Title: Road rage
Post by: Pakhan on July 14, 2008, 10:11:33 AM
This morning I'm in the cage on my way to work and I saw something interesting.  It's a 2 lane road and someone had parked in one of the lanes, so everyone tries getting into the open lane.  Like a zipper everything is fine but this one car a couple of cars ahead of me would not let a tow truck in.  I let a car in and continued to the next light.

I see the car waiting at the light and the tow truck driver pulls next to him in the available lane and starts argueing with the guy about not letting him in, guy in car is yelling back.  Tow truck driver gets out and opens the passenger side door of guys car and is yelling at him.  He eventually pulls the guy's keys out of the ignition and throws them across the street, says something like "fetch" then takes off.

I just thought it was kind of funny, but a bit extreme for some driving etiquette silliness.

Anyone else see or have road rage that becomes more than an exchange of words?

Let that be a lesson to you. All ways have your doors locked.

LOL first thing I did when I saw this happening was, "did I remember to lock my doors?"  Took a glance and all was good.

Sound advice from Mr. Joe Walsh - Not only entertaining, but also educational.

I honked my horn and gave a dude a finger once in my cage. He had cut me off and brake checked me when I flashed my lights.

Next thing I know he was stopped, out of his car and had a gun pointed to my face in the middle of I-75.
He cussed and yelled for awhile, got back in his car and left. I got his tag #, called it in, and never heard anything.

I don't play those games anymore. Cut me off, fine. Don't let me in line, thats cool. I got all the time in the world.
Too many people (who have no bussiness doing so) carry in their cars in GA. Don't even need a Conceal Permit -- your car is an extension of your home here.

Traffic and bullshit like that isn't worth me reapolstering my car with my brains.

A buddy of mine was on his GSXR on the highway and had a suburban really make the beast with two backsing with him to the point where it was becoming a dangerous situation (there's a bit more to it, but you get the gist).  Chris decided to GTFO and in passing the 'burban, knocked back his breakaway mirror, cracking the glass in the process (thank you carbon knuckle guards).  Can't say I would have reacted the same way but it amused me nonetheless.  Maybe it's just me, but cagers definitely see motorcycles (and cyclists for that matter) as pedestrians who aren't really entitled to their portion of the road.

i run into angry people all the time.

i also run into people that let me go because i'm on a bike.

i have punched mirrors, kicked doors, dented quaterpanels, ect.

it's not really worth the angst you build up in the situation. emotions are hard to control at times, and if i feel someone has put me in more danger than i'm normally in then i start to get worked up. i just try to think of how i would react should someone come after me when i consider dropping the sidestand and taking up the issue face to face.

Now when people piss me off, I try to remember to wave and smile at them.  It's just not worth it.

Toronto, Canada just had their first reported case of road rage causing death, some ass break checked a Suburban at 100km/h (60 mph roughly) suburban veered to avoid hitting the guy caught the gaurd rail and flip 3 times.  He wasn't wearing a seat belt so was ejected and the suburban rolled on top of him.  It doesn't always take a knife, or gun to kill you.  Lets be honest ... are you ever in that big a rush!  I just like yelling in helmet and keeping my hands on the bars you just never know.

Cheers and drive safe.  I'm sure someone something wants to see you when you get home, and I hate seeing wasted Ducati's on the pavement.

my ex was the KiNG of ragers... not only on the road, but that's another story...

ex once threw a very HOT cup of coffee into someone's car window... i was not in the car, thankfully.
he was making a left turn, and someone honked at him for not pulling over far enough for them to go around him... they pulled along side of him and called him an asshole, and he threw the hot coffee in their window.
he went to carwash to wash the coffee off the side of my car, and was surrounded by police with guns drawn. needless to say, the moron was arrested... that is only one of his road rage incidents  [roll]

myself, i was run off the road, and yelled at by a soccer mom with small children in the back seat who said i was speeding  [roll]

she argued with me that she lives in the neighborhood, and her children play on this street... blah, blah, blah.... i asked her if she always acted like a lunatic with them in the car? i said i was sorry to the kids in the back seat for making their crazy mommy yell, and drove off.

When I was a kid, I was always puzzled by the bad guys in cartoons and movies who wanted to destroy the world or kill everyone. What did they have to gain from such an action, if it would kill them as well? As I got older, I started realizing what an unrelentingly awful place the world can be, full to the brim with people too inconsiderate, selfish, uncaring, or just plain evil for words.

At some point, I stopped wondering about the bad guys' motives and reasoning.  :-\

One outstanding NYC memory of road rage was when I was in college.  We were on our way home from school on the Long Island Expressway during rush hour.  This guy in an old Caddy was taligating and blinking his headlights, like we were blocking his progress during bumper to bumper traffic in the right lane.  Finally, the driver of the car we were in had enough and did the simultaneous brake accelerator stomp.  The Caddy, after it's bumper nearly ground into the pavement changed lanes and preceded to try and run us off the road, actually making contact.  His window was opened.  We were armed with water pistols and opened fire.

I discovered last week that having a weak stomach is a great weapon in traffic.

