I am actually driving down to the Jersey Shore this weekend to spend some time with the family. My bike is down there. I am planning on taking her out tonight and tomorrow morning before the crap hits the fan. Need to get some steaks, charcoal for the Weber, and beer to ride this out.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that when I saw where you said people were headed this way from all the way out there.
I've been here for hurricanes worse than what this one was predicted to be before it died down, and I can't remember anything like that for those.
with any luck it will take the nation's capitol off the map
we need divine intervention at this point
I do see the eye sitting right on the Outer Banks right at this moment according to radar pictures

OMG!!!! I don't understand why people are freaking out so much. I went to the store last night to get some ice cream at 11pm and it was crazy. There were at least 100 people at the store all buying water, milk, bread, and canned tuna. Are they really going to sit at home drinking milk while eating a tuna fish sandwich?
Do people really not have food in their pantry to sustain them for 2-3 days if the damn world ending hurricane hits? [bang] A bag of rice or pasta... an old can of beans?!?
I have prepared for this storm New Orleans style

On a tangent, I've always wondered why people buy milk before a storm. If they lose power, how long do they think that shit's gonna last?

Stick a few bags of ice in your freezer. Keeps your icebox and fridge cold an extra 5-10 hours depending on your freezer. Also, filling up your fridge as tight as possible holds cold. Best thing to put in your fridge is a case of bottled water.
We had the power go out for 12 hours. The fridge stayed cold. We keep those blue ice things in the freezer and just moved them up to the fridge. Of course, now we have a generator. Just yank and go.
My parents in Connecticut were laughing at all the media hype...
My dad went to Costco to get pick up a prescription (not to shop for tuna and milk) and said people were just pushing others out of the way to get their shit and get out. [roll]
He filled up a bunch of gallon sized Ziploc bags and chucked them in the freezer. My Mom stayed home and made a big pot of gravy and meatballs. [drool] They are ready for a few days of not leaving the house. [thumbsup]
[bacon]
I got canned milk incase power goes out for the baby.. some bread and tjats about it.. got enough in the house all ready.. oh n caronas.. at work today, min you I qork outdoors a lot, I passed by Duane Reed to pickup some touthpain medicine for the wife and the line was wrapped around the store..
it's a french toast party. that's why they buy bread milk and eggs
Power is out here in noVa.
Generator is running.
The trees are leeeeaning but I think the worst is passed. Wind seems to be dying down.
Milk and eggs are fine.
Power is on here in Moco. Freaky.
I'm celebrating the storm of the century by going to see the Aryton Senna movie with some friends this afternoon. [thumbsup] [Dolph]
I think the national hurricane center and the Weather Channel use the same meteorologists we have here in Dallas/Ft.Worth. Every time there is a "major" storm brewing (and it doesn't matter if it's a winter or summer storm!) they act like it's the end of the world and stop all normal TV programming for hours on end to show you radar loops and tell everyone to take cover. You'd think a tornado like the one that hit poor Joplin, MO happened here about 10-15 times a year! [bang] You keep yelling wolf over and over again at some point folks are just going to stop listening. And the one time when they really do need to take cover, get milk and tuna sandwiches, etc. they won't even bother turning the TV on because they know the TV weather depts. will just preempt all their favorite shows! [roll]
This guy.... the road was flooded already, and he just had to get to Wendy's. Probably the only road flooded in the area.

nope the entire parking lot was flooded.
Power went off here at about 330 AM and finally came back on around 3-4pm. We left to to go to my son's birthday party, but it was easily 12+ hours of no juice.
We're going to get a full house generator before winter. It's ridiculous how much the power goes out.
You should give me the generator you have now. ;D

You don't want it. It's just a pos 900/1200 w that I bought from Harbor Freight about 10 years ago. I jury-rigged a bypass on my breaker box so I can plug it right in. I have it going into the circuit for the fridge and for the furnace fan. Doesn't help in summer cause the ac compressor needs about 30 amp but in winter, the gas furnace just needs about 4-5 amps to blow and the fridge only needs 6.
My bypass cost me $5 to make and takes no time at all.
I'd be happy with something that will keep the beer cold.

Pick up a few bags of ice and a large bucket.. fill with salt, water and ice.. it will stay cold for about 2 days.
