Hi all,
First, let me introduce you my bike....Monster 796abs, y.2011. I bought it in 2015 in really mint condition with 12.000km.
The day I bought it

After that, first thing it was, mount back a OEM small wind shield
(https://s4.mojalbum.com/587124_18084524_23455295/ducati-monster-796/23455295.jpg)
Because, I changed the oil (Preventive), I also changed the air filter. I go fo K&N and open the air intake housing (its not esthetic, i know, but it functional)

....and like that, i was ridin around for a year.....
And so, as I was riding for a year, we all know (honesty), that OEM exhaust system it is.....well...it's not great and Ducati shouldn't sound like that. I start planning what to do. I want something different, something unique, something custom made.....! Luckily for me, I have a great friend who works at AkrapoviÄ factory. So, we make a plan and he was willing to go for it.
As first, I bought 2 OEM exhaust manifolds as we need it to fixing it to engine
(https://s4.mojalbum.com/587124_18084524_23748576/ducati-monster-796/23748576.jpg)
As the bike was at friend's house....i decide to start a new project.
From crashed Monster, I bought all plastics (and they need it a repair). Specially the front bumper right side was broken (and without a missing piece) it will be a brain damage.

And that plastics were taken to local master....and hoping for the best....
So, the bike was at friend's house, plastics at master.....I knew, I will have to do something with handlebar. Because it will be a soft transformation and going for a Sport Cafe (not exactly the Cafe Racer) style....i try a clip ons. They were too extreme for me....! But th Friend who is working on a exhaust, it's also a big Ducati fan and a Ducati rider....he used on one of his ex Monster that solution for handlebar.....it was twist and rotated....the OEM handlebar...
Start de mounting handlebar

Handlebar back on bike.....twisted and rotated

For riding is much better as OEM position. It easier for cornering....and have no problem with back....i made 500km one way to WDW this year and was no problem.
I get back plastics from repair....the missing piece was made great....! I started with sanding and primer....

Thank you for your post.
About tuning the motor: have to see it in next servis (Desmo servis 24k km) how the sparks looks like (A/F level).
But in plan it's to tune ecu by Desmo-Racing!
Cheers,

[thumbsup] Desmo-Racing use the Rexxer tuning system?
They remap OEM ecu. Depends on what you want and what's done on bike.

His company isn't problem. And I spoke with him later, the problem was in brand new Bridgestone tyres. They supposed to have some coating when new. I ride often with that guy and such lane crossing, he doesn't have problem with it.....
Any 'coating' on a tire, which I seriously doubt exists, would be gone in the first couple of minutes.
Some brands new tires, do use some kind a coating. Just telling you, what he said (funny feeling on tires, later was much better)....on other side, it's true he bought tires on Friday....ride was on sunday....! He is more experienced rider as I am, rides for longer.....
I like to wipe my new tyres down with Prepsol or Shellite. A good shop I know uses Shellite (Shellight?) to wipe down new tyres fitted as a courtesy. Riding style is another thing as I'm picky about who I ride with nowdays and there's a few guys I won't ride with. Like dancing you gotta have a compatible style.

Totally agree.
I'm sorry to say this, but he is riding too fast for his riding skill level.
(You can see him riding too close to the center line, and cutting off so many times.
Not because he choose to, but because he CAN NOT keep the bike in his lane.)

Correct.

BS. Or, the old story from 1970s and 80s.
Back then, yes, tire manufacturers used so called "release agent", which is kind of lubricant, that makes releasing the tires from the mold easier. And brand new tires had them still on the tread surface, hence they were slippery in first 50 miles or so.
This is 2018. More than 10 years ago, motorcycle tire manufacturers stopped using release agent.
You can call and ask Bridgestone customer service. (Or, Pirelli, Dunlop, Michellin, ...)

As if we all didn't do this while accumulating skills [roll]
Study the videos you take, Roger, and learn from them. You generally follow a better line than the Yamaha rider, but you are ON the throttle a lot - to catch up with your friend = stressful. Better skills = even pace on the straight and through corners.

Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions.
I just told you what friend said about feeling on brand new tyres.
I ride with him a lot and it's true he never crossed split lane so often and so much....! And I am not defending him or anything.

Does anyone knows, if it's possible swap the engine on Monster 796 â€"> 1098? Specially, with fixing it on frame...? Not interested in discussion of reasonably, just if it's possible....
Thank you for any info and reply
Yes - it fits 8)
Suspension won't fit. Probably not enough room for the radiator. Maybe clearance issues tank/heads... It has been done and there are pictures, but it wasn't excactly a bolt on job :P
Common issues can be around swingarm fitment, throttle bodies/airbox and water cooling components.
I reckon an 1100Evo motor is an easier candidate and with intake and ecu tuning can give 100+hp/80 ftlb and exciting power characteristics. I miss the power of my HM1100Evo.
If you do use an 1098 motor I'll be watching. :D
Thank you both for replies. The biggest issue I see, is with cooling radiators and specially loosing an ABS.....
It was just a talk last night, if it's possible and how if....and what's better choice 1098 or 1198...

Fly over the topic about hard tuned 696. Naah,....I thought it was more bolt on bolt project. It was interesting talk and might be interesting, but like it said....left behind. And non ABS is for me not acceptable
Cheers
Let' just hypothetically said that, i like the idea of swapping the engine on my 796. Which one 1098/1198 have ABS and TC. And what all need it making it works (abs,tc).....!
And for last....besides the engine, what all would be need it for project like that.
Tnx.
Ducati is upgrading their website. At the moment I'm not able to find them, but there used to be a Models Archive where we could read all the tech info about every model.
I guess the info is listed somewhere else too.