I had some asshat in a Tahoe riding my ass for about 2 miles. If I slowed, he slowed... If i sped up and weaved a few cars, eventually he ended up on my ass again.

Finally we reached a railroad crossing and I positioned myself on his drivers side.  While waiting for the train in 95 degree heat, I removed my helmet (not the smartest thing, I know).  He was sitting with his window down, radio cranked, and yelling into a cell phone.  I beeped the horn, and when he looked, I asked: "Is it bad to be nauseated in this heat?".  He looked at me with a strange look and then went back to yelling into his phone.  Keep in mind, trains come thru here at 15 mph and at 100+ cars long this makes for a long wait.  About a minute later, I had imagined enough sh!t and puke in my mind to begin gagging.  I again beeped my horn and asked the same question.  He gave me the same look again, which change very quickly.  I managed to say look out, as I blew Taco Bell all over the side of the Tahoe.   [puke]  I'm not sure if any got in his window, but I know the guy was a sympathy puker.  He managed to harf right in his own lap.    Enjoying the maneuverability of a bike, I made a U turn and headed across a parking lot.... exit stage left.

So, no need for bad words, no need for threats for me.... I am now going to begin puking on cars that endanger me.

I headed straight home to brush my teeth.

picked my cousin up at Stapleton airport in Denver
driving home on I-25 in moderate traffic
semi truck was stuck behind me in the right lane, and didnt like that i was only going 10 over the speed limit.
so he starts riding up close. i mean danger close, maybe 10 feet off my bumper.
no where for me to go with a steady stream of traffic in the left lane (not to mention the traffic ahead of me in the right lane), so i did the old on/off with the headlights/taillights a few times. looks a bit like brakes without actually slowing down.
he didnt like it too much, and moved in even closer. at that point i had had enough, so i just started to coast, slowing down.
make the beast with two backser finally got in the left lane, and basically forced me off the road (at 70 mph) by intentionally sliding over into the space i was in.

to end a long story, i got his tags and other particulars and called 911.
1/2 hour later i passed the guy. he was pulled over having words with a state trooper [leo]

I'm just glad that my extremely weak stomach finally has a purpose.

I'm a sympathy puker... for those that don't understand, I will more than likely vomit if i see/hear/smell someone else's "Technicolor Yawn".

Hell, a smelly public bathroom sets me off on a heaving fit.

Now I just have to remember to go riding on a full stomach.

people should not be so stupid as to ever get out of their cars and confront people to try to threaten them, if they do they deserve to be shot and killed on sight.

that is what you should be thinking next time you feel the urge to have a "road rage" incident.  drive in your car be polite and get to your destination, your car is not "an extension of who you are" its a tool no more no less.  don't try to prove how tough you are with it.  if you think yo are that tough get out of the car and approach someone and see how well you match up against a 4000lb vehicle or if you are stronger and faster than a bullet from a gun, if you are then by all means "say your piece and pick a fight"

good luck.

That's why I say give everyone the right to carry concealed so long as they have no criminal record.  In the beginning there will be a sharp increase in shootings, but then things will level out and everyone will think twice about all social interactions.  Not only road rage.

Sometimes fear = peace

I like waving to road ragers as if they were a long lost friend .  Last night somone tried to cut my off as he passed me.  I gave him a big smile and wave.  Then 4 miles later he had to stop for gas.  I slowed down and waved again.  He face was such a pretty color red.

I got cut off the other day.

Lady pulled right out in front of me.

I don't slow down when this happens.

I crept up on her and then started to gave her some distance.

She made a left turn and flipped me the bird.

She was wrong and I got the bird?

stupid lady.

Sounds like the lady today that didn't realize bicycles are supposed to be ridden on the road...

Crossing a 1-lane bridge (signs are up to be courteous) I was the last in a line of 4 cars.  10 mph speed limit, so I'm actually speeding keeping up with the other cars going closer to 20mph.  As I pass the 1st car waiting on the traffic to clear the bridge (beat up mid-2000 Dodge truck) the female driving screams "RIDE ON THE SIDEWALK"  She really showed her ignorance to a large group of pedestrians walking the sidewalk she felt I should be riding on.  She was sitting a few feet from a sign marking that bicycles were NOT to be on the sidewalk  [laugh]

Not only that, in NC (as I'm sure in many other states) a bicycle is treated as a car in regards to traffic control (stop signs, red lights etc).

Here is some advice from a guy who spends most of his day driving a Freightliner for a living...............
Road rage is not worth it guys.
Back  off, slow down ,stay cool and let the other guy(s) make complete asses out of themselves.
If you are on a bike , pull over and wait for a couple minutes to let the road-ragers get ahead of you so that no ill will comes your way.
I find that when I get frustrated its usually time for a cup of something good from Starbucks or wherever and I let the stress dissipate away.
Going to jail over something stupid is really not worth it.
Getting shot is definatly not worth it.
Getting run off the road is not worth it.
If what is happening is threat to your life get the number of the car and call it in to the cops, they will help!
So lets recap now............. slow down, keep your anger under control ,pull over and take a break-You probably deserve one anyway.
Stay cool on the roads friends...............
