Title: Clip Ons Post by: ltnuke on May 07, 2008, 07:31:42 AM So i'm in the market for clip-ons. I'm looking for ones that mount above the steering column thingy. I want them to be fairly adjustable and I want them to be black. Anybody know what clip-ons I should be looking at?
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: Juan on May 07, 2008, 07:34:43 AM This is a good place to start.. Black. Two options. One for only $99.00 and the other for $419.00 http://www.monsterparts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=MP&Offset=12&SortBy=&Category_Code=Bars-Mirrors
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: ltnuke on May 07, 2008, 07:46:01 AM Hm the Apex look better for more bang-for-the-buck. Anybody have pics of the Apex ones installed? My biggest concern in adjusting the riding position so that it isn't too too far off from stock. I do a lot of touring so it needs to be fairly comfortable.

Those are my Apex Clip-Ons installed. Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: ducati_steve on May 07, 2008, 09:11:20 AM I know that Jeff was talking about Apex coming out with clip-ons with risers. I'd probably check with him to see if they're available.
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: He Man on May 07, 2008, 03:56:06 PM the Apex currently dont have risers, they are COMPLETELY different from stock. You may also run into clearence issues because things get real tight, especially with coffin resoviors.
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: ltnuke on May 07, 2008, 08:10:09 PM So is my only option the ~$400 rizomas?? I just want something that looks badass and functions well, even for long rides.
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: He Man on May 07, 2008, 08:26:42 PM your not getting much difference from stock bars when you compare to the rizoma clip ons (PJs has them and they arent that price anymore since the euro went up). I have tomasellis and they are about 2inches lower than stock, even with a 1.5inch rise. Still no go for the long rides. its brutal (i have short reach, 66inch hieght and 66inch arm span) it kills my wrist and back on the 2+ hour rides. im going to go back to bars once the season is over since ill be doing mostly commuting in the fall/early spring season.
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: Heathbert on May 07, 2008, 08:46:24 PM I've got the Rizomas. The new triple that is included is a beauty. The bars themselves are a touch longer than the stock bar. They sit at about the same height as stock and there is a small bit of fore/aft adjustability (with the end attaching to the triple as the pivot point)
I would gladly post a pic or two, but my bike is currently undergoing surgery at the local Duc shop. Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: Jnaids07 on May 08, 2008, 06:49:54 AM So I posted a pic previously showing my apex clip-ons. I figured it might help if I made a list of pros/cons. Some may disagree but this is how I see it:

Cons to Apex Clip-ons:
I am sure others have different views so feel free to add to the lists. Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: c_rex on May 08, 2008, 08:35:51 PM any clip ons can be made black by powdercoat or anodizing. find the ones that fit you and your bike the best then make the color happen.

Grant on May 14, 2008, 12:25:36 AM Are you able to adjust the degree of the Apex's angle somehow? It says they have a 9degree down angle but are adjustable...I'm looking for more of a straight-out feel.

Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: MaxPower on May 15, 2008, 09:34:54 AM I'm still holding out for the APEX risers, anyone have any info? (PMed Jeff to no avail). I'd contact APEX directly but when I google them, I get about five different results that could be the one I'm looking for.
Anyone have a url for them? Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: ICON on May 15, 2008, 10:08:21 AM I'm still holding out for the APEX risers, anyone have any info? (PMed Jeff to no avail). MOTOWHEELS Billet Clip-ons: Monster (http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=38%7CAluminum%20Billet&productID=2942&showDetail=1&categoryID=45|Ducati%20Monster%20Billet&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=168%7CEuropean%20Motorcycle%20Parts) I think we have a version wthout the riser as well. Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: MaxPower on May 15, 2008, 01:06:28 PM http://www.apexmfg.com/Clipons.html Thanks ICON (either their site got reprioritized on google or I'm an idiot at internetting) Anywho, I fired off an email to them regarding the clip-on/risers and in mere hours received this(great communication): Quote Hi Chad, Yes, there is truth to that. The timeline is very difficult at the moment. The first prototypes are done; a few changes need to be made before production. I’m hoping for the end of the month, but I think that’s very optimistic. The price is still to be determined as the product is not done. I think it will be under $200.00 for a completely adjustable set with different size inserts for different rises and adjustable bars like the clip ons we make now. PLEASE NOTE, all of this is subject to change. I’m working with Jeff at Monsterparts.com. He will be the first to get the word out. Thank you very much for your interest, it’s inspiring and may help me work a little harder. Richard Harris Apex Manufacturing L.L.C. Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: BlackDucky on July 15, 2008, 12:34:28 AM SpeedyMoto!!! (Sorry...I love their stuff)
They just recently released their new clip-ons. 50mm or 53mm. $199.99. Quality/Looks way better than APEX. (I actually had the APEX.) Still waiting for the dumb dealership to finish installing mine , so I can post some pics... https://secure.speedymoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CL Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: M900 on July 16, 2008, 04:48:42 PM can you mount clip ons over the triple clamp to increase the height?
Title: Re: Clip Ons Post by: ICON on July 21, 2008, 08:18:50 AM can you mount clip ons over the triple clamp to increase the height? Look at the Motowheels clipons. I mounted those on my 620 ontop of the triple and the feel was awesome. You do lower the bike a little, no biggie. I would not recommend for a Liquid cooled bike though. |
