Option 2: left stock

i am wondering how many owners of pre 09 monster chopped the tail and how many kept it stock? and why? pros and cons?
Bought mine already chopped. If I had a choice, I would have left it. Pacific Northwest weather holds 5 months of rain and a chopped tail makes it not so fun.
Left mine unchopped, but deblinkerfied it using Barracuda's rear tail piece (http://www.monsterparts.com/p/DN6104A/Barracuda+Rear+Tail+Piece.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/p/DN6104A/Barracuda+Rear+Tail+Piece.html)) since I didn't like the bump outs on the stock beer tray. I also have the evotech fender eliminator (turned around backwards to make it harder for speed cameras to see), which doesn't seem to be on their website any longer, for my 07 s2r1k. Pros are it looks great and I didn't have to lop off the tail (although I still think about it regularly). I've also never seen the tail piece on another bike so it's still relatively unique.
Chopped the tail of my '00 900.
In Kansas, "rainy weather" is not a really huge issue.
Not chopped but deflectorized. I like the look of a well chopped tail, but I am an all weather rider and hate swamp ass.
Cut it just for cosmetic reasons. I don't have a problem with swamp ass and I too ride year round.
Mine's a more recent S2R1000 but I did not chop. Went with carbon (no mod) beer tray and Evoluzione plate holder. I'm 50/50 on chops. I like the look on some bikes, no on others. Me? I like the carbon beer tray/tidy plate holder look. I need a place to set my beer. ;D

+1 Went this route on my monster... [thumbsup]
Bought my S2R8 with the tail chopped, but came with the cut-off portion. Ran it that way for a while, but decided I like the stock look and re-attached the tail. Used the stock tray and signals for a while, then decided to go with the Barracuda tail and a Lightwerkes integrated. Painted the tail to match and found a really nice plate bracket on eBay. Looked pretty good IMO and havent seen another one like it around.

with a hugger and a proper tag mount, almost all of the swamp ass can be avoided with a tail chop
Sorta stock for me. I removed all of the crap underneath the tray and made my own aluminum bracket for my plate. I left the tray because I like the longer lines of the bike. The longer lines help balance the long conti mufflers. I thought about chopping but I also have DP bags and mounts. The bags are shaped to wrap around the turn signals. Maybe if I stop using my bike like a pick up truck, I will reconsider.

I chopped it during a "winter project". All it took was some tape and a hacksaw. I did it for looks.
chopped tail looks better without the windscreen.
full tail looks better with the windscreen.
my tail's chopped
I chopped it, I'm not much of a bad-weather rider. It just looks better to me, the huge plastic piece looks a little awkward. Maybe the shorter CF/painted versions are more appealing than stock, but the chop was what I went with.
Accidentally took a rainy-ride home this week. Thought the rain would hold out but it got me on the freeway. Backpack was hardly wet, so I still don't regret chopping it.
Chopped, 1 day after warranty was done.
Chopped the tail and chopped the termis too.
Chopped my 620's tail and stock cans, getting ready to chop my new-to-me S4R.

+1 on chopping the Termis too. They kinds stick out too far after tail chop goodness. Also, at least on my bike, they way better too!
Here's my before/after.

Bought mine used, already chopped. Saved me the time.
I've got a 2000 m900 and a 2001 m900, the latter chopped and the former stock.
When I look at the two of them together, I honestly prefer the stock look and wish I hadn't chopped the 01.
I think one thing to consider when deciding to chop is the length of exhaust. I think most stock length exhausts look too long on chopped monsters.
This forum helped me get the balls to chop the tail. I was ok with the beer tray but not the rest of the crap dangling under it. Just decided to rid all of it in one fellow swoop. Looks much better now. ;D
Chop chop away!
The monster is like 10 times more 8) with its tail gone.
Chopped tail and stock cans on my '01 M900S. Love the look and the sound [Dolph]
chopped the first day off I had.
and ps I am north of seattle.
Stock for me. Too much Fuzz in my area to mod the turn/signals etc...I don't see the tail section or turn signal while riding so f-it!
Chopped all the way for me, makes the monster look more slim and sexy. Also reduces some weight on the bike but its all up to the owner like they say whatever tickles you're pickle.
I chopped my old M1000 and got annoyed at having a dirty/wet back. But it looked cool ;)
I'm leaving my EVO stock but I don't think the tail on the EVOs look bad at all. Nowhere near as bad as the older monsters.
The more nakeder the betterer!! [thumbsup] Got the chop!! ;D

+11ty
I seriously wrestled with the thought of the impending Wheelbarrow Butt I was to incur with a tail chop and the length of my Remus Exhaust but I just hated that rear fender hanging there like a limp member. So I chopped it and am happier now. The next mod will be to either shorten my exhaust cans or replace with a Termi Shorty Exhaust.
Just ordered the evotech tail tidy fender eliminator today. Hopefully it brings more attention to my newest mod(sticker)!!!!
