Okay, the bike has close to 5000 miles on her, and I'm getting what sounds like a chiming sound, or more like some tinkling coming from the right side between 5000 and 6000 rpms. The bike does not have to be in gear for the noise to manifest itself. This started happening about a week ago. Any ideas?
lose your fin pucks?
the little pieces that sit between the aircooling fins
they reduce vibration which causes noise. i have the same issue
Damn annoying. It's such a tinny noise, not what I would expect. Thanks for the info.
It's not the pucks, it's the heat shield on the exhaust pipe that's loose. I need to find my metric hex key set to tighten that up.
I'm glad you figred this out.
I had this problem a couple of years ago and just decided to take the damn thing off since the nuts that hold the screw in place aren't worth a damn.
damn
Good catch
I added some additional fiber washers on both sides as mine would work itself loose even though the bolts were tight.
Scott
I need to replace mine anyway since it's messed up from my drop. Would blue loctite work?
Probably not due to the heat
Awesome. The screws won't go in any further, so either a washer came out or something. If I find out someone has been messing with my bike I'm going to have to make an example of them.
there are 2 padded washers per bolt, they flatten over time.
get new ones

The washers are gone, and the bike is less than a year old. [thumbsdown]

716.1.405.1A is the part number I think
My dealer is out of stock, but their sister store has 27 of them. The heat shield requires four of the washers. Anywho, I'm hitting the other store since it's near my office tomorrow.
