I'm trying to pit some order here and avoid confusion :) (ill probably end up having the opposite result)
DuCaTini has brought this to our attention a few days ago:
On Sunday 21 september the MOB, the Monster Owners Belgium (Ducati Owners Club) wants to aim for a new world record: they want to bring together the largest number of Ducati Monsters and set the new world record in their name.
At present the only record of this type in the Guiness Book of World Records for one type of one brand has been put down by Yamaha with the TDM (206 bikes).
The benefits of this day will go to the organisation called “Zebraâ€. Zebra, is a non-profit organisation helping children that are involved in traffic accidents, eigther having been injured in the accident or having lost a loved one.

...the plan is to see what these guys come up with and then BEAT THEM! [evil]
How do we do this?
Well, we need support form local and national comunities, organizations and if we can raise funds for a good cause, even better!
Here is the "plan"
there is verry little basic planning here... ;D
1) location = somewhere between LA and SF
2) date = sometime next summer
3) get a charity involved = Riders for Health(i hope) (http://www.riders.org/)
4) find sponsors
5) beat the record!
What we need:
1) apply with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS done
2) URL jbuble
3) host and design web page Kirk Hayes of artistichosting.com
4) design everything else DuCaTiNi+
5) administrate the site
6) find a charity
7) find support/sponsorships Ducati+BP?
8) volonteers on field
9) coordination/logistics/moral support bobspapa+johnC+joekarati
...and millions of other things but lets start here :)
have expressed their interest:
jbuble
squeak
panman
gm2
I can help with the upkeep of the webpage if you need some admins...
I'll show up and enter.

we CAN DO THIS ;D
would be awesome, but I think regardless you will have guys on the east coast pregnant doging if its there, and west cost guys complaining if its on the RIGHT coast.....
I would love to be a part, if I can get there with the bike.

i know... i'm an east coaster...
but logistically... CA makes the most sense.
if we're seriously going to attempt a world breaking record, those of us on the east coast have to get over the fact that the west coast is a better locale... they have more monsters.
i'm cool with it. [thumbsup]
i plan on borrowing a monster from someone in CA that won't be attending. ;D

I have more monsters drive past me in a day than some of the states in the US have in them. If it's a serious attempt, here is better.
It would be nice if we could have one of the many race tracks for a day or two to set this up. Maybe we could get one as a sponsor or at least a discount price. Laguna Seca ;D
Indy Moto GP makes more sense and we could get Vicki from Ducati.net involved. - Gene

So on the promotion front I'm thinking there would have to be posters in every Duc shop in the country, bombing of all the Duc blogs, sky writers, etc.
On the incentive front there would need to be other reasons to go:
A concert or other entertainment (strip tease by DantheMan maybe)
Raffles?
Awards (furthest to ride in, coolest Bike, loudest Bike, etc.)
Bulk rates at near by hotels and camp grounds.
Free monsters to anyone named Carl
You get the idea.

...at this point all options are opened. Tag along with LagunaGP or any other motorcycle event, totaly separate event, track, parkinglot, joels back yard ;D
i think that much of this depends on how much we get supporters/sponsors involved
of course to get the MOST MONSTERS out there, it will have to be a FREE event...maybe just a small fee for the charity...
there are PLENTY of tracks between LA and SF so
that is definitly an option

...well, once we have decided the charity, im sure that folks on "the other coast" can donate...
also many other things will probably not require a west coast presence...it is a WORLD record so i guess any sponsorship from any where is welcome...
...we will need shirts, posters, flyers and what not...
i think just about anything you can provide would help :)

Not to be a buzz kill, but wouldn't Harley own the record of most number of bikes of the same brand at a meetup?
I mean hell, there are way over 206 Harley's at a local bike night. And that is in ohio.

What about Inifineon Raceway?
I sent them an e-mail and got a fairly positive responce.
Robert,
Please keep me posted as your event unfolds. Our raceway's 2009 schedule is full, however if we could somehow manage to include this with the AMA event weekend the possibility would be higher as we have the staffing and infrastructure in place. Please contact me directly with any additional questions, I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Bob Richards
...thanks Bob!!,
thats great! Please keep in touch with Infineon!!
A race track is definitly a good place to have a parade of this sort...and if its paired with a motorcycle event even better (i think)...
we have some initial contacts going on with Laguna as well... :)
I do think that what determins where the better location will be, is availability ( duh), accessability and to some extent the sponsors indications.
So keep the ideas coming! Every little bit of help will...ummm..HELP! :)

Has a location been set for sure?
I've got some friends with enough land in Morro Bay.
well Lebanon is only 1547 miles for me. . . . . I'm in, ROADTRIP!!!!
Why not make it a Monster Track Day as well.
You guys need a Big National event.
ok this is official record for the largest gathering of one model of motorcycle?
.
Currently held by the yamaha tdms
The Belgians will break it next month.
Then say you break it next summer?
whens the Sturgis bke rally?
cos isf someone form a Harley club gets the idea into their head to go for an official record then thats it game overfor anyone else
curious...
when you say same make and model, which of the following best fits that description
1) Ducati Monster
or
2) Ducati Monster 695 (etc...)
Good point. ;)
I guess I saw it as a chance to maybe break a record, and if we don't break it due to whatever reason, then who make the beast with two backsing cares. It's an excuse to meet a bunch of people who ride monsters, raise some money for charity, and maybe make some friends. You make it what you want it to be so you either make it an adventure and opportunity or you make it a failure. :-\
And we had pretty much decided on somewhere in Cali.

...well, the record is "largest parade of Ducati Monsters motorcycles".
There are several similar records already set:
largest parade of Harley Davidson motorcycles
largest parade of BMW motorcycles
largest parade of Yamaha motorcycles
WE will be beating the record set by the Belgians on Sept 21st, next summer.
Any vehicle that is called "DUCATI and MONSTER" can be in the parade...400, 600, 620, 695, 696, 750, 800, 900, s2r 800, s2r 1000, s4r, s4rs, s4rt and what ever Ducati Monster comes out of the Borgo Panigale factory between now and then ;D
The location will most likely be in Cali because California is (by far) the area where the most number of Monsters are located.
Its simply a practical reason.
A track day-weekend event is a strong possibility 8)
Steve, as soon as i have more info on where, when, mission statment etc. i will let you know about sponsors. Your help will be greatly apreciated :)

I hate to rain on the parade but why not pick a neutral location like Barber, Miller? It might pull in more support from owners and sponsors alike.
I don't know on what basis Cal has the most monsters but assuming that is true from a state perspective, I doubt that it is true from a geographic perspective. Wouldn't it be wiser to run a survey of participants by selecting locations in several geographic areas and see what type of response we get so we can really set a record, one that will be difficult to break. Just some thoughts - Gene

Sure, we can debate some geographic areas.
You guys think Norcal, Socal, or Central Cal?
Seriously-Cali is one of the largest Ducati markets out there, and at our annual Duc day up in the Bay Area, we probably easily have over a hundred monsters.
good luck guys and gals.
if DiTR is too far for me then cali is def to far. it would be fun to ride out, but not riding the monster on hwys for 2 days straight.
besides, maybe this way we can try to get the east coast tog ang up on and beat the record set by the west coast.
mmmmm I say east coast challenges west coast... Was a joke, Cali is just so darn far for anyone to the left of say Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and new Mexico. Anyway thats my 2 cents good luck yall!
This is why I advocate having it here.
This was one of the local fundraisers-not the biggest event, but by no means a small one.
