Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: duc_fan on August 06, 2008, 01:01:21 PM Hey Mo, that Barnett clutch pack... are those aluminum plates & basket, or the stock-replacement steel? What about the pressure plate, is that any kind of blingy aftermarket one?
I'm looking for an excuse to mod the clutch on the SS... it's getting grabby (probably just needs cleaned and inspected...but I could use an excuse to mod it). Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: Mother on August 06, 2008, 01:09:08 PM Hey Mo, that Barnett clutch pack... are those aluminum plates & basket, or the stock-replacement steel? Let the bible vulture get his clutch. [clap] Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: Mother on August 06, 2008, 01:19:02 PM Fine

I just made the assumption (based on the original post) that it'd be pretty low on your priority list. (I wouldn't have asked if I knew you had a dry clutch... not tryin' to steal parts out from under anybody) So yeah... guess I am a vulture, swooping in on unneeded parts. ;) Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: Mother on August 06, 2008, 01:34:27 PM Yeah I talked with him about it
got about the same price and an extensive parts list but I just don't see why it has to be that involved I would think all you need is to change out the clutch-side cover from a 1000ds and get a dry clutch and you should be good Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: Visolara on August 06, 2008, 02:39:33 PM its an aluminum clutch basket, and pressure plate for sure, I need to check on clutch plates, I would think they are steel (more durable for this purpose then aluminum) but will need to check when I get home.
I think the pressure plate is anodized red too. :) Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: herm on August 06, 2008, 07:46:42 PM to recap

He's moving away from that thing to button downs!!!! :o Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: duc_fan on August 07, 2008, 11:29:02 AM Hey Mom, the other thing I've heard about on wet-to-dry clutch conversions is the need for some kind of custom bushing for the output shaft. And you'd probably want to use a 900 case, as the 1000ds case might be slightly different (clutch is the same, but I know the left-side case is different, and the right-side may be slightly different as well).
its an aluminum clutch basket, and pressure plate for sure, I need to check on clutch plates, I would think they are steel (more durable for this purpose then aluminum) but will need to check when I get home. I think the pressure plate is anodized red too. :) Red anodized pressure plate would be bootiful! My only concern on having steel plates in an aluminum basket is premature wear because of the dissimilar metals. From what I can tell, one either wants aluminum-on-aluminum, or steel-on-steel. However... the Barnett basket I saw on their website had steel inserts for wear purposes. If that's the case then one has steel-on-steel wear surfaces, which would be fine. Anyways... I'd definitely like to take a looksie at this clutch setup. Then we'd need to determine the fair value and I need to see if I can afford it. Title: Re: Maintenance List Post by: Mother on August 08, 2008, 06:11:57 PM Hey Mom, the other thing I've heard about on wet-to-dry clutch conversions is the need for some kind of custom bushing for the output shaft. The 620 is the same as a 750/800 The DS motor has totally different cases AFAIK. There was a dry clutch 5 speed motor early on and that case can be used or... you can do it Stuarts' way I read an article awhile back on the efficiency of the 620/1000ds motors as being the highest HP/Fuel Mileage per cc that Ducati has ever made in the article it made several references as to the motors being identical except the top end so either I misinterpreted the article or it was just wrong and I thought so stuarts way confused me I just need to find the case of the old motor any idea what motor it was?
