I had to replace the main wiring loom on my monster.
Everything works as it should only the speedo indicates zero km/h.
I've checked the connection to the speed sensor and everything is as it should be.
Any help is much appreciated.
Does your bike have ABS?
No Abs sir
Ok, any error codes?
Why was the loom replaced?
No errors. The wiring loom had to be changed due to the plug which goes in to the fuel ecu got damaged rubbing against something.
Is there a signal coming from the speed sensor? Power and ground?
Every now and again the speedo starts indicating. Not real speed(way above or under the speed I'm actually doing) but only for few minutes and then stops again
I can't tell if there is any signal as I have no multimeter

Plenty of cheap ones out there. Even a good one is affordable can be bought for $60ish.

I thought the shims are ther for the sensor not tu rubb against the disc
Cheers for that. I'll try it.
Ok, let us know
Gap should be .6 - 2.2 mm.

thanks howie . .having issues with our laptop reading our USB manuals
Any news on this issue?
Sorry for not getting back to you.
I've added 2 shims, they are about 0.5 mm each and still no change. I don't have anymore shims.
Any other advice will be greatly appreciated
I didn't mention that I also run a speedo healer which was set up by vendor indication for my bike specs and tyres size and when I disconnect the speedo healer still not working all the time. Only every now and again I see the speedo working and it is totally inaccurate.

Now, this is interesting . . . could you snap a photo of how it is connected?
I will no problem. Anyway, there is only one way you can connect the sensor on its own or to the speedo healer.
You can't mix them up.
thing is, in the 696/796/1100 and subsequent Ducati bikes, the dashboard has a few additional functions such as: blinker relay, headlight control, etc . . . it reads and sends info to the ECU via CAN-BUS and this particular "street" of communication between sensors and actuators is not the toughest guy in the mix . . . Had a customer install some aftermarket license plate holder on a Diavel AMG and his wiring loom is toast, his CAN-BUS resets any time he turns off the bike, the only constant is the mileage ridden . . .
