Well, could be a great race tonight, best news is Nicky Hayden got the Ducati onto the front row qualifying 3rd behind Lorenzo and Pedrosa, then Crutchlow 4th and Stoner in 5th. I really thought Stoner would just ride away with the championship this year but it looks like he could have a battle on his hands. Very early days of course.
Rossi is down in 13th, if only Ducati had listened to Stoner, appreciated what he did for them and kept him on, he'd be winning races if not the championship for them this year (if only, if only)  :)

So Stoner battled through in what was quite an interesting race, lots of place changes to start with and it was an interesting fight in the pack for 2nd to 5th most of the race, with a couple of paint-swap incidents but thankfully everyone stayed upright. Glad to see Hayden was competitive but where was Rossi??? Aren't they riding the same bike?? Has the Doc lost his bottle maybe?

Unfortunately I couldn't stay to the finish, the broadcast kept skipping and blacking out for seconds at a time and I lost patience with it and went to bed. Did others get that problem or was it just local to my reception?

According to the studio commentary it was a satellite issue ... same for everybody apparently.

Hayden finished 8th and Rossi 9th although I think there was about 5 seconds between them. Hayden was challenging up the pointy end for the first few laps but couldn't keep the pace up.

I hope Ducati sort out their issues but the fact that it hasn't happened by now doesn't fill me with confidence that they ever will.

Post by: Sundog on April 29, 2012, 10:57:24 PM
I'm guessing that things won't improve with the GP12 bike and Ducati focus on Super stock and then WSBK with the Pana, which should pwn anything put up against it for a couple of seasons at least.

In a recent interview Claudio Domenicali stated that they didn't need racing to keep their profile up but the new Audi ownership could change all that if they want to somehow have their name associated with the GP circuit, so there may be life in the Desmosedici yet.

What I found interesting was Doohan's comments that since Rossi has decided he has 'nothing to prove' and that Nicky is the one 'pushing' the bike ... that Ducati may now be developing the bike with/for Nicky rather than Rossi.

Yes it was great to say Nicky pushing hard up the front , I just hope they can sort out  some of the issues
as to why he dropped off the pace in the later part of the race. Tyres maybe ?
On the Panagali found this

I happily eat my words, I thought he dominated the race. Also nice psychological move, not bothering to come out for the warm-up.

Anyone who wants to watch what will apparently, sadly, be Casey's 15th last MotoGP should turn to Channel 10 at 9.40 tonight. From Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans.
One HD is showing Moto 2 & 3 from 7pm.

                                        [thumbsup]  Good Luck Casey   [thumbsup]

MotoGP from Catalunya this weekend, Sat 9.30 pm  Practise   OneHD

Sun 9.30 pm MotoGP    Channel 10.

Moto 2 and 3  are on 7pm to 9.30 Sun OneHD or after the MotoGP on 10.

Should be a great race with Lorenzo and Pedrosa in front of their home crowd and Stoner desperate to win in his last year.

Also noticed some Isle of Man TT on One HD but not too sure if its the actual race or practise or what.                                     check guide for times

Tonight from Silverstone, OneHD has Moto2 live from 8pm and MotoGP on channel 10 from 9.30.
Casey's gotta pull his finger out and start winning if he wants to retain the world title in his last year, so should be a great race.

Yes Paul, just getting round to it   ;D

From Assen this weekend, so everything is 24hrs earlier than usual, (for what reason I never understood) which has caused me to miss a few good races over the years.

so FRIDAY night is MotoGP practice 9.30  on One HD

SATURDAY night is MotoGP race 9.30pm  Channel 10, and Moto2 an 3 racing at 7pm OneHD.

I so hope Stoner can get his Honda sorted and start winning, full credit to Lorenzo though, he's riding like a machine.

Looks like someone went at it with a holesaw.

But last race when Stoner mentioned that he was given a dud tyre that was useless after four laps, it was all "there's Stoner moaning again" and Bridgestone announced everybody was happy, one race later Bridgestone are going to conduct a full investigation, what a circus !

Yep, Rossi to Yamaha is official.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101761 (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101761)

I think it has damaged his reputation. Earlier this month he was denying such rumours. Now he has chucked it in, resigned to the fact he couldn't sort the Duc out. I'm sure this is making Casey grin inside his helmet.

With Hayden and Dovisioso lined up for 2013, and Rossi sucking wind, I think you'd be a welcome addition.  you have my full support, and I'm happy to commit that to writing.

Don't even talk to me about Spies.  I'm not sure that the good folks at Pramac are thinking clearly taking full factory support from the team and bike that couldn't make Rossi win.  I'm not sure when the light is going to come on, and they are going to just redesign that bike from scratch.  Something is fatally flawed there.

This weekend from Sepang in Malaysia, so note the different times. Been thinking about a trip to Malaysia next year if anyones interested ? ? ? Spend a week or so touring on hire bikes then finish up at Sepang for the MotoGP, would be a lot of fun and a bit different to the usual DMF ride. Anyway something to think about over the next year.  ps GO LORENZO !

Too tough a penalty on Honda/Marquez you reckon?

I do! Here's why. First time this sort of thing was done. It would be all too easy to miss your pit board the first time round. Perhaps M93 thought that he would wait for one lap longer than Lorenzo, thinking Lorenzo went in on lap 9 (not the actual 10).

