I want it to be loud as I ride on us19, one of the deadliest highways in the US. These selfish a-hole FL drivers need all the help they can get when it comes to noticing a motorcycle next to them. Plus it'll sound sick ;)

My camera actually records a decent quality sound and if you have good computer speakers(5.1 with a subwoofer) it gives a pretty damn close representaion of actual sound. The pipe arrives on the 14th and of course I'm on duty that day so I'll post a video on the 15th. [beer]

What I like of it, beside the shorty dimension and the sound, is that the vanilla/plain one has some yellow-ish tint which blends very nicely with the headers.

Ok I just got off duty and I had a nice little package from UPS waiting [cheeky]Yay!

Wow is all I can say....Not only is it way lighter and just flows (looks wise) with my factory headers (I polished them) but the single sided swingarm can now show off its beauty and man does it sound NASTY! I recorded a HD video of the stock pipe, no pipe, and the Compwerkes. I came inside and uploaded them to the computer and even with my sound card and 5.1 surround it doesn't even come close to the true color/sound of the exhuast note. So its not a great representation of the sound...It sounds soooooo good. I'm having a buddy come over later to film me from his truck while I'm on the bike so you can hear it under load and I'll do some drive-bys and downshifts. So check here tonight for a video. [beer]

Sounds awesome dude. I was very close to ordering this pipe for my evo. I just couldnt get past the look of it. I ended up with the spark system.  But yours sounds great.

Fireman, about ready to pull the trigger and purchase, you have had time to evaluate, how much does the decel popping increase over the stock exhaust?

I would say its hit or miss. I notice it if I use engine braking in 2nd or 1st gear but I usually clutch and brake as I'd rather wear on brake pads than clutch and engine parts. That is of course unless I have to stop very quickly. And of course the popping is more pronounced as the pipe is now louder so I didn't notice as much as the stock cans. It doesn't bother me but I still want to dyno to see if its running lean. I didn't change the air filter so its getting the same amount of air in but is getting the air out faster through the new pipe so one would assume it is running rich which it already does from the factory so if im wrong then it should balance out slightly.

If I had the coin I would have gone for the termis but I don't have $2500 to blow so if these don't work out Ill sell and go for the spark/ecu system. As of now the bike runs fine with no lugging or anything and accelerates hard so I'm not going to discount this pipe until I get dyno time. [beer]

Same here Fireman, I've been saving for the Termi's but other things keep taking priority.  After looking at your video and how nice it looks on your bike, I have the same Evo, I ordered the Carbon Fiber CW version.  I'm very excited about getting that huge exhaust off the bike.  Worse case scenario is the same as yours, if it doesn't work out I'll be looking to the Sparks or saving for the Termi's...thx for the video and info, hopefully it won't take too long to get here!!!

PS  Not trying to threadjack but I just got a recall for our bike today, 2011 and 2012 Evo...rear rim prone to the spoke's cracking and they are gonna replace the rear rim with a new one with higher specs....stay safe Sir

Post lots of pics. And yeah I mentioned the recall to my dealer and they knew about it but were waiting for replacement parts to arrive and would call in affected owners.

How many miles you have on yours? I brought mine home from the dealer jan9 and I just hit 1300miles lol. It really smoothes out around 1000mi. The gearbox felt silkier at 600 miles as well when the dealer did the 1st service and replaced the oil with amsoil.

Ear plugs? Is it really THAT loud?

Yes lol. It has a drone(no db killer) at cruising speeds. I ride with a ipod and its fine.

I'm only around 1,500 miles on it...  I got mine right at the end of the year.  I fractured three fingers on my right hand at work so I've been on light duty and unable to ride.  Had my Ortho appointment yesterday and he cleared me to start working out again.  It's been since January 22nd....so getting the new exhaust may just coincide with my first ride since my hand is better!!!!!

And yes, I'll post some pics!!!  It's been torture having the Evo just sit there these last two months!!!!!

