely place to impact.
To each their own...isn't my face!
Yeah, I used to ride with a guy whose friend lost half of his face in a wreck and did not die right away. That pretty much solidified my full face helmet wearin'. That said, I just moved my bike into our parking garage due to a storm at work, and it is oh so nice riding free like that... I totally understand not wanting to wear a full face helmet.

I disagree, it says the chin will only strike in 34.6% of the time meaning that 65.4% of the time it won't - i.e. that impacts, IF THEY OCCUR, will occur elsewhere.
And since those statistics add up to 100% they are NOT counting times when the helmet doesn't hit anything at all (like my 3 crashes).
According to that graphic if you crash, and your head connects with pavement: you have a 35% chance of it being your jaw. Those are pretty scary odds IMO.
That being said I'm a SOTGMOTT guy. I'll pop on a pair of goggles to go a few blocks for coffee, but if I'm going on the freeway I'll wear full face helmet and jacket. Only on a long tour will I wear gloves and very rarely will I wear special pants.

You need to re-read the Hurt report. It is absolutely in favor of full face helmets. Read all the notes, including more then just the helmet section. Your argument, to say that a 35% chance of impacting your face/chin isn't concerning, is laughable. That's some shit odds no matter how you look at it.

if you include the visor area and the small areas to the left and right of the visor it's a whopping 44.4% chance those areas will hit, if your noggin hits the pave. 44.4 is creeping up on a fiddy fiddy shot man.
And of the two close friends I know that have had offs, the both hit in those areas. As the last crash I saw (track) dude slid on his visor and chin bar quite well.
I'll keep my full facers.

I didn't claim the Hurt report wasn't in favor of full face helmets.
I also didn't say a 35% chance of impacting your face/chin isn't "concerning" - but thanks for the attitidue [roll]
I said those are odds, and that each person can analyze those odds for themselves and make their own decisions.
Take into account where you ride, how you ride, what you ride, even when you ride.
But let's remember that the 35% chance of an impact is what the Hurt report found WHEN A HELMET CONTACTS SOMETHING IN AN ACCIDENT.
So that 35% chance is not "my chance of striking my chin when I ride my motorcycle" it's the percentage chance of striking my chin IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND HIT MY FACE/HELMET on something when I do.
And the other factors I mentioned above all have a much greater effect on the "odds" of me having an accident, most especially riding sober.
In literally over 20 years and more than 250,000 miles I've had only 3 accidents (all involving compromised road conditions - 2 in rain, 1 on gravel) and in NONE of them did my helmet strike anything.
I'm not claiming that it can't happen.
I'm not claiming that there isn't a risk involved.
I'm simply saying make your own decision and live (or not) with it.
But please don't get sanctimonious about other's choices. Especially IF you don't ride ATGATT.
And let's all remember that the vast majority of the public thinks we are crazy for riding these things ANYTIME under ANY CONDITIONS, so their risk vs. reward analysis would still look a lot different from yours despite your FF helmet.

if you include the visor area and the small areas to the left and right of the visor it's a whopping 44.4% chance those areas will hit, if your noggin hits the pave. 44.4 is creeping up on a fiddy fiddy shot man.
Those numbers don't escape me, BUT BUT BUT - take a look at an open face (3/4 helmet, I don't wear 1/2 shells) they have a significant area protruding around the forehead and often cheeks which MAY prevent or minimize impact with a road surface. I know just from bumping my helmeted head on things when leaning in for a closer look (say checking something on a bike with the helmet on - or attempting to give my wife a kiss with the helmet on etc).
Granted uneven surfaces, rocks, trees etc can post a hazard, I'm just saying that again, the Hurt numbers don't tell the whole story.
Quote from: Slide Panda on July 10, 2013, 08:46:05 AM
And of the two close friends I know that have had offs, the both hit in those areas. As the last crash I saw (track) dude slid on his visor and chin bar quite well.
Notice you mention a track accident - good chance the speeds and conditions of that accident differ from what I tend to expose myself to on a regular basis. Again, not saying it can't happen, just talking about odds.

If you choose to wear other then a full face helmet, knowing you have a 35% chance of striking your face or chin IF your head makes contact with something during an accident, you surely aren't concerned. If it was 2-3% I could understand your decision, not when it's more then a third of the time.

Seems like all the celebs are riding their Duc from the showroom around town a few times and that's it. God knows Bieber probably hasn't ridden his 848 anymore.
i have to say I'm impressed with Justin Theroux's choose. It looks like it's actually ridden on a regular basis and all the mods are the kinds of mods well all tend to do, subtle for the most part. I really like the black Bipp in black on the front fender.

That's a 900. Wet clutch with a closed cover (you can tell by the shape), and it has an oil cooler which the smalled displacement bikes don't have.
I have a M750 with a oil cooler in that spot...Maybe I really have a 900? *hoping* cause it really feels like its smaller (the engine).
The 750 had a cooler too. You've got a 750
no...that is definitely a 900...looks like it might be a 2000 or a 2001...nice execution no matter what!

That oil cooler is the older style, so I think it is a 2000 or older, as my 2001 had the less boxy version.

Absolutely, wasn't intended imply anything else. I respect that it's an older bike with lots of good mods. Not a new one with nothing more than a set of new pipes if that.

personally, just because he has money, doesn't mean he has to spend it frivolously....look at the fact that he is riding a cool as hell nicely and subtley modded 13 yo M900 Dark...they could be knock-offs and it really wouldn't matter, because the end result is, he probably gets more smiles per dollar spent than most Celebs with Duc's...

Have you ever ridden a SBK on the street, especially an italian one? I'd take a Monster over a SBK for a street ride any day, no matter how much money I had! SBKs are great, but not on the street IMO.

Sure, and some can handle the quirks (uncomfortable, heat, etc) better than others.
Personally, I'd rather have something other than a SBK for pretty much any street conditions. The choice has zero to do with money.

For Justin (celeb) it wasn't a money issue. Probably not a commuter bike either........just a cool toy!! Maybe he doesnt have enough riding time to jump on to a SBK.
That said, I would rather ride a Pani up to StarBucks for that morning java than virtually any other bike out there.

The discussion around these photos is quite entertaining ... thanks. Since there seems to be a lot of speculation going on ... I'll add some more starting with the most likely explanation:
. the subtley modded, 13 year old Monster was bought as is (perhaps, only minutes before the photos were taken) - complete with rizoma/ebay-knock-off/painted-stock-pee-cup/darkest-fluid-in-desparate-need-of-a-change reservoirs
.. his SO bought it for him off craigslist and he is only riding it to stay in the good books
... the bike actually belongs to a member on here - and his SO had to make an indecent proposal to the owner so her man could take it for a spin (discretion being part of the deal)

Maybe the movie picked the Ducati because it is the coolest bike, but when they went to Ducati asking for $$ for advertising, they blew them off.
Do they covered the brand name in return :D
It's a spy bike. It has to be incognito! Would be totally cool if they put a Honda logo on it for camouflage.
