Title: Radiator guards Post by: RavnMonster on August 01, 2008, 06:15:21 AM I saw an older S4 at a bike show last week and it had a guard on the front of the radiator. I was wondering how many of you water cooled engine guys are using one of these and how important you think it would be to have one?
thanks Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: scooby on August 01, 2008, 07:20:23 AM I have one on my 01S4 from www.coxracingroup.com - however the owner is an acquaintance so the price was well worth it... However, I do know replacing a radiator is WAY more expensive then protecting one... [laugh]
Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: Ranxerox on August 17, 2008, 04:40:42 PM I also purchsed a guard from Cox Racing. I like the look and of course - its great protection. Note: To install the guard, you will need to remove the metal plate that is attached at the bottom of the central steering shaft. Cox did say that if I mailed them the plate - that they would "modify" it so that it would not intefer with the guard. I decided to leave it off. Should buy a guard for the lower radiator.

Has no affect on cooling. Just keeps the rocks and other big stuff outta there. I have both the rad & oil guards. Good stuff! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: Carman on August 18, 2008, 06:36:21 AM Has no affect on cooling. Just keeps the rocks and other big stuff outta there. I have both the rad & oil guards. Good stuff! [thumbsup] Good deal, will fabricate some this time home. I haven't had any cooling problems on this bike like my other but I don't want to start now.thanks again hyperone Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: Spider on August 19, 2008, 04:22:58 AM Myself and some of the boys down under just got our Cox racing radiator guards....they are a nice piece of kit!
and we just run the old air cooled two valves - you boys with your refrigerators ought to protect em plus it 'blacks' out more of the engine which can be a nice aesthetic touch depending on how you want the bike to look. Have a good ride Spider Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: Bbrent on August 19, 2008, 07:57:35 AM +1 Cox Racing Group

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just got my cox guards and was wondering about that metal plate. I just test fit the guard and I figured that I would have to remove that plate. Does anyone know what it's for? Is it just a guard for crap flying off the wheel maybe? Wondering if I should get it modified so that it fits with the cox guards or just toss it. Thanks! Title: Re: Radiator guards Post by: hypurone on October 06, 2009, 03:59:40 AM It is an air deflector. Some will argue it is for keeping water out of the airbox but it is to deflect the maximum amount of air thru the rad. I removed mine when installing my Cox guards and have had no problem with cooling. Ditch it and be done with it....
