I saw an older S4 at a bike show last week and it had a guard on the front of the radiator. I was wondering how many of you water cooled engine guys are using one of these and how important you think it would be to have one?

thanks

I have one on my 01S4 from www.coxracingroup.com - however the owner is an acquaintance so the price was well worth it... However, I do know replacing a radiator is WAY more expensive then protecting one... [laugh]

I also purchsed a guard from Cox Racing. I like the look and of course - its great protection. Note: To install the guard, you will need to remove the metal plate that is attached at the bottom of the central steering shaft. Cox did say that if I mailed them the plate - that they would "modify" it so that it would not intefer with the guard. I decided to leave it off. Should buy a guard for the lower radiator.

so did it effect the cooling at all that you noticed?  I was thinking of making one of these myself.

Has no affect on cooling. Just keeps the rocks and other big stuff outta there. I have both the rad & oil guards. Good stuff!  [thumbsup]

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

Good deal, will fabricate some this time home.  I haven't had any cooling problems on this bike like my other but I don't want to start now.

Myself and some of the boys down under just got our Cox racing radiator guards....they are a nice piece of kit!

and we just run the old air cooled two valves - you boys with your refrigerators ought to protect em

plus it 'blacks' out more of the engine which can be a nice aesthetic touch depending on how you want the bike to look.

Have a good ride

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just got my cox guards and was wondering about that metal plate. I just test fit the guard and I figured that I would have to remove that plate. Does anyone know what it's for? Is it just a guard for crap flying off the wheel maybe? Wondering if I should get it modified so that it fits with the cox guards or just toss it. Thanks!

It is an air deflector. Some will argue it is for keeping water out of the airbox but it is to deflect the maximum amount of air thru the rad. I removed mine when installing my Cox guards and have had no problem with cooling. Ditch it and be done with it....

We just got set up as dealers for Cox. We are going to be putting in an order soon.
Anyone interested in a group buy for their radiator guards?
