Title: Fags
Post by: ducatiz on July 16, 2008, 04:50:27 PM
Anyone else still smoke?  I don't unless I'm out, maybe once in a while in the backyard.  It's banned in the house.

I am a Dunhill man.  I always liked them, too bad I can't get them from yesmoke.ch anymore.  Some ppl make fun of the Dunhills, but they are British, and you really can't say the Brits are pansies like the French are.  They're not cowboys, but they sure have kicked a lot of ass over the years, natty teeth and all.

Regular cigs are $10/pack in NYC now, lots of people quitting.  Does anyone with a full set of teeth smoke anymore?

This is the honest to god truth: the only reason I didn't take up smoking in college is because it would have cut into my drinking money. I was poor and choose my vices and self-destruction carefully. +1 for lungs and -1 for liver.

Also, I love the comedy of Bill Hicks (most people probably know it through the smoking bits that Dennis Leary stole)

Also, my now wife quit smoking about two weeks after we started dating. Apparently making out with me is waaaaaay better.  [thumbsup]

So, um yeah, I don't smoke. Never have. But I have been drinking this afternoon. In case you couldn't tell.

Funny this thread comes up.  I smoke camel filters and I have a bet with my friend to quit.  It starts tonight at midnight and whoever breaks first owes the other $100.  :-\

I smoke like a chimney.

Had someone tell me I'd be dead by 50 if I kept smoking... I smiled and took a puff.

It's my ticket to the afterlife.

That goes withoput saying. I've worked in cabinet shops and construction for a fair portion of my working life and I have never known a painter or finisher NOT to be a chain smoker. Huff fumes all day and I guess you guys go into withdrawl if you don't have a butt five minutes after leaving the booth.

Ever see a small Cambodian man spraying lacquer with a lit cigarette in his mouth? I have. This is the same guy that would start the grill at lunch time by throwing a a rag sopping wet full of xylene on top of the coals.

Good times.

I smoked for 12 years and I smoked Dunhills most of that time (the burgandy box as I called it).  Of course, that comes from the fact that my father smokes like a chimney and is British so he always smoked dunhills (or silk cuts a few times).  Much better than Marlboros or Camels IMO.  Thankfully though, I quit for the last time 1.5 years ago.

Yeah, I smoke.

Started with Camel Turkish Gold, went to Camel Filters, then Parliment Lights, then Camel Turkish Silvers.

Then I smoked a menthol.
And that other stuff taste like shit now.
Newports, or Menthol Parliment Lights.

I can't really smoke anything besides the Dunhill red (or burgundy).  I can puff on a Camel light now and then, but there really is a huge difference in flavour.

It's sort of like booze, once you taste really good stuff you can't drink the cheapo stuff much.

I don't smoke more than a pack a month, usually less.  I can't justify it.  But I do love the taste with a drink...

I have all my teeth and smoke.

Started on camel lights.

When I lived in Ireland, I smoked John Player's (blue box) and rolled my own cigarettes. When I went to France and Amsterdam, I brought back dunhills, but in a regular cigarette pack and the box was white, with a red label.

I smoke Marlboro lights or ultra lights now. Or if a cigarette company is giving away free smokes at a bar, I'll smoke those.

make the beast with two backs, someone gave me a pack of salem 100's on sunday, smoked those.

I can never get into 100's -- or soft packs for that matter.
Really, who actually gets a soft pack? And if you do, why the make the beast with two backs?

I find that if I have 100's, I don't smoke as much..............

but then again, you are taking in more cigarette, but on the flipside, you arent spending as much.

I dont claim to be a smoker, but i do smoke occasionally. Not a big fan of the taste of 90% of the cigarettes out there. I recently tried some fresh rolled tobacco from those foil packages, or atleast i think it was a foiled package, and holy boy! Fresh tobacco = MUCH better than cigarettes. I dip about a can every 2 months, and probably smoked less than 20 packs since i first tried ciggs 4 years ago.

I rolled my own cigarettes while in Ireland, too make the beast with two backsing expensive to buy packs (about 8-9 euro).

Rolling took some practice, but worked out pretty well.

However, it didn't help my skills when I got to Amsterdam

my first smoke was a hand-rolled Drum.  I don't know why I liked it so much, i gagged like a pregnant dog, but the flavour was so much better than anything else.

Drum and the knockoff Samson are good stuff.

I had a rolling machine in college, but not much tobacco was in it.

i smoke a little as a hobby.

never managed to make it a habit.

i prefer non-filters. used to smoke camel or pall mall, more the latter since you get screwed on the former.

then i sort of went on a clove cigarette kick.

not much smoking for me lately, though. though it may happen, as in korea smoking is still very much "in vogue."

Seriously, i always wondered.  And, at least 5x a month, you'd go to the gas station and they'd only have soft packs.

Btw, also a benefit of smoking dunhill - no soft packs.

Dont smoke now, but I when I started working construction at 15 my boss gave me the line "if you are standing around, you're dicking around.  If you are smoking, you're on a cig brake."

I smoked until my last year of college, so in total about 6 years on and off.  If I wasnt smoking I was chewing Skoal.  The first kind I smoked was Camel lights and last brand was Winston

RE: soft packs

The hard box was always getting crushed in my pants pocket during work anyway so I went for the soft packs.  I liked smoking bent and smashed butts, they looked cooler.   I also used to hold them in the breast pocket of my shirts so soft packs were better for that as well.

Still got all my teeth ;D

I picked up smoking in high school, then quit at 19 until I was 23.  Somehow managed to stay (tobacco) smoke-free during the primo party years.  'Til I spent a summer in Europe anyway.

