I am a total Mojito newby....Ive had some killer ones and some, not-so-good. Im usually a beer or jack and coke guy in the summer but I tried my wifes Mojito a few months back and now am in search of a good recipe.
Anyone share some Mojito insight?
HERE IS ONE:
3 fresh mint sprigs
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz light rum
club soda
In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lime slice and the remaining mint, and serve.

...remember, the sugar HAS to be the raw, brown one!!!
enjoy
I prefer simple syrup to adding direct sugar. Also, try replacing the rum with tequila.
I'm a fan of Raspberry Mojitos
- 6 oz Cruzan light rum
- 4 oz simple syrup
- 6 lime halves
- handful of raspberries
- 30 - 40 sprigs of fresh mint leaves
- club soda
Build in mixing pitcher. Press 6 lime halves and simple syrup. Add rum, mint leaves, raspberries, crush, fill with ice. Stir and top with club soda.

Drink a Guiness instead?
Muddle a little fresh ginger root in the rum before pouring it in the drink.

Guinness is great, but a mojito is just so refreshing on a crushingly humid afternoon. There is something about the combo of lime and mint that is fantastic.
Isn't that Just a Mint Julip? ???

If you are ever in the Portland Or. area go to Edgefield and get one there. They have a killer mojito that has gotten me hooked on them. Try adding the juice from a watermelon, thats not a bad twist to throw in. Also fresh mint is always better than the stuff from the store. Sorry I don't have a recipe for you, I'm still working to perfect one. Well, I should get back to that research..... ;D
Oh, so with rum everybody shakes their booty? [cheeky]

It's just a fad, it'll go away. Guiness is forever...

Looks like this "fad" has been around since before 1759:
"One story traces the mojito to a similar 16th century drink, the “El Draque,†in honor of Sir Francis Drake. It was made with tafia/aguardiente, a primitive predecessor of rum."
Right, but how long has it recently been popular? You knew what I meant smartass. It's like if I said walking around in sandals is a fad. It is, but it had been a fad before...
has Guinness always been popular in this country?
some would say it's a "fad".
probably why you got one served in a Coors Light glass. [evil]
I didn't say it's always been popular. But I wouldn't say that it has been more or less popular here since it was made popular...
Here's a good recipe from "The Mojito Company." [thumbsup] I've used it many times (more than I can remember). ;D

what women with nice butts or mojitos...?
3-5 mint leaves
1 spoonfull of sugar
1/2 lime juice
7-up
bicardi limon
splash of sweet and sour
muddle the mint, sugar and lime juice. fill glass with ice, use an ounce or two of bicardi limon, fill with 7-up, top with sweet and sour.
OK, I just tried 3 different renditions of the Mojitos listed here and they were good........Maybe it was my execution, but the bottled Bacardi stuff was better. Maybe it was the lack of labor involved or something like that. 3 mojitos made from scratch+3 bacardi bottled mojitos....this brothah is feelin pretty good!

i'll agree, only in the past couple of years have i seen people ordering mojito's like crazy in bars and restaurants...
most bartenders think they're a pain in the ass to make, too.
i'd take a guinness over a mojito anyday ;D [drink]

Have a few mojitos, and it makes sense. [thumbsup]
Some days Im in the mood for a Guiness, some days a single malt. When its hot and humid out, I like a diversion from the typical Gin and tonic or vodka tonic. Its good to mix it up a little.
And +1 on Mojitos being a PIA to make!

Since you mention the Edgefield, do the rest of the McMenamins serve good ones too?
Gustav's across the river in the 'Couv has good mojitos also. [thumbsup]
Yes, that's a German serving a Cuban! ;D

I'm not really sure. Edgefield has their own gardens on site so the mint is fresh everyday. If they run out the bartender just goes out and picks more. Plus they make this really good version of a lemon simple syrup type stuff there so it is fresh as well.
