Title: Trooper hits couple on bike <video>
Post by: Stormtrooper on September 11, 2013, 10:36:03 AM
This really sucks for the couple, that goes without saying.  However, I'll be the devils advocate and say this is a good lesson in wearing the proper gear!  The guy credits their helmets for saving their lives but based on the wifes face I'm guessing they were open face helmets?  The injuries to his hands tell me he was'nt wearing gloves and it appears from the video you can see bare arms which mean no jacket, hence the rash on his arms.  Rash on the legs = probably wearing jeans.  Be safe out there, even cops can mow you down!

He was careful of the taxpayers patrol car, tho...... He kept checking it instead of the nasty bikers he took out. [bang]

The gear police strikes, how about we start with wishing them well?   Frankly what happened to them was unnecessary and I feel terrible and wish them a speedy recovery.   As for the Officer, my guess is he was playing on his computer or texting.  It's amazing how many people I see texting these days

I'm leaning towards him running their license plate through the computer checking reg, inspection, etc

the difference in speed between the cruiser and the bike would lead me to not agree with that conclusion.....

actually, pointing out their gear IS a lesson here. Many people wear little to no gear because they are 'great riders' and won't have an accident.

This couple had NO CONTROL of what happened to them, but they could have had control of the severity of it, by wearing better gear.

something else curios here.

why were they going so slow? and was he not looking in his mirror or seeing this bright light quickly coming up on him?

I'm not blaming the couple IN ANY WAY, just wondering what they were thinking as well.

Who said they were going slow? Do you know how fast the Cruiser was going?

Yeah, and it's dark so I'm sure the motorcyclist was going at the speed limit or slightly under it to prepare for wildlife, etc that he could control. Police cruisers tend to travel 10+ over on interstates.

That looked like a bit more that 10 over. I'm guessing the difference in speed was closer to 25-30MPH...

if you look at the car that passes just after, it was going about the same speed as the cruiser.

Cars go faster than bikes on highways at night, it's the safe thing to do. Have you ever had a deer run in front of you? Not even close to the rider's fault.

The fact that he doesn't even swerve at the last second tells me he was not looking at the road at all. Someone that was just spacing out while driving would have seen the bike at the last second and at least changed direction. I'm guessing this guy was looking at those stupid computers they're allowed to access while driving. Average drivers can't operate a cell phone but police officers can type on a laptop, makes perfect sense.

Glad they're doing relatively OK for being thrown over the top of a car and sliding for a way down the road. Her nose looks gnarly.

++++ 11tybillion for the camera. Sucks this happened, but the evidence will probably lead to changed procedures and standards that will save lives.

I hope that idiot is fired!

I hope the execute him after setting his head on fire and pissing on his foot to put it out.

But, hey, I've been run over by a careless asshole before,
so I may not be as lenient as those who have not been so crushed.

Professional?  Protect and serve? make the beast with two backs him.
