Title: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on September 27, 2016, 07:14:06 PM G/day everyone ... I picked this tired old M750 up cheap to use as a donor bike for a Cafe Racer project, that was three odd years ago, tempus fugit ... Id like to share its slow progress in a build thread with you guys.

Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on September 27, 2016, 07:31:20 PM I dont like the flat valve covers much, after a search I came across some SD covers.
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/22g_zpseqiyghlk.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/22g_zpseqiyghlk.jpg.html) They needed a little work to take the oil cooler. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/22h_zpsjutpbqdi.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/22h_zpsjutpbqdi.jpg.html) Ive now moved the oil cooler mount onto the horizontal exhaust valve cover, now oil lines can go straight to the oil cooler instead of having to weave up past the timing belt cover, much neater. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/22e_zpsrcbyawmy.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/22e_zpsrcbyawmy.jpg.html) Fitted new colisbro valve guides and valves, gave the ports/tracts a clean up and port matched them. Not much new to report koko, as you can see, the bike is down to the bare bones, I will try and get the frame etc in for powder coating next week ... In my odd spare moment I have been able to indulge in my polishing fixation though, this weekend the triple trees :) (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/at49_zpsopuo88jk.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/at49_zpsopuo88jk.jpg.html) Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on October 04, 2016, 09:55:58 PM The Castings are as rough as a 45 WLA Harley, well nearly ;) Before (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/at46_zpsmtq1m05y.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/at46_zpsmtq1m05y.jpg.html) After (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/at45_zpsq2zpjtvx.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/at45_zpsq2zpjtvx.jpg.html) Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on October 04, 2016, 10:14:40 PM Tidied up the top yoke, removed some lugs etc

Ive ditched the OEM stem bolt and picked up a revolver bolt, also as Im going to fit some clubmans, I needed to space the risers by 10mm to make room for the fork top adjusters (Ive upgraded to some NOS M900 fully adjustables) ... I like the looks of carbon and it cuts weight. Ive recovered the OEM seat in leather, I will show you the result but first some more carbon ;D (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/DSC00222_zps80ican3f.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/DSC00222_zps80ican3f.jpg.html) Now for the seat ... Im pondering on where to fit the elec fuel pump, Ive opted to ditch the OEM vacuum effort for a low psi elec, not easy to find a spot thats low, not too hot and out of sight :-\ (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/DSC00223_zpslckfbh7u.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/DSC00223_zpslckfbh7u.jpg.html) I had problems making up the pipes for the oil cooler, everytime I tried to fit a hose end it would go pear shaped ... I eventually found (after many attempts) if you stretch out the stainless sleeve before you cut it is less likely to splay and bundle. I think it looks great, and maybe it's just a bit nit-picky, but I'd like to see that oil cooler mounted above the horizontal cylinder rather than below it. Thanks NAKID ... Not nit-picky just different interpretations lol ... I wanted to cut down on the oil pipes length/mass ... Imo the oil pipes look ugly stretching up past the belt covers, keep them short and direct. Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Nibor on November 09, 2016, 01:55:04 AM I'm loving the oil cooler setup! Doing exactly the same to mine! Was planning to run an 848 cooler, so both lines enter and exit on RHS, clean. But funds are telling me to try it with the oem cooler first haha. Funds also are yet to allow the lovely finned valve covers. If you know a cheap source yell out!!
My build is very slow. Weeks at a time without setting foot in the shed. BUT I did paint a couple more bits yesterday. Picking up some new rubber dampers for the freshly painted SS valve cover which will mount the oil cooler, then I measure up and fit my lines. Thanks for the tip regarding stretching the stainless first!! Is that an angled fitting coming from the upper line out of the engine? I got all straight swivel fittings due to my original plan, now hoping the curve will naturally avoid contact with the exhaust/head.... Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on November 09, 2016, 05:07:37 AM Thanks MonsterHPD [thumbsup]
Pleased you like the cooler set up Nibor, Im happy with the way it came out ... I used a AN6-6AN universal 45 degree oil line hose fitting for the top line to kick away from the starter and direct the pipe to the left. ... Here is an example, Im sure there are cheaper sellers out there. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AN6-6AN-Universal-45-Degree-Swivel-Oil-Fuel-Line-Hose-End-Fitting-Adapter-Black-/171889114329?hash=item280563bcd9 Will keep an eye out for some finned covers for you bud :) (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k86/laichmeister/DSC00227_zpst0kl6hob.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/laichmeister/media/DSC00227_zpst0kl6hob.jpg.html) Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: NAKID on November 09, 2016, 11:19:25 AM Thanks koko64 :) Thanks NAKID ... I understand the reasoning completely. I don't like the lines going over the belt covers either, but the could be routed on the left side of the bike. Either way, it's coming along great! Keep it up! I'm also feeling the pain with the oil lines, with a lack of correct tooling. my patience is fraying [laugh] cleeeean brake callipers! NOS? or cleaned up your old ones? if so any tips? mine are filthy, and the brembo goldmine paint seems to soak up brake dust. damn all that polish looks good! Yeah Nibor, the braiding is well abrasive, Ive left the lines loose for the moment until I get some line clips and plan out final routing etc. I cut my oil line sleeve with a dremel and a dremel cutting disc, how you doing yours ? No cleaning tips for the Brembos Im afraid bud, they are indeed NOS. More polished parts in progress :) Title: Re: Love is blind, M750 Cafe Racer build Post by: Von Eisen on March 22, 2017, 08:21:40 PM Been a while since Ive posted any updates, life has been hectic ... Anyway, fettled and polished up the headers, they were pitted and nasty, took more effort than I thought but the result was worth the effort :)

If you clean those headers well before starting to remove all finger prints, and keep them clean, those things will turn the most beautiful golden color! Title: Re: Post by: greenohawk69 on March 24, 2017, 09:25:16 AM Great job.
