Title: Re: panigale Post by: Bill in OKC on May 16, 2013, 07:01:50 AM The trickle-down of MotoGP technology was not supposed to work that way. Bring back the trellis.
Title: Re: panigale Post by: wasabi on May 16, 2013, 07:06:26 AM At least it might draw some of the heat from the engine :P
Doesn't look good though... Title: Re: panigale Post by: jaxduc on May 16, 2013, 07:16:44 AM the only thing I think is cool about the pani is the rear shock/spring set up. and the exhaust. and the engine. ok I'm just saying that if someone gave me one, i would take it.
just sayin. That's not the final product.

I guess you haven't followed world SBK this year...or last year...or MotoGP...Ducati isnt the dominant figure they once were. The 1199 hasn't exactly helped Ducatis racing efforts, its the prettiest for sure, but not the fastest around a track. It gets bested by the "jap" bikes we so frequently bag on lol. That being said, I would still give a testicle for an 1199R Title: Re: panigale Post by: Raux on May 16, 2013, 08:11:14 AM I guess you haven't followed world SBK this year...or last year...or MotoGP...Ducati isnt the dominant figure they once were. One season does not make dominance.
Second, the 1199 isn't winning in WSBK because of the intake restrictions that are placed on twins due to their extra 200 cc capacity. The new motor is designed to rev, but needs to breathe, which it can't. It has nothing to do with the chassis design. Watch a World Superstock race where there are no such restrictions. The 1199 runs up front with the other big horsepower bikes, namely Kawasaki and BMW. That said...the RSV4 is a better bike all around IMO. No way I'd race an 1199...that shock is just waiting to get destroyed in a minor lowside. Ducati has claimed 5 championships out of the last 10 seasons. More than any other manufacturer. Some would call that dominance. That's embarrassing. and in motogp, they were winning races in the first years. even finishing as high as second in the constructors' championship before Stoner's romp. while not dominating, it wasn't a dog like it is now. but it got progressively worse the more preziosi messed with it. and really, who counts superstock. WSS gets more respect. Title: Re: panigale Post by: Triple J on May 16, 2013, 10:24:12 AM but it's not like Ducati didn't know about the restrictions. [bang] The highest ranked Ducati in WSBK is nearly 100 pts behind. Of course they knew about the restrictions. They also knew that the old motor design wasn't capable of winning anymore, so something drastic had to be done. I'm sure they're hoping to get the intake restrictions eased. The Superstock comment was just to show that the new motor is capable of running at the front, as is the chassis. Keep in mind too...Checa has been hurt all season, which makes the results look even worse. All that said, I have no idea why Ducati doesn't just dump the twin for a V4 for their SBKs so it isn't an issue. The spec tire is what largely killed their GP bike, not necessarily the chassis. The bike was a dog as soon as the spec. Bridgestones were introduced, and they've never been able to recover, even after dumping Preziosi's frameless design for a twin spar chassis a couple years ago. It wasn't ever a great bike though.
