UPDATEWe're meeting this Saturday, October 1, at 10:00 at the 7-Eleven in Fort Washington. The address is: 9413 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744-4917. I'll be departing Arlington sometime after 9:00, so send me a PM if you want to commute together.
From there, area road guru, Lars, will have us zig-zag for 2 +/- hours northeasterly. Our destination is
Charm City Mods vs Rockers (http://www.charmcitymodsvsrockers.com/) where we we'll meet up with some Baltimore brethren. Lunch is TBD at the moment but Ted proposed grilled bacon at his place, and MvR should have vendors (and nearby restaurants).
There is an optional northerly route for those wanting more miles at a
friskier TBD pace. I'm pretty sure Ted has signed up to lead that after lunch. For those running short on time, I'll lead a contingency back to DC mid afternoon.
Dress Warm... Bring Cash... Eat Breakfast...
For those in DC/Arl/Alex - a group of us are meeting earlier at Best Buns in Shirlington Village. Meet at 9:00, with stands up at 9:30. The address is: 4010 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA 22206 (right next to Carlyle Grand Cafe).
I would be interested.

Sounds like a nice idea. I used to organize these on DCsb.net when I had the time, count me in! I might even convince my wife to 2-up again. [laugh]
I could be down for a Saturday if I'm not being bossed to do something else.
Sundays are generally reserved for the rowdy retard run from the popo ride. [laugh]
I forgot to add that I'll ride sweep and pick up the parts that fall off Pepe's 750 adventure bike. ;D ;D ;D

Rode River Rd all the way up to Whites Ferry (including the gravel part) and then around Sugarloaf Mtn. (twice!) Good fun! [laugh]
I'm interested. After the last day I've had... I could use a little R and R. Keep me tuned it - I'm a maybe as I'm going to be dealing with water issues as resulting repairs shortly - but there's no timeline yet.
I'd be interested. Might even get Pilette to come along. Could y'all tollerate it if she rode the duc and I were a buell? :o Only reason I wouldn't show would be a schedule conflict, which with my work schedule isn't unlikely. I'm out of town this weekend (not work!) and the next two weekends (work:( ) as well. After that I should be in town and hopefully not working weekends, but one never knows...
That means 3 weeks for you? That's getting to be leaf peeping time.
And she'd be welcome even with you... She's got the duc right? You're just an infidel really.
Yeah the first weekend I could potentially be free is Oct. 1-2, but don't feel like you've gotta schedule around me. It isn't uncommon for something to happen on a friday afternoon that then spoils my weekend, though chances are I could sneak out for the ride on Sunday.
The wife is the one with the M620, though I've been known to borrow it with great frequency lately while my TL has been down for a refurbishing.
Assuming all goes well with the buell acquisition tomorrow I could even put on the bags and tote drinks/snacks and stuff [laugh]

Please visit http://www.doodle.com/3brq3gcq4st2qnz8 (http://www.doodle.com/3brq3gcq4st2qnz8) and select all days that work for you. I'll use this to figure out when we'll have critical mass. I've left off some dates due to prior commitments and/or potential trackdays.
Done, though my work precludes a hard commitment.
Done...with the caveat that I may not ride the day before a track day depending on what time the leaving is happening.

I'll need help putting together some roads over/up there.
I'm leaning towards meeting in DC and Bowie, riding a little bit of the Sunday haunt, and turning north towards Balmore. We can Mod vs Rock for a while, and I can lead a crew back into DC. I'll also have a couple of jumping-off points if folks want to peel away.
I'll post the route as we get closer to the date. And, as always, I'm wide open to suggestions.

I'll shoot you a Google Map here shortly.

Hmm... that's looks like a nice route. Is it doable with a relatively large group (5-10 riders). Can you recommend any roads leading up there from the south or west? We could come in from the south (Bowie, Crofton, Annapolis) or from the west (Eldersburg, Sykesville).
I'll be frank - I'm a bit concerned with how "to get there from here" given time constraints, and prefer to spend more time on backroads.
It's my classic dilemma. Between DC and Baltimore there are good roads, but they don't link together at all and it's like 5 or 6 good corners surrounded by straight lines and traffic. I can build a loop that goes around to the west but there is really nothing worth riding to the south. I usually just slab it in between to get through that area.
Here's the updated map with the addition of a possible western route. http://g.co/maps/7uxqj (http://g.co/maps/7uxqj)
You can't get a GREAT ride without going a bit further north on the west side, but that would be a pretty long ride. If you head in from the west and hit the original loop you can go south to keep it short or north for the better roads.
What about from Bowie on up? Anything decent to that?
Having going from NOVA to Balto... yeah it can suck ass in a number of sections. It's hard to link the two w/o highways or slabs.
Lars might be able to get a route close to 695 and folks can head around the east side of balto beltway (toll sucks [bang]) but that probably minimizes slab time.
Paging Mr. Buell. Paging Mr. Buell.