Don't smoke regularly though, and am pretty much the world's worst cig bum.  When I buy my own they are American Spirits.

I gotta say there's nothing better than a fine cigarette and a good beer.  I drive 1200 or so miles a week for work so I try not to buy a pack any more unless I have one of "those days".  For about two months I rolled my own off of some German tobacco the local tobacconist had (it was a full ounce, this is how much I smoke) just so I would smoke less.  It's a great deterrent actually when you realize you have to make your own.  That ran out and I went back to my Turkish Silvers.....never again.  Can't do the gas station stuff any more.  Anyone ever tried Fantasias?  Made in NY, the cigarettes themselves are neon colors, but they're still one of my favs.  Good flavor and they're really tightly packed, you just can't smoke them in public unless you want to get a bunch of odd looks.

factorPlayer, you apparently beat me to the posting punch, I'm glad I'm not the only one up at this hour.  Friggin 3 hour naps......

Cigarettes still cost around 2EUR a pack of 20 in Spain. I stopped smoking early January 2008.

I haven't really looked back but, when I am really stressed I do get the urge every once in a while for a smoke.

I smoked at least a pack a day until 3 years ago. Marlboro reds were my brand of choice, but I have probably tried every brand at one time or another (especially when drinking). I live on a pretty steep hill, and I started getting winded carrying my kids up and down it. Bye-bye, ciggies  :'(

10$ packs in NY? That sucks, that's what we pay here for "premium" brands. Last time I went to NY I was so pleased I could get a pack of Marlboros for 5$.

I smoke John Player Specials. It's the only thing that is smooth and tastes half decent in the potent-king-size range. I go to other stuff regularly, but I always come back to my beloved JPS.

I started on Dunhills a while ago and I used to smoke Davidoff cigs too, they sell them in Canada. Pretty good, except they are light. Imported from Germany according to the package.

I smoked a pack of Camel Lights everyday for 12+ years.  I took Chantix.

The night before I quit I went to the garage at 10:30, I had a smoke, threw my cigs away, and went to bed.  I haven't had one puff since. Its been 141 days.

Those little pills work and the only side effect I had was crazy dreams.  If you are ready to quit and are having trouble I recommend you try them.  If not, smoke 'em if you got 'em!

I only miss them when I have a beer!  [drink]

I smoked Camel Wides for a long while then, to lights, then to ultra lights, switched to Lucky Strikes, they're toasted and you
can taste that. On to Drum before I quit cold turkey 13 years ago. I smoke cigars now, but only one or two a month.

because there's always one more hiding in there and on the bike the soft pack is more comfy

I really like Kamel Red Lights but can't find them easily, moved to Parlement lights but they don't last long.  I get tax free cigs now but they only have the popular stuff so for the last 4 years I've been smoking Newports.  2-3 packs a week since age 21-- hopefully thats moderate enough.

the irony about chantix is it makes some people feel suicidal.  just a heads up if anyone tries it.

how much damage do you think smoking does to your lungs? THis is a personal question, ive seen samples of whole lungs of smokers and all that. But we all have a different tolerance and reaction to cigarettes, some people after smoking for 10 years will develop cancer, another person can run a marathon with a cig in their mouth.

I personally dont smoke to much, but i can defintely feel a huge difference in performance when im working out. When i was PTing 3x a week at 0545 running 7 miles a day with various cals, i couldnt touch more than 2cigs a night if i went drinking without it seriously affecting my performance.

That being said, i still wont smoke more than 6 cigs in a night, even when im training hard. i feel disgusting after that point. I still need to find out what that fresh rolled stuff is called. I was so hammered when i tried them, but they were make the beast with two backsing GREAT! Any idea if these are worst than ciggys? I assume they arent as bad for sole fact that its fresh tobacco, not some processed bullcrap

I smoked 1+ packs a day from the age of 13 till I was 31. One day that was it, I used the patch for 2 weeks then threw em away. It's been 6 1/2 years since I've had a cig. I cant really stand the smell anymore but when I smoked I loved every minute of  it.

I smoke a pack a week, started with Djarum Blacks and Sampoerna X-Tras. (cloves)

Moved on from brand to brand trying everything until I found the best - "The Fiver" by Mashall and McGearty, variety: "The Standard." Other notable smokes are Export A Lights, George Karelias and Sons, American Spirit Perique Blend (the rest are blech), and my staple for when I can't find the others, Parliament Lights.

I started at 15, smoking whatever I could steal or bum. Quit at 19. I used to have a HUGE collection of $2 bills and burned up all but 3-4 on cigarettes when they were just under $2/pk. Started again at 26, I averaged anywhere from 1.5-3 packs a day, depending on my mood.

When I was a full time musician, I smoked about .5-1 during the day, but I'd smoke 2-2.5 packs over the course of an evening gig (about 6 hours total). Usually couldn't speak much the next morning.

Now I average about 1 pack every 3-5 days, it mostly depends on my work schedule. I don't smoke any until quitting time on days that I do estimates and meet with clients, cause that's just plain unprofessional, imho.

As far as brands go, I've smoked all your standard gas station fodder over the years and my current smoke is Marlboro Mediums, but they're really starting to get old. I generally tend to stick to some form of Marlboro, but it's time for a change. I might go down to the local smoke shop and see what they have.

On a side note, I've noticed that Marlboros taste slightly different here in TN than they do where I lived in VA. The ones here in TN always seem a tad bitter and stale-ish compared to the ones I got back in my hometown in VA (which happened to be 1.5 hours from the Marlboro plant). I've even brought back TN packs to 2 friends in VA to confirm this and they both agreed. Seems odd to me.

edit- math is hard.
