no the 848 is a Superbike class. it's a 4v watercooled bike.

I think sbrguy was refferring to in racing classification...not product line classification...those 2 lines can be confusing at times...but there is a distinction...

yes i was referring more to the racing classification.

more so to try to see how ducati would fit this bike into compete with other brands.

they have their "liter bike" that is the 1098, they have "supersport" or "600-750CC" bike in the 848, standard bike=monster/streetfighter, motard=hypermotard, have their sport tourer=well it used to be the st model and in a way you could say the multistrada is sorta a sport tourer in a way...

i dont' see how an aircooled fully faired bike would fit into the equation, for the price that they would ask for basically a 848 with an aircooled engine, less power, more money (than a comparable 600-750cc sport bike), someone could easily get a better track specific bike by getting a watercooled supersport japanese bike.. basically they woul have this sorta hybrid of a bike, that would really be such a niche group, that i'm not sure it would even sell that great bc it would eat into sales of both the monster and the superbikes, but wouldnt' really take any of the consumers of the japanes bikes away.

that being said, if they did make the bike and it looked cool, i would buy it, it would be a great "cool looking" bike for both street and track.

When you can buy an off the shelf SV 650 that will wipe the floor with the 1100 2v you are losing the race before you begin.
How so?  Does the SV650 have better hp, torque or weight?  Does it have better suspension or brakes than the Monster 1100?

I think this is where and why I was suggesting after inspiration from someone else's extrapolation of what an SS should do or could do, that the SS could become their VFR of sorts. Redevelop the face of the bike to not confuse it as an 848/1098/1198 and put in a slightly larger bore air cooled mill (ie:1200cc) and have it put out in the 100-110hp range while not being a porky bike weighing in at anything more than 410. Do this and market it as a VFR type bike against the current VFR and the BMW R1200S with the capability to have a schemed package of panniers available for it and you are lined right up perfectly market segment wise and if someone chose, they could feasably run the bike in a race scenario against R1200S's  in MotoST or whatever classification that Nate Kern runs those things in...

I agree on the 696 engine model..
That would be awesome...
A light weight , pure and very affordable way to get a Ducati and stand great between the Daytona 675s or R6s.
8.000 or something and they would be back into business.
If they thing would also use less than 4 liter on 100km they could brand it "green"  [thumbsup]
