How do you think BMW K1200R stacks up to any Monster?

I Just saw Bangkok Dangerous with Nicolas Cage. In the movie he rides a BMW K1200R that I feel look great. Made me think I my like to own one. In terms of handling how do you think the BMW K1200R stacks up to any Monster? Any one have both?

I like the K1200R, but I'd never be able to afford one.  AFAIK, there are a few issues plaguing the K-bikes in general through.  Don't know 1st hand, but a BMW owner friend was talking about them having issues ~

Much larger and heavier than any Monster.  The K is more of a cruise missile, where the Monster is a sidewinder.

I rode one a few months ago during the demo days up here. The comment above pretty much sums it up.

To elaborate a bit...

Rode one at a Demo day, with a pillion.
Handling is good, front end feels a little 'different', not bad though.
Suspension is good.
Feels lighter than it is.
And it's *stupid* fast.

I suspect your maintenance may be less, but that's based on nothing more than the bmw reputation when it comes to bikes.



They do build some awfully nice machines. None of them are cheap.

A good friend of mine has a K1200. I have an S4rs. His bike has plenty of power in the straights but it can't hang with the Mostro in the twisty stuff. Great looking and riding bikes for sure just not my exact tastes. His bike is a mid 90's so it's probably a little dated compared to the newer ones.

I met up with a guy on a new BMW K1200S at Mt. Laguna in California.  He had ridden the bike from Arizona just so he could ride the twisties in California for the day and head back to Arizona before night fall.  He bought the K1200 specifically so he could travel long distances and then have fun when he got there.  He followed my 1098 through the mountains at a very spirited pace and only dropped back a little bit on the really tight stuff.  After that he was off to see the ocean and head back home for dinner.  Not something I would try on a Ducati.

Yeaqh, but he must have been a pretty good rider.

The K1200S weighs nearly 230kg.

I've put about 120km on one, including some tight twisties, and you notice.

Ride possie seemed pretty sporty also.

Can't help but admire that front end tho.

K1200R is about 15kg lighter, a bit sharper in the steering, acc to specs. Haven't tried one.
