Title: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: MonsterInDark on August 22, 2011, 03:28:55 PM Just interested as to what all you guys think about the new 848 evo and the new 1198....which one would you buy and why?
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: factorPlayer on August 22, 2011, 11:04:55 PM Both awesome bikes no question but the 848 EVO would be all I need and realisitically want. 1198 would be overkill for me, and probably for 90% of street riders. Still, the performance is there if you need it.
Some great color options on the EVO too. Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: rockaduc on August 23, 2011, 01:29:33 AM 848 evo. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: duclvr on August 23, 2011, 02:46:07 AM personally waiting to see the 848 streetfighter
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: dennisd on August 23, 2011, 06:24:49 AM Hell, the 848 is way more bike than 90+% of street riders can actually use. The main advantage the 1198 has, a very wide torque range (not that the 848 is any slouch in the torque dept, the 1198 will just have more everywhere in the RPM range). Torque is what you want in a street bike IMO.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: duccarlos on August 23, 2011, 10:05:40 AM The 1198 for the dry clutch. The Evo if you don't care about all that rattle goodness.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Duc796canada on August 26, 2011, 04:48:50 AM 848 EVO for me please! :) 5'9ish, 150+ some pounds. EVO is enough, I saw one at Local Club racetrack I visit here and fell in love. The bike sounds like it is not working at all, but that could have been the rider as well, super smooth! I would definitely have one for track only use.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: DRKWNG on August 26, 2011, 01:17:05 PM I'd much rather have the 1198 thanks. The Evo just doesn't have the "hit" that I need from a Ducati SBK.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: The Bacon Junkie on August 26, 2011, 08:54:30 PM 999!!! [evil]
Or, umm... the 848Evo ;D [bacon] Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: muskrat on August 26, 2011, 09:06:50 PM take her and ride the shit out of her

Out of pocket, after selling my Monster, including a 2,000 mile round trip to pick it up in 'Burque, buying Duck-Stew, Dusty, and SacDuc fish-n-chips and cheeseburgers at a pregnant dogin' Irish Pub (the waitresses wore these tiny little plaid skirts and garters [drool] ), was $2,500... (salvage title) It's biposto, 140 hp, looks and sounds like nothing else out there. [thumbsup] You'd never know it was wrecked. Near perfect. [thumbsup] Best part is, I got it inspected by Cali DMV and they gave me a clean title for it! 8) [Dolph] Oh, wait... sorry for the threadjack... :-\ [bacon] Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: He Man on August 26, 2011, 09:44:52 PM 999, or if you gave it to me for free 1198, but if we have to play by the rules and i had to buy it 848EVO
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on August 27, 2011, 08:00:33 PM 848evo, perfect street bike that can go to the track and rip shit up.
1198, perfect for pulling hard in the straights and slamming on the brakes in corners (where the 848evo will probably catch you and sail past) dont get me wrong. The 1198 is an amazing bike but for us mortals the extra power is just that, extra. 848evo is very capable, you will not be dissappointed. also, 999R Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: IdZer0 on August 28, 2011, 02:22:35 AM 848evo, perfect street bike that can go to the track and rip shit up. I just switched from a M695 to a 848 EVO and as everybody says it's more than enough for the street. I haven't been to the track yet, but I think it 'l be great there too. What I wanted is more torque, better brakes, and different ergos. It has it all but the brakes are awesome (even a bit more than I bargained for to be honest). A 1098 or 1198 would be just too much. I was doubting between a 848(EVO) or a 999; when I did a demo ride I was not impressed with the torque of the bike, but I bought the Termi slipons (ECU not installed yet) and now I'm happy. I can't understand that just the slip-ons make such a difference (or was there something wrong with the demo bike, I don't know). The Evo if you don't care about all that rattle goodness. +1 although even an 848 is total overkill for me Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Monsterlover on August 28, 2011, 04:35:45 PM I picked up my '05 999 for $5,000. (in '05 they put the "S" motor from '04 in the base model [evil]) [bacon] Actually no. . . they just switched where they measured the hp output and got a bigger number. Also, there's a sweet 999 in the classifieds with an excess of bad assness ;D Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: DRKWNG on August 28, 2011, 05:56:22 PM Also, there's a sweet 999 in the classifieds with an excess of bad assness ;D Kev, I want that bike. But... I'd have to trade you a Sport Classic with equal amounts of bad assness for it. Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: The Bacon Junkie on August 28, 2011, 06:04:10 PM Actually no. . . they just switched where they measured the hp output and got a bigger number. Also, there's a sweet 999 in the classifieds with an excess of bad assness ;D According to Duck-Stew and the little "S" that shows up on the display when I turn the key, I've got the "S" motor in it... But who knows, maybe they're wrong. ??? That being said, it's still got more power than is useable on the street, and it's comfier than a 998. ;) [bacon] Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Monsterlover on August 28, 2011, 06:21:39 PM Your bike says "S" when you turn the key? Never heard of that (on a base model)
Im going by what DucVet told me. . . Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: DRKWNG on August 28, 2011, 06:28:13 PM The '05s and later did have the deep sump motor.
Still want yours Kev. :D Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Monsterlover on August 28, 2011, 06:30:30 PM Write the check mang, I'd even consider delivering it.
Maybe. Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: rideserotta on August 28, 2011, 06:42:55 PM 848 EVO... I'd kill myself on an 1198. Wait, I'd proly kill myself on an 848 EVO!
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: meanmonster on August 28, 2011, 08:19:47 PM I just sold my 09 1100S monster and bought a 2011 848 Evo. It's more then enough bike for the street (or track for that matter). Great bike.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: The Bacon Junkie on August 29, 2011, 05:33:06 AM Your bike says "S" when you turn the key? Never heard of that (on a base model) Im going by what DucVet told me. . . Ya, when I first turn the key, the display shows 999[/b with the "s" next to it... I thought I remembered seeing/hearing/reading something about the hot motor in the biposto only coming in the gloss black? But that's most likely just my imagination.. ;) [bacon] Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Monsterlover on August 29, 2011, 05:36:29 AM Don't know why they'd do that when red is the faster color. Sometimes Ducati just does things that don't make sense.
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: take risks on August 30, 2011, 08:01:28 PM 848 hands down.
I personally think liter bikes are pushing it, and anything over a liter is just gross. Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: MadDuck on August 31, 2011, 08:42:56 AM I've been riding an 848 for 13,000 miles. Got enough time on the bigger motors too. If you have lots of traffic and tight twisty roads then the 848 is the bike. Wide open spaces & roads less traveled, wider corners, then the 1198. Keep in mind that the 1198 is a very serious machine and may possibly be one of the overall harder bikes to ride that you could get. Beware of that siren song. [Dolph]
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: duc996 on September 08, 2011, 02:12:44 AM For me i think the 848 would be enough...might not even be able to maximize it ;D
Title: Re: 848 EVO or 1198 Post by: Adamm0621 on September 08, 2011, 10:33:15 AM I'd have to go with the 848evo...dark of course. But I don't think I could sell my Monster. Hey... I just paid off my car... maybe I should get another bike?
