Crash Knobs, not cool?

Scanning the pics of members rides looking for bling ideas. Noticed a distinct lack of crash knobs. I had a set on my last ride was considering some for the duc. Is there a reason or do most people just simply not like 'em?

Had them on my 620 when i came off, they just flicked the bike over onto the other side
I guess its because they dont break off
they just catch a rut and do more damage whell thats my experiance

Me I simply don't like em.
But there was an argument that they could do more harm than good.
Being that they could put more stress on the frame in some impacts.
I think that on a fairing bike they make sense in saving valuable body work.

For, what would you call it, "Simple" drops, as in dropping it while at a stand still, yeah, they probably would be fine. But, if I had them when I went down, I'd say the frame and engine mounts would have been rooted.
I think they are more beneficial for bikes with fairings.

I have Oggy Knobs on my S4RT.... Never had to test them and hope I don't........
Do they work?
In a higher speed crash I recon that nothing will help. In a 0km/hr drop .. maybe?

"To Oggy or not to Oggy, that is the question."
Got them on my bike, but have seen things like the old crash bars and Oggies do some fairly extensive damage to frames and engine cases!! Depending on where and how they mount.
Mainly on the road where they can catch in ruts, potholes, rail or tram tracks (Vic) but not so much on race tracks where the most common incident is a drop and slide!!
You makes ya choices.

On a similar subject, always wondered about some of those bling clutch covers I see around, wouldn't reckon they'd do much to protect the clutch in the event of an off, what's the opinion out there?

general concensus seems to be they work well on a smooth racetrack but on the road they dig in to ruts and what not causing more damage than they protect against. besides, if you can ride you shouldn't need them

Especially with such a beautiful bike as what you've got.
But you can't teach stupid people in cages.

I have them on mine - Both Oggy knobs on the frame and also sliders on the front wheel and real wheel - I saw a 1098 that was an advertisment for them today - the front sliders were nicely worn on the left side but the Ohlins (1098s) and front mudguard were both in perfect nik! The mirror was scuffed and the rear sets were stuffed but generally all good - Guy riding it forgot how strong the front brakes were and dropped it at a roundabout.
Anyway, moral of my story -
1. Nothing will save your bike in a fast crash on the road and if you end up OK then all good! (that is what insurance is for)
2. On the track they will help in both slow and fast speed stacks (unless you flip the thing, which could be caused by Oggys)
3. They will assist in slow speed drops on the road by reducing the cost.
So there you go - One negative but a few positives and since I take mine on the track I have all the gear.
