Title: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 22, 2013, 09:48:47 AM No joke, it is. Maybe aside from some front suspension work. How my M750 looked when I bought it: (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/og4_zpsb79257af.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/og1_zps612fc8af.jpg~original) First thing I did was chop the tail and remove the turn signals, rear hugger, and tank pad and added a Roadracing full exhaust. Then I backed into it in my driveway like a jackazzand was inspired to transform it completely rather than just be content fixing the dented tank. So it got a coat of SEM "Hot Rod" black, and from there: - A 900 Supersport engine swap. The engine was sourced from eBay for $250 plus shipping and looked like this when I got it: (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/900ss2_zpsc627ee98.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/900ss1_zps333e053c.jpg~original) After a valve job, complete top end rebuild, clean up and paint she looked like this: (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/engine1_zps8c880f3f.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/engine2_zpsd0becd9f.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/engine3_zpsc057a6e8.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/engine4_zpsb840331a.jpg~original) The final rebuild also included: - Keihin FCR's - Pod filters - IMA upper and lower triples - Bitubo XZE 2 way adjustable monoshock in red - Rizoma rearsets - LSL carbon fibre bars - Ducabike slipper clutch in red - CTMOTO clutch cover - Sargent seat - Ducabike slave cylinder - Ducabike gas cap - LED 3 eye headlight - Oberon billet turn signals - Ducati Performance shorty aluminum front fender - Shorty billet adjustable levers - A bunch of other billet bling I'm forgetting about And now looks like this: (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/headlightears_zpsb1b02774.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/new1_zpsf70fa043.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/final1_zps8b1699f3.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/final2_zps488a8114.jpg~original) (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/final3_zpsf36b31a9.jpg~original) Now my $ gets saved for either an S4r, M1100, or 848 Streetfighter...haven't decided which. In the meantime I'll just ride the piss out of this Frankenmonster. Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Blackout on July 22, 2013, 11:09:47 AM Nice work! [beer]

Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: zooom on July 22, 2013, 12:02:16 PM good job....but as of right now....you only "think" it is finished....I see a potential for a couple/few other things.

Noticeable power difference? Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 22, 2013, 12:12:32 PM good job....but as of right now....you only "think" it is finished....I see a potential for a couple/few other things. Please share! SSS conversion? :P The swingarm is the only thing that really "bothers" me atm.. Nice. Noticeable power difference? Yes. The 750 would stay firm on the ground WOT in first gear. Between the 900 and the FCR's I can get the front tire up in 3rd if I wack it open, easily in 1st and 2nd. I'd like to have it dyno'ed. One of these days I will pick up an old I4 Jap bike to hone my skills at the track with, until then I have no need for more power on the street. My skill level is still modest. Great job. Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: duc996 on July 23, 2013, 06:32:50 AM Well done! But we're never finished ;-)
Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on July 23, 2013, 08:00:47 AM I agree about the lack of thrill with that swing arm. Instead of doing a single sided, what about a newer double sided? I think would up the visual on the bike and hopefully spare all the work of converting to single sided. I do like the Ducati sticker on the one side, why not put one on the other side?
Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: yamifixer on July 23, 2013, 08:14:16 AM Wow! that looks great. Nice work [thumbsup]
Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 23, 2013, 08:22:49 AM Thanks for the affirmations everyone! My dumb ass wouldn't have been able to do any of this if not for this board.

I think would up the visual on the bike and hopefully spare all the work of converting to single sided. I do like the Ducati sticker on the one side, why not put one on the other side? Hrrm. That's a good idea. Does anyone know what swingarms would bolt right up? Weren't all DS engines built with the same SA mounting accommodations? This Radical Ducati swingarm...mm mm mmmmm. The 00 and newer SS swingers look good also. Powercoat that thing black and you can get the license plate 187DUC Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 23, 2013, 08:37:36 AM Plus I'd be able to fit the shorty CF hugger I've always wanted. That thing is just nasty lookin'. I guess I'm not done after all...
wait a damn minute...I bet I'd need a new rear shock despite having JUST bought a new Bitubo... [bang] Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: zooom on July 23, 2013, 08:46:19 AM I was thinking more things like upgrading that master cylinder for starters...I know you are looking into getting a more adjustable front end...that Radical Ducati Swinger is damn sexy....and well...this all comes back to what I said about how you "think" you are done...but you aren't...