The issue is the area between Bowie and Baltimore is densely populated. You can cut slab time, but you're trading it for congested surface streets with red lights. I've tried for years to find something worth riding down there, and honestly haven't found more than a handful of roads that don't string together. Some of them are even great at night with some good turns, but during the day are choked with traffic.
We need an elevated m/c road from Bowie to Balmore. Any local politicians on the board?
If we do this Mods vs. Rockers thing it looks like the best ride will be from the west. I'll work on a route this evening.

Fort Washington to B-more, less than 5 miles of highway. no problem.

91, Trenton, and Mt. Carmel are kinda meh and can have a bit of traffic on them. Belfast/Sparks/Carroll/Phoenix are a lot twistier and even include a jump lol.
I also added the northeast "bump" onto the route as it hits quite a few fun roads, including Grier's Nursery, one of my personal favorites in the area. It adds 30 miles but I'm up for it if you kids are.
I think between these suggestions you can come up with something pretty fun Brian.

So far so good on my schedule. A friend might come along too. Any idea what sort of start/finish times and places we are looking at? If its to be a sorta-short ride my friend and I might do a second loop somewhere before or after.

I'll be posting an update later this morning or early afternoon. Ted, keep an eye out for a PM...
My understanding of the plan is that we ride up, hang for a while appreciating young ladies in pin-up-esque attire then ride off into the sunset to potentially extend the route north for those that are interested.
I may have convinced the missus into coming out for the event, so if we ride afterward I just have to drop her off before we hit the northern route. I live about three miles from where the roads get good so it wouldn't be a big detour.
Actually, brain lightning - Would you guys be interested in a cookout at my place after MvR and then a northern route ride?
Okay sweet. I may be down for some bbqing afterwards too.
Bump for an important update - see the OP for details (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=52192.0).

I am in fact volunteering to lead the later ride. I was thinking BBQing at my place around 3 or 4 (depending on what all is going on at MvR) if people are interested, otherwise we can just grub at the event.
If Ms. Artful decides to come along I will just have to go by the house to boot her off the bike so I can go ride the northern roads. The pace on the northern route can be tailored to the attendees, it doesn't have to be full on ham sammich.

While I will not be there a pal of mine and Nathan riding a black GT1000 will be meeting up with you guys in Ft. Washington.
I knocked out a ton of work, should be there. A friend might tag along with me -- he'll be on a BMW 1200GS or a Honda 919 (looks sorta like a monster :P). Super cool guy (i.e., not a typical beemer rider [cheeky])
Well, I was hoping to take my Buell, but since it isn't a static display , it needs a few things.
I have a conference call at 845 am on Quantico tomorrow morning (should go till 915ish) so catching everyone at Shirlington will be a stretch. Where is the next meetup place?
I'll be there. Might have a buddy on a superhawk show too.

Saw dem newb riders up at MvR, hon. Lars looked cold but <3's his new KTM. Jim had some new styling on his Triumph.
Ted - you left too early! I think your bike won 2nd place in the euro class. [laugh]

Haha if my bike won anything I feel sorry for those guys that spent all that time polishing those old airheads. Good time had by all, ride afterward was cold but enjoyable.
Ya, thanks to all who made it out! Sorry we missed the rest of you! We'll plan the next ride when the weather is turning warmer (not cooler).
Lars, thanks for leading us through MD. Excellent route! Nice to meet the new guys! Hope to see you out at a weekly evening meet-up.
Had a great time, thanks everyone [thumbsup]
I really enjoyed the outing - lots 'O loud bikes and fun. Looking forward to the next outing.

I know the guy with the /5 (cream colored), that thing always looks like it rolled of the showroom floor. His every day ride is an R100RS and it looks almost as nice.
The costom cafe Guzzi would've been my choice for first, hand down
Not that Ted's bike isn't, well, special in it's own way. Like a cute retarded child

The cream Bimmer left before the judging I believe and the green Guzzi was in a different class. i basically beat a ratted airhead, three pristine R75s (I think...) a Ural, and a Duc thumper.
My bike is a special kind of special :)
Copied here from the ride this weekend thread to see if any newbs are interested.
MoCo and Frednick towards Harpers Ferry, stop there for lunch then head back (about 2 hours each way -- fo realz yo! not like some other guy [cheeky] [laugh] ). Meet at 9:30 at the Starbucks near Falls Rd. (189) and River Rd. (190), stands up by 10. There's a gas station there if you need, BTW. PM me if you need my cell#. Newbs and Noobs are more than welcome, I plan to ride a pretty chill pace.
definitely interested - Saturday or Sunday?

Sorry, forgot to specify. This is for tomorrow, Saturday Oct 8th.
I'm definitely on for tomorrow and I might bring my brother who rides an FZ1. And it's supposed to be 20 degrees warmer than last weekend ;D