Well if you put the removable DB killer option in it it will be bearable and shouldn't be an annoyance.

The build quality on the exhaust is amazing.  It is ridiculously light, 9 pounds lighter than the stock per the CW website.

I have to say I am beyond thrilled with the exhaust.  After cleaning the bike I fired it up and my neighbor across the street came outside and said "that scared the crap out of me, it's loud as shit!!!"

I haven't put it through it's paces yet, but I can't wait to.  Thanks to Fireman for bringing this to my attention!

Thx and it is loud...gonna give it a little bit and decide if I should add the silencer for $35.  It sounds and looks amazing tho!  I would not change my decision in regard to purchasing it.  The rear of the bike looks so much cleaner and it brings a huge grin to my face when the bike roars to life :)

Have had the CW slipon on for 400 miles now and the decel popping is excessive. Installed the db killer and it has eliminated 95% of the decel popping and has smoothed out the low end significantly.

Anyone did any mods to air filter and/or ECU when running this one?

Alright...these videos are less than thrilling but using the same sound meter at the same distance in the same circumstances I recorded an Idle of approximately 112 Decibels with no insert.  With the insert installed at idle the reading was approximately 100 Decibels.  A 12 Decibel reduction is pretty significant.

Installation was extremely simple and took only a few moments and did not require you to remove the exhaust, simply remove three screws, apply the insert and put the screws back in place.

I have yet to take it for a ride but will be tomorrow when I go to work.  Don't get me wrong, the exhaust sounded great without the insert but it made earplugs a necessity at all times.  Looking forward to how it sounds a feels tomorrow.

I never did a decibel reading with the stock exhaust, and yes, the CW exhaust is very loud...the insert in my opinion is almost a necessity.

Agreed...the exhaust is perfect in my opinion now.  Sound level is still louder than stock but instead of a loud roar you get that trademark Ducati sound. 

I am very happy with it now!!!

FYI  when you have them replace the rear rim, make sure you get it back with the red ducati stickers on the rim.  I know this may sound trivial but when I had mine replaced they didn't have the stickers and it was the first thing I noticed.  I still don't have them and it catches my eye every time I look at the bike.

Thx, I had my rim replaced.  Same thing, they said they didn't have the stickers.  For whatever reason Ducati makes the dealer order them separately.  Suffice to say I made the dealer order them for me and put them on.  Go back and make them do it, that is part of the recall and was free...AS IT SHOULD BE!!!!!  The stickers actually add a lot and I would be pissed!!!!!

Fireman, that's Bad Ass Sir!!!  I'm loving my exhaust with the silencer in, sounds great!!!  I also just ordered the CW Fender Eliminator, a Smoke Motodynamic Integrated tail light and removed my passenger pegs.  The Fender and Light should be delivered today but I work tonight, so I hope to install them when I wake up tomorrow!

 

Did you put the stock exhaust back on when you brought your bike in for the service? Did they say anything about warranty or is it fine?

It looks like it but thats what its designed to do to lower the dB level. Slow the exhaust gasses before they exit. Just like my firearm silencers work. (same concept at least)

I can always play around with a dremel when Im bored. lol

I've been considering taking a dremel to mine too..using the same principles as a firearm suppressor and drilling evenly spaced holes on the insert has some serious possibilities....you go first tho :)

I just installed my CW Fender eliminator....the instructions left a little to be desired and was a very tight fit for the Motodynamics Integrated tail light adapter cable.  Mine is stainless in color, your looks black....did you paint yours?

Yeah I painted mine black with krylon fusion(4 coats) and then used a UV clear coat on it.(4 coats)  [beer]And yes the intructions sucked but it is what it is.

Thx, I'll be removing my CW Fender eliminator and painting it soon...not looking forward to it tho.  I may make some minor modifications to it to manage the wires better.

