Title: Bronzed frame Post by: Travman on January 03, 2012, 10:55:57 AM Take a look at this frame. It has been plasma-arc sprayed with a thin coat of real bronze. Has anyone ever heard of this? Any information about this process would be appreciated.

Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: rgramjet on January 03, 2012, 01:19:58 PM A copper plated, patina'd frame with rattle can flat black everything else would be rat-o-licious!
Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: rgramjet on January 03, 2012, 01:21:43 PM A copper plated tank would be cool too!
Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: ducatiz on January 03, 2012, 01:29:52 PM y'all have some weird taste, but hey.. it takes all kinds...
copper tank would remind me too much of an old time toilet float Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: Travman on January 03, 2012, 03:50:16 PM Bronze..? Green oxidation is what I was wondering about. Maybe they have thought of that and it is clear coated over the bronze layer. No one told them about verdigris? it's going to look weird in a few months... Edit: I did just read that people who have done copper tanks had to have them clear coated within a few hours to they wouldn't tarnish. Perhaps the builder did something similar for the bronzed frame. Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: Travman on January 03, 2012, 04:05:44 PM A copper plated tank would be cool too! What I like about this bronzed frame is the subtle/subdued look. You don't notice the coating until you look at the bike for a minute. Copper on the hand is very bold. It is similar to using chrome because it is so shiny and bold. Jesse James and others have done copper tanks on their bikes. Have you gotten that far?And yes, I am looking into this as a Winter project ;D Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: ducpainter on January 04, 2012, 08:47:27 AM Quote The decorative metal spray process consists of fine metal powders mixed with binders, resins, adhesives and hardeners to make a sprayable liquid that creates a metal coating that is both beautiful and durable. From their site...The industrial spray process uses an electric arc inside a spray gun to melt metal wire; high pressure air forces the metal particles onto surfaces to create a strong layer of metal that can be machined, plated, or to apply a protective corrosion control coating. One specialty is to restore old automobile pot metal for re-plating. I'm thinking you want the industrial process. Otherwise it's just paint. Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: Drunken Monkey on January 06, 2012, 12:16:49 PM You got something against paint? ;D
I've seen both and they both look good. But yes, I'm looking at the arc method... Title: Re: Bronzed frame Post by: BlackKat on January 07, 2012, 04:10:30 AM I'm at a point when I need to decide what to do on my frame...Paint? Powder coat? There really is nothing to be done that hasn't been done..but that's friggin cool!
