Title: Montezuma's revenge
Post by: DucHead on August 18, 2008, 07:33:22 PM
Anyone ever have this?  :-X  :-\

How long does it take to "pass?"

I returned from Cabo San Lucas on Thursday last week, and I'm still having problems.  :-[

Consume lots of liquids to replenish what youve lost hon. Might wanna run to a doctor in the next couple of days just to be on the safe side too.

1. Keep well-hydrated.

2. Stick to bland foods (bananas, white rice, toast, saltines, etc.).

3. If necessary, Imodium or Pepto-Bismol.

4. If it doesn't get better soon, call your doctor.

1. Keep well-hydrated.good

2. Stick to bland foods (bananas, white rice, toast, saltines, etc.).BRAC (bananas rice applesauce and crackers)

3. If necessary, Imodium or Pepto-Bismol.Not immediately. If you stop the diarrhea, you stop the way to get the bug out

4. If it doesn't get better soon, call your doctor.Absolutely

Drink lotsa gatorade or pedialyte (I prefer gatorade - pedialyte tastes like crap) and eat the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast).  If it doesn't resolve in the next couple days, call your doc up for some CIPRO.  Sometimes you get a Gut bug you can't shake on without antibiotics.  Where's my nurse smiley?

+1...Diarrhea, while uncomfortable is your body's way of ridding itself of what is bad. Be careful with the petpo and such, you dont want to keep the bad stuff in. A trip to the doctor wouldn't hurt, you may have dysentary which is causes by an amoeba, antibiotics wont kill that...till then stay close to a toilet :o

If you do go to the doctor,

make sure to plan your route carefully, so you know all the public restrooms between home and the office. Just sayin'  :-\

call your doc up for some CIPRO.

That should only be used in severe cases where the individual has a preexisting medical condition where the shits are causing issues.

a good doctor would not give antibiotics for traveler's diarrhea, just drink plenty of fluids and it will pass.

Drink fluids. Has this been emphasized already?  ;)
Bactrim / Immodium
If persistent, definitely a doctor's visit.

I had a meetup with / became an initiate of this Montezuma's fellow ... or so I thought. It turned out to be giardia. If you think you've got it bad now, that g stuff is not pretty.

+1 on giardia being the wrath of hell.....  Have the doctor test you for it if the runs don't clear up on their own.

If you have diarhea for more than a few days go to the doctor.  Most "normal" diarhea should clear up in 48 hours with common over-the-counter meds. If not, it is something that needs a physician.

+1...If it is actually Montezuma's revenge go to the doc and get a shot...they have one that will have you feeling fine in less than 12 hours.
If it is a bug...well...mine hung around for about 14 months...*Graphic description* Looked like green leafy film in the toilet...pretty gross!

what is your definition of "normal" diarrhea?

should we take diarrhea advice from a guy with an enema bag as an avatar?

why waste the co-pay?

I had a friend that was laid up for 6 days with a drinking water mistake in mexico.

Doctor told him to drink a lot of fluids and ride it out. Antiobiotics usually just "mask" the bug

Do you have any idea how you contracted this?

It may give you a better idea of what you have. . .

and I'm headed to Cabo in a couple of months, and need to know where NOT to eat!

He will be more than happy to fill you in on where to eat in Cabo and the fun things to do there. It  would be worth your while,he's got excellent connections there.

If you already have the runs, don't drink fruit juices.  They just add to the runs.

white diet +1.  rice, boiled chicken, easy to digest foods.

hope it passes quickly.