Point taken...there should always be an * next to "finished" or "done". it's funny how the difference between now and $2-$3000 ago could probably only be spotted by another Monster fanatic. I'm glad most of my mods also have a performance benefit. Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: memper on July 24, 2013, 02:36:06 AM IMO its really a matter of knowing when to stop. Jon Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 24, 2013, 08:35:31 AM Thanks Gigawatt and JPlip.
J, I got this from eBay for under $100. It's pretty damn bright and was easy to install. I think it's a slight knock off of the $500 Hardley "Daymaker" headlight. It is somewhat "plastickey", but then again it was inexpensive. No problems so far after around 1000 miles and I would buy it again. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400429003282?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400429003282?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) Or I'd get the Hardley light and see about mounting it in my stock bucket: http://www.thehouseofharley.com/Daymaker-Black-LED-Headlamp-67700040A-p/67700040a.htm (http://www.thehouseofharley.com/Daymaker-Black-LED-Headlamp-67700040A-p/67700040a.htm) Rare that I like anything Harley, but this light looks the business.. OR you could go this route...looks to be the same thing; http://www.kbcarstuff.com/JW-Speaker-Model-8700-Evolution-p/jws-m8700-ev.htm (http://www.kbcarstuff.com/JW-Speaker-Model-8700-Evolution-p/jws-m8700-ev.htm) Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: JPlip on July 24, 2013, 11:36:42 AM Awesome! BTW is there any beam cut-off on the headlight to minimize blinding oncoming traffic? That being said it does have that bug eye look to me. Then again the only aftermarket light setup I have seen that I like at all is StormTroopers. Hell I love the stock headlight. I even like the two tone color as it ties into my engine cases nicely. Never call it done, I am learning that the hard way. Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 24, 2013, 07:28:55 PM Yep, bling out your bike however ya see fit I say! It wasn't an easy choice because I do like the big round headlight, and it really is a Monster trademark. But no biggie cuz it's going on my 750SS cafe racer. :) That's another way I justify all the stuff I buy...I'm a frame, swingarm and some farkles away from building an extra Ducati. :)
Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: The ModFather on August 10, 2013, 07:45:40 AM I'm looking at the same LED headlight (off ebay from GB right?). I'd like to find an OEM wiring connector I can solder on to it as used on the stock bucket so I can swap between the stock headlight bucket and this instead of splicing up my stock wiring harness. Anyone know where to find these connectors outside of buying a busted headlight bucket on ebay? Also any issue with the difference in electrical impedance? LED typically draws less current did you need to add any resistors?
The only other concern I had was the "not E-Marked" warning shown below. I know this aint Europe but is there any issue with this light not being DOT certified? Am I at risk of blinding oncoming traffic? ***ALSO, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT E-MARKED AND ARE SOLD 'FOR SHOW USE ONLY'*** Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on August 10, 2013, 01:33:50 PM I've personally never been hassled over non-DOT approved equipment on my bike. Cops generally know jack sht about it one way or another. Mine has a nice bright low beam that doesn't blind anyone, took care to set it up that way with a friend in a car helping out. The high beam is another story but I don't use that when facing traffic.

LED typically draws less current did you need to add any resistors? Regardless of DOT or E-marking there's another potential issue. Since this headlight assembly is sold in the UK you ought bear in mind that for their local market the low beam should aim to the left not the right as would be appropriate for your other-side-of-the-road driving. On the other hand "for show use only" could mean it's not set up for anybody's left or right side driving. The only other concern I had was the "not E-Marked" warning shown below. That you haven't noticed doesn't make it not so ;). Go take a look at an OEM headlight assembly. Few of them that I have ever seen point "straight", low beam is aimed towards the near-side (to the RHS for USA/Europe, to the LHS for UK/Aus/Japan) so as to reduce glare for oncoming traffic. Different lenses depending on LHD/RHD market destinations. Those who import US vehicles into Australia have to fit correctly directional headlights in order to meet local compliance. And I'm not just talking about the physical direction towards which light is manually orientated, the lens itself is "focused" towards whichever is the appropriate side. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic#Headlamps_and_other_lighting_equipment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic#Headlamps_and_other_lighting_equipment) Title: Re: My bike is finished Post by: Rudemouthsky on August 11, 2013, 06:02:24 AM Yeah I wasn't claiming they weren't...just that I hadn't noticed. ;).