In any case, what's done is done and M93 will have to work hard the next few races.

It's certainly going to increase the gate takings and TV ratings.

The penalty suited his track entry exiting from pit lane. Poor timing and across JLs line. Mind you he had a look and saw him. Nearly RIP for both of them. Missing his pit board and getting in late was more technical and that was harsh. Maybe the two infringements were put together.
Trying to understand the race officials is like trying to understand the AFL tribunal.

Couldn't agree more, the penalty was to harsh for missing his Pit Board but was fair for wandering onto JL's line.

I couldn't care less about the style of the chassis as long as they win. I wouldn't want ducati to get stuck in a time warp like Harley. Ducati has a proud racing history and if the trellis frame doesn't cut it, it's time to move on

I tend to agree with Rendang a bit ... and not just because of the aesthetics. For me the bigger issue is the reason for the change.

My understanding of how motorcycles work is something like: petrol, key, starter button. My understanding of design & dynamics is obviously even more limited ... but I remember reading that an old retired Aussie bloke (well he's 28 now) had a lot of faith in Filippo Preziosi's ideas - the problem was having them implemented. I think he was actually talking about that confidence after he had left the fold too, which makes it more genuine for me.

Sadly they are both gone now.

Ducati's proud racing history is not founded in doing what everyone else has been doing for longer.

ducati have gone there own way but to competitive theses days u have to be running the lastest and best technology  the old trelis frame is just too stiff , now with the twin spar it should go around corners there engine has all ways be competitive with out  having to go to air solidnoid actuated valves so nothing wrong with desmotronic   operated valves so thats a big plus the engine provides the sole of a bike u dont look at while riding and to me thats the biggest thing providing grin factor comes first with me thats why i just love twins , but ducati do sit on there lorals too much and are loosing sales  and races , take the new monster  i read nothing but bad reviews it too small for most rider who have a foot bigger than a size 5 , 2 people dont fit , the engine is still belt driven , and with other naked bike putting another forty horse power and with better elctronics for far less money dont get me wrong i love ducatis all ways will but in todays wold people want bang for buck  cheers bazz

Above all else I want them to win to, but I don't think Ducati is in any danger of being stuck in a time warp. Aluminium frames predate the Desmosedici trellis frame anyway and at least they used win on the trellis. But if it doesn't cut it yes it has to go. I was actually thinking more of the carbon fibre nonframe frame. I guess having no frame is fairly cutting edge  :) but unfortunately as Betty said they never had the money to develop it. Here is a long but very good article on Ducati's motogp problems, definately worth a read.

Well it could be a really exciting race, Jorge on pole with a qualifying lap record, Marquez "I have nothing to lose" second and Rossi, inspiring old codgers world wide, make up the front row.  I have nothing to lose sounds ominous I hope they all make it across the finish line.
Two Ducs are on the second row.

Can opened.

I'm not really into racing but I'll admit to being more of a Stoner fan ... and never really liking Rossi ... it's a personality thing - although he does seem to be less of a dick nowadays.

I actually think it would be terrible for the sport if the old man won. Every race has massive 'Rossi Only' sections in the crowd. 'Fans' that would probably walk away with the GOAT (self-proclaimed or not) when he leaves. Another title would only further convince people they will never see any better so what's the point.

No doubt the bloke can ride ... but that doesn't make him unique. His longevity is a point of difference ... but relatively speaking he has had a pretty easy ride.

Agreed on the easy ride/run.

He had the might of Michelin making custom tyres for specific tracks and having them flown in overnight. Gave him a heck of an edge over the competition.

If a battle Rossi wins. I think Jlo will get a jump and be gone. Hope not however.

Championship race back on!

Lorenzo must have been uber grateful to DP for taking a few extra points off Rossi.

It was a great bounce back after his crash last race.

Should be a ripper! Great that we don't have to stay up with the owls to see it on  free to air! Lol!

Hope De Angelis is okay.

Hey Carlos!

It's usually us Southern Hemispherians who need to lose sleep, so I guess the MotoGP paddock needs to share the love around somehow!! Lol!

How's the leg?

Wow, that was one of the best races I have ever seen !  What a move by Iannone, I let myself dream of a Ducati victory for a few seconds.
I love it when I hear the commentators say things like "That Ducati is a rocketship" and "The power of that Ducati just blitzes them down the straight".
And it closes up the championship a few points, but I reckon Rossi will get it in the end.

Agreed! It was a cracker of a race! 👍🏻👍🏻
Iannone rode the wheels off the Ducati! It's straight line speed was simply awesome.

Great that Ducati is moving in the right direction.

I'd prefer Lorenzo to take the championship, but reckon that save a crash or DNF from Rossi, he'll get it.

Malaysian MotoGP, note the time, lock it in !    Channel ONE,     Sunday    5.30 pm.

Plenty of pre-race jousting, jostling and positioning going on.

Pedrosa on Pole  ?   ?   ?    MM 2nd, Rossi ahead of Lorenzo 3rd, Lorenzo 4th then Cruchlow, Iannone and Dovi ! Will be crowded at the first corner !
Should be a great race  !

In Qualifying Marc leads out Jorge and Andrea leads out Vale.

Last race this weekend  Valencia.  Obviously JL has got to be the favourite to take the world championship but one would never discount Rossi he may just pull a rabbit out of a hat, this is racing and anything could happen !
