Title: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: Springbok_Rider on February 15, 2017, 07:19:48 AM Hi all,
Just wanted to see if anyone can recommend a decent pair of saddlebags for my 2010 Monster 1100? I rode from the UK to Norway again last year though got stranded in Denmark when the chain snapped and ripped a hole in the crankcase. In Norway now and in the spring will be riding back to the UK to get a new MOT, then onward to Spain via Switzerland and Italy (perhaps through France instead of Germany this time). I usually just have a backpack but it killed my right shoulder last time so going the saddlebag route. I've seen a couple on eBay from Germany though it looks like they'll sit on the exhausts. Not sure whether they're designed properly for the heat or not. Thought I'd check here first if anyone can make a recommendation. Much appreciated. Antony Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: koko64 on February 15, 2017, 12:55:47 PM There are some great tailbags that strap to the pillion seat.
Sponsors Monsterparts and Motowheels have them iirc. Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: NAKID on February 15, 2017, 01:45:02 PM I don't know if there is a kit for the 1100, but I have the SW-Motech Blaze bags on my M821. I love them!
Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: Springbok_Rider on February 16, 2017, 02:17:22 AM I had a tail bag before which I used on a previous bike - despite precautions it rubbed away at the fairing over the long trip. Less of a problem with the Ducati since I can take off the rear fairing so I'll look into it, thanks.

Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: mister704 on March 27, 2017, 07:00:36 PM Glad you asked this because I am struggling right now trying to find either saddle or tail bag that will work with my Spark exhaust because of the tight clearance.
I definitely need something that either goes around it or in the seat itself. Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Bought both for $200 shipped in total. That way I can keep the lines of the bike without adding a ton of resistance since the tank is already small, hopefully this doesn't create a negative impact on gas mileage Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? How do you go being a short bloke on the 1100? Being a short bloke myself, I have wondered what the reach to an 1100's bars would be like. Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? No real leaning at all and I sit flat foot at stop lights. All in all its a comfortable ride for me. Arms are not fully extended and feet sit flat on the ground....all of which is better than when I had my KTM 690 Duke Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? I'd be interested in getting this set up. Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Post by: koko64 on May 02, 2017, 02:49:27 AM Looks great. I just scored the very similar DP bag kit for my Hyper.

The front bag attaches by there being a clip(like one from backpack) which is screwed down using the middle screw of the tank under the seat. The bag then locks to that clasp and has 2 loop ties on the front which swing down around each side of the bike and through the frame and back up to the bag which you can then pull to tighten against the tank. Simple but genius. (http://mediamk.shopatron.com/media/mfg/1776/product_image/9d18b5914cc484367bea214164d66a73.jpg) Title: Re: Monster 1100 Saddlebags? Found the rear seat bag on a forum and then went on ebay same day and found tank bag and both were delivered on the same day. I am a short guy and had no issues whatsoever with (1) swinging my leg over the back to mount the bike or (2) kicking the leg between the two bags to mount the bike. As well, I had no clearance issues riding as I still was able to see the instrument cluster. Here is the pick of the actual day I left to head to ATL from Washington DC. Had 3 days worth of stuff including a extra pair of sneakers and a pair of flip flops. Just used the non-vacuum needed vacuum sealed bags and was able to tote much more than needed. Didnt even have to expand the tank bag. To see full pick of how it straps onto the bike (https://i.imgur.com/zukDFlh.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/zukDFlh.jpg) |
