Title: Which mirrors should I get?
Post by: jsriley on September 09, 2011, 10:12:19 AM
Hey guys,

Looking to replace the stock mirrors on my 2011 Ducati Monster 696 Dark Stealth. Having trouble deciding between the following. Anyone have any of these are can recommend which looks that best.

Rizoma Reverse Retro
Rizoma Prototype Naked
Rizoma Tomok
Rizoma Spy R

Thanks

I don't like the Tomok.
I wouldn't get the Spy, because they're too wide and too large visually.

I think the Reverse Retro looks great and the functionality is good.
Only reason for me not to have those is that they take my helmet hanging position and maybe because I don't like bar end mirrors that much - the look of something popping up out there.

So, I'm replacing my Impulsive with new Prototype.

If you need good rear view (6 o'clock), like I believe the 696 mirrors are, you can buy Prototype Sport which are about an inch wider.

I've demo'd both the spy r's and crg's. Spy R is much better

Reverse Retros. Look great. Eliminate all the vibration. Well made.

I have the Reverse Retro and love them.  They are well made, you get very good view especially for how small they are, and no vibration.  They also cleaned up the look of my EVO quite a bit.

had reverse retros on my last bike.  look the deal and very high quality but pretty worthless field of vision due to glass not being convex and super super small.  couldn't see crap but i looked good doin it (or not seein it).  but i don't know if i looked good cuz i couldn't see anything in my mirrors but i may have looked cool.  i dunno.   [coffee]

reverse retros look the best (i have them on now), but the field of view depends on how you orient them...

pointy sides facing in, you'll only see to the left and right of you.  pointy sides facing out, the field of view gets a lot better and you can see behind you too.

i had them originally facing out, but i'm testing them out facing in right now because it makes it a lot easier to fit into tight spaces.

CRG's are nice and good quality but there are lots of cheap knock offs that look like them. Of course they wont hold up like them. The thing I like about the Rizomas is that you cant find cheap knock offs that look like them. And the quality is definitely there.  [thumbsup]

I've posted this pic elsewhere, but it shows how I mount my Rizomas, which I love btw.

The way I have them mounted is the only way I can lane split in really tight spots without clipping car/truck mirrors AND still see behind me (though I do have to drop my head a bit to see behind.

Well I'm returning the Spy R mirrors I got tomorrow. There are incredibly small. Slightly bigger then a half dollar. I think the are more to keep the bike legal than to use to see.

I'm good with the Spy-R.  :o I like a low profile mirror and all I really need is to get a good idea of whats behind me in addition to throwing a look over the shoulder. After going a couple weeks with no mirrors I got used to depending on the over the shoulder check to get by. You shouldnt ever only rely on mirrors as no mirror shows you everything. Its true at first the Spy-R seems small compared to a previously larger mirror but you get used to it. In the world of getting your bike naked the Spy-R are pasties while most other mirrors are somewhere between a Tee-shirt and a turtleneck sweater!  ;)

Yeah man. The spy-r's are great. I mean, I feel like everyone who buys them knows what size they are before they pay.

I don't just rely on my mirrors but I want to have a mirror that I feel comfortable using.

I'm thinking of going with the prototypes, elisse or retros. Probably going with the prototypes.

Anyone have any experience with them?

If rizoma makes it, then it will be of high quality.

All their mirrors are vibration-less and are made with the utmost precision.

I love the look of the R-Retro's

However, the rear visability does concern me & keen for thoughts also...