1098R ?
1098R supposed to have ABS. Correct me if wrong, all 1098 engines are the same, just the ECU are different. So, for ABS, the ECU is the one who controls it?!
AFAIK, no **98R model will have ABS.
'09 1098R has wheel speed sensors, but braking is direct, no detour through ABS module.
Honestly though, this is akin to noticing that the refrigerator door is open while the house around it is on fire.
Relevant in isolation, but ignoring the larger problem at hand.
SWAG, this project would require a budget north of $10k.

It's on the back of the engine - right hand side - facing rear. An inch below the rear engine bolt.

I know, kind a rather turn sooner, as do not want to be too late in corner and go out from road....! Agree that smooter is faster, but i am nit racing against anyone.....
What Stopintime is saying is that you are taking most corners (especially faster ones) with
Early Apex.
Mid, Early, and Late Apex(http://xboxracingpro.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/corner_Apex_3.gif?x44894)
This probably helps to visualize what he's telling you.
The red line, which is early apex, is what you are doing.
On the track, the downside of early apex is slowest corner exit.
On the street, the biggest problem with early apex is that you will run out of available space on the road (= your safety margin) toward the end of the corner.
Look at the picture again, and imagine there's a oncoming vehicle, and the driver / rider thinks and behaves the same way as you do (early apex).
Or, there's construction going on, crushed bike, oil or sand patch . ...
As you said yourself, you are not racing against anyone, then ...
slow down at corner entry.
Beginners (almost always) do early apex, because of fear. (" I'm not gonna make that corner if I don't start cornering process early".)
Not so beginner riders do early apex when they start / try going fast, carrying too much corner entry speed.
If you feel uncomfortable doing (trying to do) late apex, then, you are going into the corner too fast.
THE ONLY ONE ADVANTAGE of early apex is, on the track, when you are trying to outbreak someone at the end of the straight line, then block his line toward corer exit (as you inevitably will run wide).
There's NO ADVANTAGE doing early apex on the street.
Going fast, start turn-in early, you are only increasing the chance of getting sideswiped by oncoming car.
That's what Stopintime meant.
@S21FOLGORE:
Only hat down for that post. Whery helpful and taken only with positive. Will think about that or even better, take some track day academy day.......!
There in second photo.....the green line.....on my opinion, you sooner become without space, pass the middle line if (too)faster in corner.
I am cutting only turns which are clearly visible.....
I ride for 4 years....that's my 5 season....with approximately 8-12.000km per year
Kind Regards
Trying to practice the tail braking in corners.....
On my opinion, the yellow line would be perfect
(https://s4.mojalbum.com/587124_5553792_24926631/razno/24926631.jpg)
Well, it is great that you think about riding and practice when you are actually riding out on the road.
(A lot of people just,... ride without thinking, as if they believe rational thinking has nothing to do with riding motorcycles.)
That said, the yellow line you drew is NOT ideal, and NOT going to happen unless you are going really slow.
The first thing.
Why it's not ideal ?
Because you get in inside of the corner too early, you place yourself way too close to the center line in left turn (in US, and where you drive on the right side of the road), and you loose visibility in the right corner.
Getting too close to the center line in a series of tight corners is just an invitation for sideswipe accident.
The second thing.
You really can't do that. Why?
The first thing you need to understand is ...
Newton's 1st law of motion
(AKA : the law of inertia)
An object at rest remains rest, and an object in motion remains in motion with the same velocity
unless the object is acted upon by a net external force.
Velocity is a vector (magnitude AND direction),
Speed is a scalar (magnitude only).
A motorcycle that's turning around on the perfect circular line at constant speed is
accelerating.
(The situation is, the magnitude of velocity which is called speed is not changing, but the direction is continuously changing.
Acceleration is also a vector. The definition of acceleration is the rate at an object changes its velocity.
If an object is changing the velocity, it is accelerating.)
A motorcycle moving on straight line with no change in speed is, well, not accelerating.
An object (motorcycle + rider, maybe + passenger + luggage) is moving with a constant velocity,
and it will remain in the same motion (moving in the same direction with the same speed) UNLESS
a net external force is applied.
Okay, so that's the first thing you need to understand, IF YOU REALLY WANT to understand motorcycle cornering.
(Well, the logical side of motorcycle cornering. )
So why it is so important to understand Newton's 1st law of motion?
Because it's directly related to this subject that many, many riders misunderstand.
Centrifugal force doesn't exist.
Then, what force(s) are working on a motorcycle while cornering?

The boarder with Italy is closed, you can pass .....if you have business trip or something like that. Similar with Austria......closed.
You can entry to Slovenia, only if you have a tourist reservation in country.

Are you on the Monster in the Adriatic video?
If so, it seems like you turn in later a few places AND discover that you're finished turning much much sooner. Correct? If you were on a track, that could be used to increase the corner speed - in, mid and exit. On the street, it should be used for smoothness and enjoyment. It's very cool to turn as fast, or faster than your friends, but with a relaxed feeling.

Yes [thumbsup] coming out of your 'best' corners, when you turn late, looks like a bullet compared to the early turns. If you ever get to do a track day you will see that you gain 10-20 meters by doing it this way.
Very cool - keep up the good work [thumbsup]

Absolutely agree with you. And, I know I wasn't born with all the knowledge and skills, so like to listen and accept advices from more experience riders. I have no problem with ego. As I mentioned, also the track days with “school “ was in plan, but the all Covid situation turn it upside down.
