Would you have preferred a Terblanche designed new Monster ??    [laugh]

Wouldn`t that have been called a Classic then ;D

Sure.  If it looked as good as the Hyper.

just did a little count, for us the monster 696 has been more successful out of the gate in sales than the Hyper.  From July of 2007 to current we have retailed 46 hypers, M696 since May of 2008 we have sold 32 696's.    I have no doubt we will sell more M1100's this year again over Hypers..  Don't get me wrong, we love the HYM, the Monster just appeals to more of a mainstream customer and will outsell the HYM hands down IMO.

Go with some hi-comp big bore pistons.

SteveG here has an M1k with 'em, light flywheel too.
It's an animal.  [thumbsup]

SO, what do you think makes the difference between the 3 motors?

this is more simple than you think

forget about the engine cases etc, that is going to have nothing to do with motor performance, all three motors are the same, but the big difference between the Hyper and Multi motors when compared to the new Monster motor is the cams and fuel air mapping and as someone else previously stated the Hyper and Multi suffer from small airboxs which will have an ill effect on overall power output.

If you were to bench mark these motors out of the bike the only difference would be the cams and obviously when you make a change to the cams you need to make appropriate changes to the fuel air mapping

figure the Hyper motor was lifted from the Multi which was designed as more of an adventure tourer so the likely-hood that the target rider would treat it like a sport bike and rev the crap out of was not so likely it made more sense to contour the power curve to low end torque, the Monster on the other hand is more of a Hooligans bike (as history dictates) I would say the Hyper is more of a hooligan bike now days but for the sake of the conversation lets say the Monster is a hooligan bike and designed to rev hence the higher power output at higher RPMs

I know, long winded but in short there is no difference between the motors themselves, just cams and ecu work, yeah the case covers are different but I think that is more for asthetics and cost savings (the new sand cast covers are most likely cheaper to make) not to mention they are prob lighter than than the Hypers magnesium ones.

I do know that the Hypers transmissions has the 1st couple gears case hardened, I honestly dont know if that is the same across the board for the other motors, I would assume so but who knows.

on the 695 vs 696 they worked the chambers a bit. wonder if they did the same type of work on the M1100

Here's another view...  Stock 2008 S2R1000 vs 2009 M1100S.    the 21 less lbs weight wouldn't hurt this performance either !
