I have only bleed the brake system on my CRF and being it is a single caliper it was a snap.

I just swapped out the brakes on my SV and there are two calipers and I'm confused.  [roll]

Do I have to bleed both calipers at once or can I do them one at a time?  I've been working the one at a time and have not been able to get the suckers to full power.

Any suggestions, hints or directives?

Also, anyone within a 5 minute walk from my house have one of those brake vaccum thingies?

Thanks

I've only bled my front brake lines once but I don't remember doing both at the same time.

if there isn't a bleed valve, crack the banjo bolt. hold a paper towel over it, of course.

Just to add one little bit of info to Derby's how-to (only because I like instructions to be OBVIOUS) - after the master to the caliper with the shorter brake line first, then the one with the longer line.

I have never, ever, not once been able to bleed anything correctly, clutches or brakes.  I always end up taking it to the shop.

and yet you give advice on the topic. [cheeky]

So when you say "swapped out the brakes" did you replace the whole caliper or just swap pads? When I swapped my clutch slave it took me some 30 minutes of bleeding starting w/ an empty reservoir and no fluid in the slave. When I change pads it usually doesn't take more than 10 minutes.

I swapped out the whole frontend.  The SV has conventional forks and since I'm hardcore I had to have a GP Suspension fully built GSXR frontend on my bike. [moto]

This included the fancy radial mount calipers.

I have the brakes pretty well bleed at this point I just want to make sure I have my bases covered before I try to ride it to the local Starbucks!!!

Thanks for all the input and advice fellas.

Haha - that was my disclaimer and I was chuckling when I typed it  :D  Just because I can't do it doesn't mean I don't know HOW to do it  [laugh]

Good idea Greg.................. if your brakes failed you on the way to your Starbucks we'd have to pull you out of the ocean [laugh]

Let's go for a ride & test out that new front end.  I bet you could keep up with me now [cheeky]

Erik,

Thanks for the invite but all my rides must be on routes that are never more than 3 miles from a Starbucks.  I have an uncontrollable tendency to pose for no reason at all and Starbucks lends itself to posing.  I don't drink the coffee I just pose.

I believe the 33, from FHE takes riders miles away from Starbucks so. . .

Gus,

Since you stiffed me on the bike ride this morning I'll demand that a moto ride would require I be the "fast" guy.

I have one more weekend of out of control soccer/gymnastic games and I'm back!!!

I might try to make the turkey ride next Thursday.