As for the suppressor.  I had watched that video before.  The baffle system featured is far more advanced and newer than old style cans.  What I was going for by suggesting evenly spaced holes drilled on the insert would be to allow even expansion of the exhaust gasses.  And you suck by the way.   ;D   I live in California and I'm guessing you are a firefighter.  Well, I wear blue and even I can't have a suppressor......

has anyone with the CW exhaust sent in their ECU in to have it reflashed?  I am seriously considering this exhaust for my evo over the termi's just from the stand point of cost alone.  Easily save 1000 bones to spend on other upgrades by going with the CW's.  A little anxious about not knowing how the reflash will turn out though.  especially considering that my dealership will probably poo poo it.  Thoughts?

Nope, I'm actually very happy with the way the CW is running WITH INSERT.  Without the insert you get a lot of popping on decel.  It is very revvy tho :).  I plan on changing the air filter out shortly, after that I will see if a reflash is needed.  As of now tho, I don't feel it is necessary.

I was in the same boat you were in as well.  I really wanted the Termi's, but after installing the CW and seeing how much it cleaned up the bike I don't feel I compromised at all.

I called speedy moto today and talked to them about the ECU flash.  The tech I spoke with said that the bike is going to run fairly lean with the CW exhaust and that without the reflash and new air filter that it could cause damage in the long term (piston).  The tech said it would sound fine and even feel like it is  running well without the ECU though.
I really like the way it looks on the bike, really clean. I'm not really looking forward to pulling the darn tank off to get to the ecu (done this twice already) but I think if I go with the CW I will bite the bullet just so everything is good.

UPDATE

Ok I picked up my bike from the dealer yesterday and they said when they checked the exhaust gasses that it was running a tad lean at idle. But the mechanic said it can be misleading because the bike wasnt under load(dyno). He recommended taking it to a dyno and doing a couple runs to see if it richens under load as runing a tad lean at idle wont hurt it.

Im going to track down bike dyno around me and get it done soon. If it runs lean I guess Ill just save for the termi kit. [roll]

you dont have to get the dyno or save for the termis unless you really want to.  Just get the ECU flashed.  Speedy Moto has a map for the CW EVO exhaust that fixes everything.  That is who I spoke to about the bike running lean was the tech at speedy moto.  I think it runs $150 bucks and you just send your ECU in and they flash it for you.

The problem is a ecu reflash voids the warranty. I had a talk with the dealer and basically ducati can deny a warranty claim say on a blown engine if you used a non termi setup.

ah.  gotcha.  I decided to opt for the termi's installed at the dealer.  Similar reason.  They would only warranty the exhaust and the modification if they did the ECU install.  got a pretty good deal though considering.  Still the termi's are $$$$$.  my budget for mods got a big chunk removed.

That sucks....I like the CW, very light and clean looking...and not everybody has it.  The Termi's are nice but not worth the money in my opinion......

Was the running lean comment with or without the CW Insert?  I can tell a difference by having it installed....

It was with the insert. But like the said it was on the lean side at idle but not dangerously lean. He highly recommended doing some pulls on a dyno and having the gasses checked. Im going to look around for one and of course ill update with video and info learned. ;)

You can always bring it back to original (or keep the stock one, and reflash a spare you get off eBay), in case some warranty repair show up.

Great idea on the ecu spare. But yeah ducs run lean anyway so ill wait and see what the dyno shows.

Alright, I've had the silencer/insert in for some time now.  I'm really enjoying it but I want to get that growl back and have it be just a bit louder.....Fireman, did you mod your insert yet?  Just curious, I'm thinking about just cutting the end off where the flanged tip is.  I'm thinking that may be enough based on the Termi Silencer thread...Just wanted to see if you had done it yet so I could learn from any possible mistakes before I did mine  [beer]

I just got back from a ride after doing the mid on my termi fb killers and the sound and ride seems absolutely perfect. Just taking out the cylinder made a nice difference.

Thanks for the info, the CW insert is designed a little differently.  It is all one welded piece.  I would have to drill/cut to make any changes to it.  I am thinking of slicing the end off leaving the neck in place but getting rid of the flange on the end.

