Title: Metal clacking sound by clutch and belt covers
Post by: Radracer6 on October 06, 2014, 05:07:35 PM
Hi all this is not on a monster but hoping someone can chime in. This is my new 300 mile ducati streetfighter 848. The sound, which to me sounds like metal clacking (or crickets),  seems to be coming from around where the clutch cover meets the belt covers. It's there at idle and gets faster when I roll the throttle and I hear it most when the bike warms up.

I don't recall hearing it earlier. My dealer is kind of far and hoping to get some feedback. This is a wet clutch bike , 2014 and the video below

300 miles on a 2014?

Call the dealer and have them come get it.
Warranty.

Can't remember the technical term but I do believe that the nut holding your clutch pack on has come loose.

Call dealer, flatbed bike before major damage.

Then again it could just be crickets.

oh man, it's possible. Altho sound seems to come on only once bike warms up after a lil bit of riding and not right away and I haven't felt any change in clutch pull. It's a 35mile drive to my dealer. Will get it to them tomorrow hopefully they can figure it out.

Does sound rattly like something is loose from the vid. I would not ride it until I checked it. Clutch nut? Pulley nut with wobbly belt retaining ring? Exhaust clamp? Look down there and check everything, give the bike (motor cold) a good feel.
At least it's under warranty.

Thanks for the input. Of those I am ruling out the exhaust clamp and guard because I'd think i'd hear the sound the moment I turn the bike on but it only comes after bike comes to temperature and warms up, within 10 mins or so.

That is 10 minutes too long. Trailer/flat bed it as advised.

So first i stopped by the dealer. They heard the sound said some of the duc engines just sound louder and make more noise than others. Said if there are no drivability issues its fine. Said im under warranty in case. Went to a local duc mechanic for a second opinion after and he said the same thing. Didnt think it was even that loud.

I guess some other SF owners have mentioned rattling sounds and that's it's normal. Guess time will tell

Might've gotten quieter after ride, maybe bad fuel? I don't know myself anymore

In that case I would open the throttle wide and ride the piss out of it. See if it gets louder or goes away.

Yea pretty much my thoughts exactly. I really pushed it on the way back. Runs strong for now.