You could cut off the end and see how it sounds. If you need more noise just cut it again, closer to the end where it attaches to the can. Using a hacksaw was an effective and efficient way for me.

I haven't modded the silencer yet. And I'll tell you why.....

I lost one of the silencer screws that hold it in. I tightened the hell out of it but still lost one. Well, I came home from a ride one day and found that the endcap had blown a rivet. I called CW and it seems that because the screw that fell out is also used to secure the endcap that the rivets had to pull double time to keep the endcap in place which was now under more pressure as a result of the exhaust gasses hitting the insert.

They are having me mail in the exhaust for repair. In the meantime they mailed me a replacement screw but since then I blew out another rivet. So get some red loctite and secure those screws after you do the mod. I haven't mailed it out yet but when I do and it comes back repaired I'm going to drill holes all over the tube. I'll keep that metal strap at the end because thats what gives it that nice rumble tone and added backpressure.

I'm sorry you had that happen Brother, glad they are taking care of the issue for you.  I'm off today so maybe I'll work on drilling holes today after the gym!

Fireman, I'm glad you mentioned the backstrap as I'd originally thought to just cut off the end.  That would not have worked.  I took a slightly different route than drilling holes as I wanted to just expand on the design CW had created.  I effectively doubled the flow of the insert and it sounds magnificent.  It regained some of the growl while still maintaining the tuned sound...not just a continuous roar as it is without any insert.

I used a dremel with a metal cutting disk then ground down the edges.  It sounds amazing, a wonderfully happy medium between no insert and the unmodified insert.  

and thanks for the heads-up about the screws coming loose.  When I took mine off one of the screws was very loose, the two others were still just as tight as when I had installed it.  I only had Blue Loctite so I'm hoping that will be enough.   [beer]

Just a couple observations after a quick 60 mile ride in the foothills....the CW Insert unmodified is WAY TOO RESTRICTIVE...I didn't even notice how much power I loss with it in there until I modified the insert.  It was a huge difference in throttle response and acceleration.  It sounds much better now too...I am getting a little bit of popping on decel now but I like it  [thumbsup]

Turned out great. I did what you did but offset the length on each side. I went down .5" on one side and a little over a 1" on the other. It sounds great! [beer]

I was so happy with the sound improvement I actually took it back out this morning and made the holes even longer.   ;D. I think I finally got it where I want it now...pretty darn loud but not "no insert painful loud"  [thumbsup]

Like I said, went back in and made another cut.  The sound is fantastic now and much less restrictive.

Oh...and DO NOT USE RED LOCTITE on the exhaust screws.  I used Blue and I was afraid the heads were gonna snap off before I got them back out.

the main factor for the sound deadening in any case is that it doesnt get a straight shot to the exit

the smaller outlet helps too, but that wedge in the front pushes the exhaust and noise into the muffler packing, which echoes in there and the exhaust just goes around, while the sound bounces all around in there, that design of the baffle is very thought out, the baffle on my sc-projects has a flat pieces there so it doesnt offer a smooth path for the exhaust to flow, imagine hitting a wall with a tomato vs slicing it with a knife

but the opening you have modified allows for the exhaust gases to flow towards the exit much easier as opposed to having to have the high pressure point in the center of the can

How did this turn out?
It kind of worries me, even though cheaper, investing money on something which falls apart after a few miles.

I haven't mailed the pipe back yet. I'll update when its sorted.

Ok I mailed out my pipe last week. It took 6 days to reach Oregon and they fixed it and air mailed it back the same day(yesterday). It arrives tomorrow. Great service!

They said my rivets failed because it was accidentally assembled with aluminum rivets instead of stainless steel.

Good to know, I've been keeping an eye on mine and so far so good!  And that is a fast turnaround considering its across the whole country and back!

Awesome, mine is getting chips too.  I wish CW would just sell a black one like their exhausts.  They obviously have the resources to do 10 different colors on their exhausts, why not the fender eliminator?
